As lead partner in the AI Assurance Stakeholder Consortium, convened by government, BCS naturally supports this call, as we create a new profession, with a dedicated code of ethics. The report also recommends helping organisations identify trustworthy AI Assurance providers through appropriate accreditation, professional certification and public directories. Thanks to Emma McGuigan FBCS (pictured below chairing the first Consortium meeting this summer at BCS' London offices) and Adam Leon Smith DEng FBCS for contributing to the work. But checking things properly takes people who know what to check against, and standards to check against in the first place. Some of that groundwork already exists. ISO/IEC 42001 sets out how an organisation manages AI responsibly. ISO/IEC 42006 defines what a body needs to audit and certify against it, including competence and impartiality. ETSI EN 304 223 sets baseline security requirements across the AI lifecycle. AIQI Consortium, which we co-founded with UKAS, has developed free self-paced courses on all three, with input from accreditation bodies across several countries. When I say leading I mean through science, collaboration and consensus building, specifically. Events of the last few weeks are doing a lot to push countries together, particularly at a scientific level.Adam Leon Smith DEng FBCS ha compartido estoThank you to Tony Blair Institute for Global Change for hosting a great roundtable on the state of the AI assurance ecosystem, and discussion on AI and the future of philanthropy in the margins of the UN General Assembly in New York. And congratulations to Elizabeth Seger on the publication of TBI's accompanying report: AI-Assurance Ecosystems: Building the Infrastructure to Enable Confident Adoption of Safe AI Engaging in a roundtable with big tech, SMEs, government, national measurement institutes, and testing & evaluation bodies was exactly the type of conversation and collaboration we need to build robust AI assurance infrastructure globally. Key questions still remain, like how we focus efforts (the here & now issues, or the frontier threats?), where & how we coordinate, and how we use the existing building blocks to get there. The UK is doing a lot in this space, and I'd like to give a shout out to everyone supporting these important initiatives. We are developing robust measurement science through the Centre for AI Measurement at National Physical Laboratory (NPL), looking at the test & evaluation professionalisation routes through the AI Assurance Stakeholder Consortium led by BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, and engaging internationally on a holistic system view of AI assurance through the AIQI Consortium. NPL has a call for evidence out now, influencing future Centre for AI Measurement activities to help industry innovate AI assurance techniques. Have your say by the 30th of September. As a community, we have at least eight competing responses to who can verify a claim about an AI system, mostly without clarification of what either "verify" or "AI system" actually mean. Deployers and Providers who are relying on us to bring clarity are often left with more questions than answers. As we compete to prop up our own initiatives, our eagerness and confidence show real potential to do more harm than good. Today's article describes how our "answers" compare, and why the accredited infrastructure we already have is, in my opinion, the strongest foundation to build on. Adam Leon Smith DEng FBCS ha compartido estoFrontier AI is advancing quickly as we have seen in recent weeks - bringing enormous opportunities, but also risks that no country can manage alone. The challenge now is to turn efforts into practical cooperation that increases our collective preparedness and helps ensure AI develops safely. At the UN General Assembly this week, the Prime Minister set out how the UK intends to rise to that challenge. He announced that we will: • Put AI at the heart of the UK’s 2027 G20 Presidency, bringing countries together around both AI opportunity and frontier risks. • Work towards global AI principles and standards, focused on the transparency, access and preparedness needed for safe AI development. • Work with other welcome international initiatives on AI governance recently proposed • Develop a new UK–US AI defence partnership to help protect critical national infrastructure. • Establish a new National Centre for Information Defence, strengthening our ability to detect, attribute and disrupt hostile-state information attacks as AI multiplies the threat. • Build on the UK AI Security Institute and its international partnerships as part of the technical capability underpinning stronger AI security cooperation. The PM also made the case for the role the UK can play, and using our position across institutions and with partners to help bring countries together around practical solutions. There is a lot to do to translate that ambition into delivery. Our Minister, myself and colleagues across government will now be working to take this agenda forward.Adam Leon Smith DEng FBCS ha compartido estoLast week, the UK hosted the people building the world’s most powerful AI systems with a clear message: listen to the warnings, prepare for the risks, put people’s safety first. This week, Prime Minister Andy Burnham took that message to the world. Adam Leon Smith DEng FBCS ha recomendado estoAdam Leon Smith DEng FBCS ha recomendado esto🌟 Productive days working on the harmonized European Norms for the CRA at the #CENELEC TC 65X WG 03 meeting in #Oslo, where I had the honor to represent TÜV SÜD. Our focus is on resolving the comments received from the enquiry on prEN #IEC62443-4-1 and prEN IEC 62443-4-2 to make progress on the "broad vertical" standards, and turn them into harmonized European Norms that give manufacturers a clear path to meeting their obligations under the #CRA. Manufacturers need practical, recognized ways to demonstrate secure development processes and secure product capabilities that are aligned with well established international standards and the "broad verticals" are serving that need. Getting there takes experts from industry, testing, inspection and certification bodies, and national committees working through every comment together, line by line. A big thank you to Trond Salater and Judith Rossebø for hosting us at Norsk Elektroteknisk Komite - NEK in Oslo. The hospitality (and the view!) are making long days of detailed CRMs a pleasure. Shared facilities and common resources can help lower barriers to access, particularly for smaller organisations and innovators. By reducing duplication and making expertise more widely available, shared infrastructures can support both innovation and regulatory preparedness. They also contribute to greater consistency across Europe by helping stakeholders work from common foundations and approaches. Europe’s sectorial TEFs put this principle into practice by giving SMEs and other technology providers access to specialised physical and virtual testing capabilities that would often be difficult to develop independently. In recognition of the increasingly pervasive role of algorithmic decision making systems in corporate and government service, and growing public concerns regarding the black-box nature of many of these systems, the IEEE Standards Association (IEEE-SA) launched the IEEE Global Initiative on Ethics for Autonomous and Intelligence Systems in April 2016. The ‘Global Initiative’ aims to provide "an incubation space for new standards and solutions, certifications and codes of conduct, and consensus building for ethical implementation of intelligent technologies". As of early 2018 the two main pillars of the Global Initiative are:
• a public discussion document "Ethically Aligned Design: A vision for Prioritizing human Well-being with Autonomous and Intelligent Systems" [2], on establishing ethical and social
implementations for intelligent and autonomous systems and technology aligned with values and ethical principles that prioritize human well-being in a given cultural context;
- a set of thirteen working groups to create the IEEE P70xx series ethics standards, and associated certification programs, for Intelligent and Autonomous systems.
This project showcase will give the KDD community insights into the aims and working practices of the IEEE P70xx "Ethical Technology Standards" working groups, with an open invitation to join our efforts for establishing guiding frameworks to achieve Technology For Humanity.

I received my degree in Computer Engineering at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Barcelona, Spain in 2001.<br><br>In 2001, I started working on E2M SL, a manufacturer of equipment for quality control in production lines. I was leading the development of the software platform for quality control using computer vision.<br><br>In 2007, I moved to the CISTIB research group at Universitat Pompeu Fabra, focusing on the medical imaging applied to patient specific treatment. I was the software architect of GIMIAS framework, a software platform for fast development of clinical prototypes. <br><br>In 2013, I co-founded Galgo Medical SL. I worked as the Chief Technology Officer and software architect of the ADAS 3D product, a product for planning VT and AF ablation therapies using DICOM images.<br><br>In 2019, I moved to ADAS3D Medical SL as the Chief Technology Officer and continued developing the ADAS 3D product.
