Last Friday, StandICT.eu hosted a webinar exploring perspectives on the #standardisation of ICT and #digitaltechnologies. The discussion brought together experts from #Europe, #China and #SouthKorea to share findings from a multinational survey of ICT firms on the geopolitics of #standards. Here are 5 insights that stood out from the discussion: 1️⃣ #Standardisation is becoming a strategic corporate capability 💡 Leading ICT firms are increasingly treating standardisation as a core business function rather than a purely technical activity. 2️⃣ Resources can matter as much as technical excellence 💡 Several experts highlighted that success in #standards development is often influenced not only by technical quality, but also by the ability to dedicate people, time, and organisational effort to the process. 3️⃣ Government support remains a major differentiator 💡 The findings suggest that standardisation is closely linked to industrial policy, with some countries providing much stronger institutional and financial support than others. 4️⃣ Cooperation and competition are happening at the same time 💡 Even among firms that are concerned about China's growing influence, there is strong support for continued engagement and collaboration within international standards bodies. 5️⃣ The debate is increasingly about governance, not just technology 💡 As emerging economies play a larger role in shaping global standards, questions of participation, representation, and influence are becoming as important as the technical standards themselves. 🎥 The webinar recording is now available. ➡️ Watch now: https://lnkd.in/gbnEK8Eg
