Frequently asked questions

[edit]

How do I write an interesting hook?

Successful hooks tend to have several traits. Most importantly, they share a surprising or intriguing fact. They give readers enough context to understand the hook, but leave enough out to make them want to learn more. They are written for a general audience who has no prior knowledge of or interest in the topic area. Lastly, they are concise, and do not attempt to cover multiple facts or present information about the subject beyond what's needed to understand the hook.

When will my nomination be reviewed?

This page is often backlogged. As long as your submission is still on the page, it will stay there until an editor reviews it. Since editors are encouraged to review the oldest submissions first, it may take several weeks until your submission is reviewed. In the meantime, please consider reviewing another submission (not your own) to help reduce the backlog (see instructions below). Because of WP:DYKTIMEOUT, a nomination should be reviewed within two months since the reviewer/promoter may agree to reject and close an unpromoted hook after that time has passed.

Where is my hook?

If you can't find the nomination you submitted to this nominations page, it may have been approved and is on the approved nominations page waiting to be promoted. It could also have been added to one of the prep areas, promoted from prep to a queue, or is on the main page.

If the nominated hook is in none of those places, then the nomination has probably been rejected. Such a rejection usually only occurs if it was at least a couple of weeks old and had unresolved issues for which any discussion had gone stale. If you think your nomination was unfairly rejected, you can query this on the DYK discussion page or with the closer, but as a general rule such nominations will only be restored in exceptional circumstances. If your nomination was promoted, but it hasn't reached the main page after two weeks, you can also query this on the DYK discussion page.

Instructions for reviewers

[edit]

Any editor who was not involved in writing/expanding or nominating an article may review it by checking to see that the article meets all the DYK criteria (long enough, new enough, no serious editorial or content issues) and the hook is cited. Editors may also alter the suggested hook to improve it, suggest new hooks, or even lend a hand and make edits to the article to which the hook applies so that the hook is supported and accurate. For more information on the DYK rules and review processes, see the DYK guidelines and the reviewer instructions.

To post a comment or review on a DYK nomination, follow the steps outlined below:

• Look through this page, Template talk:Did you know, to find a nomination you would like to comment on.
• Click the "Review or comment" link at the top of the nomination. You will be taken to the nomination subpage.
• The top of the page includes a list of the DYK criteria. Check the article to ensure it meets all the relevant criteria.
• To indicate the result of the review (i.e., whether the nomination passes, fails, or needs some minor changes), leave a signed comment on the page. Please begin with one of the 5 review symbols that appear at the top of the edit screen, and then indicate all aspects of the article that you have reviewed; your comment should look something like the following:

Article length and age are fine, no copyvio or plagiarism concerns, reliable sources are used. But the hook needs to be shortened.

If you are the first person to comment on the nomination, there will be a line :* <!-- REPLACE THIS LINE TO WRITE FIRST COMMENT, KEEPING  :* --> showing you where you should put the comment.
• Save the page.
• After the nomination is approved, a bot will automatically list the nomination page on Template talk:Did you know/Approved.

If there is any problem or concern about a nomination, please consider notifying the nominator by placing on the nominator's talk page.

How to promote an accepted hook

• To Prep 2
• To Prep 3
• To Prep 4

• To Prep 7

How to remove a rejected nomination

[edit]
• Open the DYK nomination subpage of the nomination you would like to remove.
• In the window where the DYK nomination subpage is open, replace the line {{DYKsubpage with {{subst:DYKsubpage, and replace |passed= with |passed=no. Then save the page. This has the effect of wrapping up the discussion on the DYK nomination subpage in a blue archive box and stating that the nomination was unsuccessful, as well as adding the nomination to a category for archival purposes.
• Alternatively, you can use PSHAW, which automates the process.

How to remove a hook from the prep areas or queue

[edit]
• Edit the prep area or queue where the hook is and remove the hook and the credits associated with it.
• Go to the hook's nomination subpage (there should have been a link to it in the credits section).
• View the edit history for that page
• Go back to the last version before the edit where the hook was promoted, and revert to that version to make the nomination active again.
• Add a new icon on the nomination subpage to cancel the previous tick and leave a comment after it explaining that the hook was removed from the prep area or queue, and why, so that later reviewers are aware of this issue.
• Add a transclusion of the template back to this page so that reviewers can see it. It goes under the date that it was first created/expanded/listed as a GA. You may need to add back the day header for that date if it had been removed from this page.
• If you removed the hook from a queue, it is best to either replace it with another hook from one of the prep areas, or to leave a message at WT:DYK asking someone else to do so.

How to move a nomination subpage to a new name

[edit]
• Don't; it should not ever be necessary, and will break some links which will later need to be repaired. Even if you change the title of the article, you don't need to move the nomination page.

The maitenance tag on the article has been fixed and removed; I forgot to copyedit the article before publishing. I'll probably be doing some more copyediting work on it as I wait for the review. AGibberishUsername (talk) 02:08, 29 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for taking care of the maintenance tag. Reviewing now, the article was created recently enough and is evidently long enough. Sourcing is reliable, the article is neutral, and no copyvios were spotted based on Earwig. Hook verified, is short enough, and interesting. No images, no QPQ required. Well done on your first DYK! Beta Beta Beta - talk 00:26, 3 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
@AGibberishUsername and Beta Beta Beta: as I reviewed this for promotion, I noted that the source and article do not describe Stephen F. Austin College as either being a small college or having a small team. The "small team" doesn't actually make sense, as I assume the team fields the same number of players on the court at any given time. But if it's meant to describe Austin as a small college, that should be reflected in the source and the article. Dclemens1971 (talk) 17:19, 29 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Dclemens1971: Hello, apologies for the late response (I did not notice this message until a notice was posted on my talk page). The "small college" phrasing is used by CBS Sports in its article on the game, and is most likely where I got the phrase from, rather than ESPN. I could probably tweak "small team" in the hook to "small college". CBS Sports article on the Stephen F. Austin game Again, apologies for responding so late. • This is a comment rather than a review. Most of our readers know very little about cricket, and to them, phrases such as "a 94-run stand" and "highest 7th-wicket partnership in LPL history" are virtually unintelligible. If this were a hook about American football, it would be rejected for sure on grounds that it does not appeal to a sufficiently broad audience. Is there another phrasing or, better, a new hook that would be more understandable/appealing to a general audience? Cbl62 (talk) 01:44, 18 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Launchballer: there is also Bree Fram, but I started that article back in 2024 but her retirement ceremony was in 2026.. I'm not sure if there's a time period limitation for DYK. Thank you for nominating these articles, it means a lot! I am working on more as I come across media/news articles on them. But these above the only so far that I have written that were discharged during Trump's trans military ban. -- Willthacheerleader18 (talk) 16:56, 12 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Willthacheerleader18: Actually there is: WP:DYKNEW has a one-week period; there's a grace period for a few days, but two years is far too long. The most realistic route would be to nominate her for GA, but it takes time and I think we can run the hook without Fram's name. Please let us know when you're done with all of them. ミラP@Miraclepine 18:32, 12 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

General: Article is new enough and long enough

Policy compliance:

• Adequate sourcing: No - *
• In Vandal, "came out as a trans woman in 2019" = attached ref implies it didn't happen until 2021.
Fixed.--Launchballer 14:36, 22 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
• In Corcoran, "in North Attleborough, Massachusetts" is not supported by attached refs, and ref 2 only says they lived "outside of Boston in the 1990s".
Fixed.--Launchballer 14:36, 22 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
• Krizek: page says "almost twenty years" and "a week later", but attached refs say "20-year" and "couple weeks later".
Fixed.--Launchballer 14:36, 22 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
• "[Ireland] is of Irish and Scottish descent" should be sourced to ref 1, not 2. Both filmographies (in Vandal and Ireland) should be sourced.
I've added refs, although I'm fairly sure the films act as their own primary sources.--Launchballer 14:36, 22 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Parasites! Removed.--Launchballer 14:36, 22 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
• And given the three Sun Chronicle sources in Corcoran are pre-transition, what's the rule for attaching sources to a BLP based on deadnames; can we connect them with ABOUTSELF-compliant sources that aren't in the article?
We need a source linking the two. I've removed them.--Launchballer 14:36, 22 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
• Neutral: Yes
• Free of copyright violations, plagiarism, and close paraphrasing: No - Fixed numerous cpara, but there are a few I couldn't fix without introducing/removing new facts too much:
• Vandal: "After serving in Afghanistan, Vandal served on crisis response teams in South Korea and supported NATO allies in Romania." = "I’ve also supported NATO allies in Romania and served on crisis response teams in South Korea.";
• Krizek: "manned and unmanned platforms in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation New Dawn[disambiguation needed], and Operation Enduring Freedom" = "manned and unmanned platforms in support of Operations IRAQI FREEDOM, NEW DAWN, and ENDURING FREEDOM";
• Ireland: "Afghanistan, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and South Korea in support of Operation Odyssey Dawn, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation Freedom's Sentinel" = "Afghanistan, Qatar, South Korea, and the United Arab Emirates in support of Operation Odyssey Dawn, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation Freedom’s Sentinel".
• Other problems: No - In Krizek, New Dawn needs a dab fix. Given the cpara I had to fix, might be inclined to summarize that sentence differently instead.
I removed New Dawn as it wasn't clear from context which one it was. I believe the rest come under WP:LIMITED.--Launchballer 14:36, 22 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Image is PD as a US Air Force creation. One source in Bruce is WP:NEWSWEEK, but it's written by her so fine for ABOUTSELF. Bruce also has one cn tag. I don't think the Trump mention is a DYKBLP problem given transphobia is prominent enough to be on the Trump lede (on top of his bigotry being an essential part of numerous subsections); after all we once ran a hook on the Elon Musk salute.

@Miraclepine: Apologies for carving up your post to reply, but I think I've addressed everything. General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems

Hook eligibility:

• Cited: Yes
• Interesting: Yes
• Other problems: No - Your hook is not in the expected format (the target article should be linked and bolded), and I'd say it lacks a bit in detail. Might I suggest "...that a 2014 peaceful anti-austerity protest in Belgium ended with multiple cars being set on fire?"
QPQ: None required.

Overall: Thank you for writing this article, and what I assume is your DYK debut? This nomination is mostly in the green, as the article is new enough, long enough and scores very low on copyvio. The only issue is the hook itself, which should be "hookified" as I suggested. Be sure to consult WP:DYKFORMAT. I would ideally have liked to see you cite sources that detail the material damage from the protests in full text, but those news website image galleries with description should be good enough. (P.S another contributor bolded and linked the original hook while I was writing this review. My proposal for slight rewording still stands). Procrastineur (talk) 21:13, 11 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Also, I have problems with the wording too. If it ended with several cars being set on fire, then by definition it was not peaceful. I think the hook should clarify what I think was meant: that it was the intentions of the organizers that the protest be peaceful. Daniel Case (talk) 04:10, 14 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

• Comment The hook fact is not in the article at all, as we speak; and, even if it were, the wild claim about the pandemic and xenophobia would still need to be attributed, and preferably not used as the hook fact -- it is a very contentious opinion. For it to be in the article, it would also need to be from a source that specifically mentions this opinion in relation to that book by that author, not "in general" (WP:SYNTH). Also: the book by Kim, with the vague mention of "book data", cannot be a source for this factoid, even if Kim had made mention of it there. Dahn (talk) 03:25, 16 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
• Unsurprising, a new QPQ is needed. You have already used this QPQ at Template:Did you know nominations/Ever Again and cannot re-use it. Without a new QPQ, this nomination will be marked for closure. Dclemens1971 (talk) 20:32, 18 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
• Full review needed. Dclemens1971 (talk) 21:35, 19 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
• I'm coming back to this as a reviewer. From what I gather, the article seems to have been moved to mainspace on 16 Nov, which allows it to qualify. I am hesitating between arguing that it needs more work or that it needs to be completely redone (as in: it needs much more work before it can be featured on mainpage). A note on why that is: much of it is written like a blurb of sorts; we are told that X and Y reviewed her work (a common descriptor for when academics try to suggest that their work is not ignored), when the only reason to even mention those reviews would be to have details on what they say about Kim. Then we have a long list of prizes, which frankly looks like "let's all read Kim's work, it won stuff"-type content. Not good. The same goes for the phrasing of the hook. (Think of it: why would we mention that a monograph is "award-winning"? it unwittingly demeans the author by suggesting she needs that sort of blurb to prop her up; would you describe Mark Twain or Max Weber as "award-winning"?). But the most serious aspect, still unaddressed despite it being waved off above: the hook is a glaring WP:SYNTH. That's because Covid and its supposed spike in anti-Asian sentiment are nowhere mentioned in the article, and they probably shouldn't be, until we get a third-party source, cited verbatim in the article, making that explicit connection between (1) Kim's book, (2) Covid, (3) anti-Asian sentiment during Covid. (Also, let me remind you: the rise of anti-Asian sentiment during Covid is itself a factoid rather than a fact, meaning that we are under no legal requirement to believe the rise of reports about these incidents is in any way a significant rise in overall sentiment against X and Y ethnicities -- some authors believe this to be true, others question it; this is why the article that';s being linked has a vague title and very short paragraphs about very specific incidents, rather than the mass hysteria that's being depicted here. So any such claim linking Kim's book and the other two things would have to also be attributed to the person making the claim, not squeezed in as an editorial comment by wikipedia, or like a generally known, demonstrable, undebatable fact.) The hook is a no-go in this form, and I frankly struggle to find anything that would make a good hook in this article -- the issue would be solved if the author, or anyone interested, would go through sources and actually pick from them info other than "she's great and she won awards" (her new and relevant ideas, the debates she sparked with her research etc.). Finally, this also brings up the issue of formatting: the article is a mess, with the one-line paragraphs and the unnecessary subheadings. Dahn (talk) 05:57, 27 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
• @Unsurprising: I have struck the original hook per Dahn's review. Please propose a new hook. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 10:22, 8 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Ref 2 just says he was a Melbourne racehorse. Ref 7 says 6 2nd and 6 3rds, and "out of 37 starts" not supported by ref 6. Ref 11 should be updated to £120,059. A few cn tags. Don't need the "Some of his political cartoons are reproduced below to the right" part since it's redundant to the captions.

Hook eligibility:

• Cited: No - Anything cited to an offline source needs to have a quote per WP:DYKCITE; though MacQuarie verifies ALT9a.
• Interesting: Yes
Image: Image is freely licensed, used in the article, and clear at 100px.
QPQ: Done.

Overall: Moved to mainspace on nom day, length 2705 B. Image is PD in the US due to being published in 1925. The pop culture references are cited to the encyclopedia entry on Drongo and pass the WP:BANANASINWORMS test, though the Fox poem should be trimmed to the first stanza or even removed outright due to copyright concerns.

Don't think ALT6/7 meet DYKINT; ALT0 doesn't have "loser" supported in the article; ALT1-4 are too wordy. The "drongo slang term" hooks are the most DYKINT but I'm proposing a more DYKINT-compliant ALT9 (the "well-performing racehorse" part should be verified by the sourcing confirming all his second and third places, we still need the quote to verify the "no-hoper" part):

@Unsurprising, Sauriazoicillus, and Launchballer: address the issues and you're good to go. (NGL if I had a nickel for every time I did a DYK about a successful loser racehorse, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird it happened twice.) ミラP@Miraclepine 22:27, 28 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

• I have fixed the issue with ref 2 by removing it entirely (can't remember why exactly I included it there TBH)
• I reworded the section regarding his uncertain racing record by stating that '37 starts' was a number used by later reports rather than the contemporary news report (ref 6)
• Removed the redundant statement regarding Wells' comics
• Didn't even consider that the Len Fox poem would have copyright concerns despite being fully reproduced in the book! Removed that as well
• I also realised I had gotten the timeline mixed up regarding Wells' cartoons and swapped the sections around to better reflect the timeline of events
I do have some questions and uncertainties however:
• I'm a little unsure regarding the statement made about refs 6 and 7 as ref 7 states "five seconds placings and seven thirds" rather than '6 2nd and 6 3rds' and so should not contradict ref 6, have I missed something? Apologies if so!
• This is, admittedly, my first time creating an article outside of the scope of WP:PAL, so I'm not as familiar with where to find sources for things like racing records, the only place I could find any racing records that mention Drongo were The Australasian Turf Registry books, do you have any pointers?
• The cn tag on the statement that "Drongo was inbred 3 × 3 to St. Simon" feels a little redundant since the pedigree is cited and shows that St. Simon appears twice, other articles that feature inbred horses also do the same thing (whether the pedigree is cited or not).
(also that's a very fun fact, two very good nickels and hilarious since Haru Urara is one of my favourite Uma Musume characters and probably why I latched on to Drongo). Sauriazoicillus (talk) 12:54, 29 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Sauriazoicillus: You can keep ref 2, it says he was based in Melbourne; "who was bred in Melbourne, Australia by an unknown breeder" is not supported by the ref; and Dorothy Wood and "clumsy" is unsourced (almost forgot them).
The Sporting Globe ref says "He ran in 37 events for six seconds, six thirds, several fourths and a fifth hi the Sydney Cup", while Victoria Racing Club says "Drongo finished second five times, with seven thirds" and the Daily Telegraph ref says "five seconds placings and seven thirds". That discrepancy should be addressed.
The Australasian Turf Registry should be reliable for racing records and should help with the issue with the "racing record" section, though I'd recommend trimming columns on unsupported claims.
WP:DYKCITE says All content that could reasonably be challenged, except for plot summaries and that which summarizes cited content elsewhere in the article, must be cited to a reliable source no later than the end of the paragraph (or line if the content is not in prose)., I'd suggest adding the source to the cn tag. The other cn tag is not addressed yet; I'd suggest removing that claim since I'm used to several GAs handling the issue without stating the absence of a death date (cf. Hugh Daily).
Also, if you have access to the Australian Folklore book, you can use these to add the hook quotes; they haven't been added yet. I've struck out the rejected hooks (and fixed the formatting for ALT9(a)) for convenience. ミラP@Miraclepine 17:29, 29 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Miraclepine: Noted, I'll add back ref 2, remove the section regarding an unknown breeder, and remove the statement about there being no recorded death date. I also have citations for Dorothy Wood being his owner in the ref list so I can just add that to the infobox.
The "clumsy" claim comes from the Australian Folklore book, would the issue with that be resolved if I added it to the in-article section next to "slow-witted"?
For the racing record section, would you recommend changing the section to surround the varying reports of his career (something like "Both contemporary and recent new articles report various numbers of first and second placements, refs here and recent news articles have claimed he had 37 starts.refs here However, The Australasian Turf Registry records only 29 races throughout Drongo's careerrefs here) or just removing the comment about the discrepancies entirely and let the racing record section be self explanatory?
And final thing; I'm very new to DYK nominations and so am very unsure how this all works past the review side, what do you mean by "...if you have access to the Australian Folklore book, you can use these to add the hook quotes" do you mean quoting sections of Drongo's entry from the book? Thanks for your patience! Sauriazoicillus (talk) 18:46, 29 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Sauriazoicillus: About the racing record, I'd recommend a footnote about the discrepancies on the amounts of races, with each race saying Drongo raced being reference to the The Australasian Turf Registry.
WP:DYKCITE says For sources which are not readily available to the reviewer because they are off-line or behind a paywall, the nominator must provide a copy for review. This could be done by posting ... a direct quotation from the source.
In the meantime, please ping me when the issues are addressed. ミラP@Miraclepine 21:06, 29 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

TarnishedPath and @Launchballer: Thanks for bringing me back here! The four non-slashed hooks need adequate sourcing. The sources are referenced but inaccessible without subscription. If needed, we can find additional sources, both free and paid. We can use The Wikipedia Library if needed, which I recently gained access to. At the time of this discussion and the last reply, I did not have access to it.

Sorry for dodging this discussion until lately! Not surprising 📝 👥 14:31, 22 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Unsurprising:, neither WP:V nor any of the DYK guidelines require that a source be able to be accessed without subscription. It's quite adequate that quotes from the sources be provided here so that reviewers can confirm that the material in the article and the hooks are supported. TarnishedPathtalk 22:47, 22 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
@TarnishedPath: Apologies for the absence, I've been meaning to implement these updates but it's currently exam season for me so that's taking priority. I mentioned this earlier but I'm very new to DYK nominations; is there a time-limit for all this? I'm very sorry if there is and I didn't get the memo. @Sauriazoicillus: WP:DYKTIMEOUT is two months. That's not imminent; however, I noted that there had been no activity in a while and thought it best to prod. TarnishedPathtalk 22:49, 22 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
@TarnishedPath: Thank you for informing me! I'll make sure to get it done before then. Sauriazoicillus (talk) 04:56, 23 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Miraclepine: Apologies for the wait. I've implemented the other changes but I couldn't for the life of me figure out a good legible way to word the footnote do you have any pointers of how I could format it? Sauriazoicillus (talk) 21:50, 3 November 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Sauriazoicillus: Add a ref column in the racing record table and make sure each row has <ref name="TATR1924"> in that column.
Regarding ALT8/9(a), the quote I found in GB (page 200) is "Drongo was also the name of a racehorse, foaled in 1921, which usually performed poorly, although it was placed a number of times. It was retired in 1925. Thereafter, anyone slow-witted or clumsy was referred to as a 'drongo' ... The word became nationally used, as a reference to 'no-hopers', in the period of World War II." Should be enough for DYKCITE.
Only other issue left: "various numbers of first and second placements" -> "various numbers of second and third placements" (he never won a single race).
Also, please make sure all your comments are above the commented-out line. ミラP@Miraclepine 22:05, 3 November 2026 (UTC)Reply

• The article was created in mainspace on 17 September 2026 and renominated on 20 September 2026, so new and long enough at 4,071 words. QPQ is not required. Earwig's match is a research paper title, and a spot check found no copyright concerns. I can read German and have checked the relevant bavarikon text against the hook and article.
Three points remain: (1) The original hook is a reasonable reflection of bavarikon, although "still wearing" is not explicit. A more source-faithful ALT0a would be: ... that the knee-high leather boots buried with the Woman of Peiting survived some six centuries in a bog? This is optional. (2) The hook is not explicitly supported in the article's body. Could you make this clearer to readers by perhaps replacing the opening sentence of the Boots section with something like: "The Woman of Peiting was buried wearing knee-high leather boots, probably in the 14th century. They were remarkably well preserved when her remains were discovered in 1957." (citing bavarikon) (3) Reference [2] returns a 404. Could you provide a working or archived link?

• Thank you for the careful review. I’ve revised the opening of the Boots section to state explicitly that the Woman of Peiting was buried wearing knee-high leather boots and that they were well preserved when the coffin was discovered in 1957. I’ve also replaced the broken link in reference [2] with an author-uploaded copy of the paper and corrected the citation’s author names. I’m happy with your suggested ALT0a wording, which avoids implying that "still wearing" is explicit in the source. Thanks again for checking the German text. • Full review:
• New/long: moved from draft to mainspace on 23 September and nominated on 25 September. Readable prose is 1,556 characters, just over the minimum.
• Copyvio: No concerns (9.9%).
• Sourcing: mostly fine, since the Overview is largely a summary of the book. Two things I'd ask for: "buying guns to kill as many Israelis as he could" is a strong claim about a living person, and Jewish Currents only says he bought guns for revenge, so please source the stronger wording or soften it. And whichever hook we use, its sentence needs its own reliable citation: Jewish Currents for the prison claim (ALT0), and NPR rather than APB Speakers for "The Green Prince" (ALT1).
• Neutrality: fine.
• Hooks: both are fine with small fixes. ALT0: "choose" should be "chose"; the fact is supported by Jewish Currents, though NPR (the source given) only mentions the double-agent motive. ALT1: "The Green Prince" was a Shin Bet codename, so "codenamed" rather than "nicknamed"; NPR supports it. I'm happy with either once the article sentences are cited as above; ALT1 is my slight preference.
• QPQ: not required. Image: none.

Comment: I would respectfully disagree with Surtsicna on this. I think it is interesting that it happened twice, and that Confederate soldiers would do that. While the pro-slavery ideology they were fighting for is evil, it is not at all obvious that pro-slavery implies ok with stealing. Ashorocetus (talk | contribs) 01:20, 3 November 2026 (UTC)Reply

The article was recently promoted to GA status by LastJabberwocky, but I have to say that it does not quite look like a GA to me. It may be the small sections and tiny subsections that are giving me the impression of insufficient coverage. Are you both certain that the article sufficiently covers the main aspects of the topic? Another concern is that the hook is not particularly interesting. I guess it hinges on knowing that it is unusual to become a rabbi at 18, but do not think that we can expect that from "a reader with no special knowledge". Policy compliance:

Hook eligibility:

• Cited: Yes
• Interesting: Yes
• Other problems: No - All three hooks are reliant on superlatives (i.e. claims of "firsts") and the sources do not appear to discuss the set in detail, as is outlined in the DYK guidelines. These hooks will either require more support to verify their accuracy, or an alternative hook without a superlative will be necessary.

Image eligibility:

QPQ: Done.

Overall: Article was created on 29 September 2026 as is roughly 1,000 words in length. The article is neutral and apparently free from plagiarism, but one of its paragraphs is missing a citation. The hooks are cited and interesting, however, all of them are reliant on superlatives. The picture is free and clear, but not used in the article. QPQ is done. This nomination will either need a new hook, without superlatives, or additional sourcing for the superlative hooks; the picture will also need to be added to the article and a citation added to the unsourced paragraph. Grnrchst (talk) 15:17, 23 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

• @Grnrchst: Appreciate the review, and sorry for delay in responding! I've removed the photo from DYK hook (and from article, as likely derivative of non-free) and added a reference to the Cambridge paragraph. As for the superlatives, her role as the first woman in Spain to receive a doctorate in physics and first woman to become a meteorologist for the state etc. are attested by the Basque Auñamendi Encyclopedia , a Canalda biography, and (likely subsequent) articles by Nat Geo and the Bilbao Museum. Are these sufficient for DYK? Otherwise unsure of suitable hooks, but happy to brainstorm further if needed. RabidTuberculosis (talk) 21:57, 27 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Policy compliance:

Hook eligibility:

• Cited: No - For ALT1, not at the sentence where the claim is made. The source does not support the claim that this is one of the steepest grades in the Interstate Highway System.
• Interesting: No - ALT0 I find unlikely to be interesting to those who are unfamiliar with this highway (and I've driven on this stretch multiple times). ALT1 is interesting.
• Other problems: No - As noted above, CrashForensics.com appears to be self-published.

QPQ: No - I know Epicgenius's DYK noms are almost always clean, but a simple checkmark does not demonstrate that all the DYK criteria were checked.
Overall: Bneu2013, a few things to address here. Dclemens1971 (talk) 23:50, 9 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Has Crash Forensics been determined to be unreliable? Considering that they're an expert on the subject matter, I don't why why they wouldn't be. I'll see if I can find another source that explicitly states it's one of the steepest stretches of the Interstate system, even though I lean towards the first hook. I also disagree that ALT0 isn't interesting, as it is extremely rare for any road to dip into another state and then re-emerge in the original one. I-24 is the only Interstate in three or more states that does it. I think providing context that it's in a mountainous area makes it more interesting. This isn't the same as saying something vague like "I-24 goes through four states" or even "the majority of I-24 is in Tennessee."

Also, I didn't just assume the QPQ was adequate because of the nominator; I checked all the hooks to make sure they were cited properly, and used DYKcheck to make sure the other criteria were met. I don't know how to prove this, but I did. Bneu2013 (talk) 03:36, 10 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Bneu2013, I think an alternative angle on ALT1 that's not a simple recitation of a fact would be something that emphasizes the thing you noted above about it being rare. In that case, though, you'd need a source to indicate that, not the Gazetteer. For ALT2, we still need an alternate source that actually back up the claim (CrashForensics.com doesn't). As far as I can tell, the only source that John Glennon is an expert on crashes is... John Glennon himself. We would need to see independent secondary coverage establishing Glennon as a trusted expert on the subject for his website to be used as a reliable source per WP:SPSEXPERT. Finally, you may have reviewed every DYK criteria on your QPQ, but your review doesn't say that. It can be as simple as saying "All DYK criteria are met", but WP:DYKRI is clear that the review must show that all the criteria are met. As for the hooks, if you prefer not to come up with alternatives, let me know and I'll mark this for a fresh review. Dclemens1971 (talk) 22:37, 12 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
No response from nominator to above question. I don't think this passes muster, but I'll give a chance for a fresh review if someone else disagrees and wants to move this along. Dclemens1971 (talk) 15:27, 22 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Citations don’t support the previews and opening night, are you able to find an additional source for it? If not, it could easily be shorted down to the say it had a limited run from the 22 September–11 October.

I’d be good to get a citation for this and clarify it if possible? It’s not clear if they both play the same role, if there are two writer characters, or if it’s because Sherman wrote the play.

• First, the current hook is a little clunky to read. I would be happy with "... that in 1987, a wave of strikes in South Korea saw the participation of around 1.23 million people?". Second, the Korean language source in the article says nearly 1.22 million, the English language source says 1.23 million and the article itself says 1.22 million. Third, while the facts are not currently in the article, I would prefer a hook that uses the scale of the strikes rather than using absolute numbers, as I think that would be more interesting. The Korean language source says that the strikes involved more than 75 percent of workers from firms with more than 1,000 workers. No need to do that though if you don't want to. No other issues, QPQ good and spot check looked good to me. ~ F4U (talk • they/it) 17:50, 21 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

• @Tbhotch: New enough (Oct 1), long enough (2900 B), well-sourced, no copyvio. However, subjectively, there are some issues with readability that I think should be addressed. In particular, some statements are made before explaining the context, such as in power when the sculpture was toppled and damaged. The lead is also too short; it contains statements not in the body, while excluding the important points. I also think there are some very minor issues with source-text integrity; the article implies that politicians of the Fourth Transformation have accused Calderón of electoral fraud, but the source doesn't make the connection.
As for the hook, it is interesting enough and is verified in the source. The hook will be good to run once these issues are addressed; the issues are fairly minor. — Vigilant Cosmic Penguin 🐧 (talk | contribs) 06:53, 29 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia is not a reliable source. That table uses Template:ayd for convenience in approximating the calculation, but age is not what we’re measuring when we measure tenure. It’s true that on Friday, her tenure was 4 days old, but it’s not true that going to work on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday means you worked 4 days. If you go to work on MTWThF, you have worked 5 days. The extraordinary claim that MTWThF equals 4 days requires a cite to a reliable source. Mikewem (talk) 13:52, 17 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
I agree, Monday to Friday is five full days, so that means she worked five days. Zacharia was fired four days after she was hired, so I can see why it was worded that way, but yeah, ALT0 as currently worded is factually incorrect. I'll propose ALT0a: ... that in October 2026 Katie Zacharia (pictured) became the shortest-serving White House Press Secretary in US history, with only a five-day tenure? As far as I know, a template doesn’t exist that calculates a total number of encompassed calendar days. The issue is that a newborn is 0 days old on the first calendar day of their life. But we don’t measure how many days old someone’s job is, we measure how many calendar days they have attended. If you’re born on Monday, you’re 0 days old on Monday, and 1 day old on Tuesday. But if you start your job on Monday, then for purposes of payroll, you have attended work for 1 day as of Monday, and on Tuesday, you have attended work for 2 days.
This is presumably a project-wide issue that affects every single calculation involving duration-of-time-spent-doing-X. I think it’s fine to link to the list article, with the understanding that Wikipedia is not a reliable source. Mikewem (talk) 22:41, 17 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

• Hey, first time DYK reviewer. Topic seems interesting to me, so I'll bite. Hopefully I'll finish by the 27th. Thanks, PantheonRadiance (talk) 22:00, 25 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
• @PantheonRadiance: Thanks. Unfortunately, I nominated this too early by accident, so if you could put it on hold for a bit, that would be great. I had intended to nominate by November, and the date slipped my mind. We are not supposed to nominate this far out. This is for a Black History Month set, which depending on if we run it or not, is for January or February, so way too early. Also, I'm probably going to need a new hook or set of hooks to choose from, as DYK doesn't like hooks like this one ("There are Black People in the Future" is the name of a famous artwork in the show) for several different reasons. So if you are willing to work with me, that would be great, but it can't be promoted to anything other than a special occasion holding area (SOHA), likely for January or February. Apologies for the mass confusion! With that said, there is no reason you can't do a review when you are ready. Viriditas (talk) 22:31, 25 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Viriditas: Sure, that seems reasonable, but of course with approval from other DYK experts/admins. I recently nominated a DYK, and I planned to review this to fulfill QPQ. I'm okay with waiting, but I wonder if I would need to choose another DYK, or if I can still review yours when it's ready, albeit with my DYK potentially being postponed (which I'm fine with).
Admittedly, I also had initial concerns about the hook as well. Though interesting IMO, it seemed like something more fitting for Afrofuturism itself. After reading the page and finding out it's named for the artwork, I figured you would want to use it. But if you want (or need) to add another hook, feel free. If I could offer any suggestions, perhaps anything regarding the AI debate, which is what really hooked me into reviewing. But the choice is yours, so long as it meets the criteria. PantheonRadiance (talk) 23:00, 25 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
@PantheonRadiance: Yes, you can review it now and suggest better hooks! But we want to avoid a promoter accidentally adding it to the wrong queue (Black History Month SOHA only), which was my concern. As for a new hook, I want to pay homage to the past, present, and future as envisioned by Afrofuturists, but not sure how to word it. Very much along the lines of The Sugar Shack scene in Sinners ("Unbeknownst to Sammie, his music summons spirits of performers from the past and future") That's what this exhibition is also doing. PantheonRadiance Review
@Viriditas: I'll refrain from judging the hook for now, since I assume you indicated you want another one. As for the article:
• Quite a few primary sources, but much of them are appropriately used IMO.
• Earwig detects 56.6%, but most of them are attributed quotes. I assume good faith that WP:LIMITED applies.
• Minor POV and verifiability concerns, such as in note e: "example of rage bait…" While it may be true, I didn't see any sources describing the video that way, though SF Chronicle pointed out its inaccuracy. Note b and d each don't contain a source, and note c seems WP:SYNTHy? DuBois' story may have inspired the piece, but neither ref 12 nor 7 directly state so. If you could find extra sources, that'd be great. If not, please consider revising. Also, the 3rd paragraph in Reactions needs a citation. Here's some links that should be included in the refs, like Gaskins' Medium post and this KPIX video.
• While I appreciate the added context, and think the Afrofuturism background is pertinent, some parts seem a bit off topic. For example, the 4th paragraph in Reactions ("Gaskins, who is trained… Liberatory Design' (2022)."). This seems more appropriate in Gaskins' own article, especially since some of these sources don't explicitly mention the exhibit. More to the point, quite a few sources in general predate the exhibit's opening, and presumably don't mention it. I think the context should be kept, but truncated to only include info of her background that's from sources about the exhibit (like SFC and SFS).
I think this page has promise as much of these issues are fixable, but another hook may be needed. I would benefit from a second opinion, but I'll mark as Thanks, PantheonRadiance (talk) 23:55, 26 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
@PantheonRadiance: Thanks for taking a look. Would you be open to changing the article to the way you think it should look so that I can understand your recommended changes? If for whatever reason you don't want to change the version in mainspace (which you are welcome to edit), feel free to leave a copy of your suggested changes over at User:Viriditas/sandbox28, where I copied a dupe for you to edit. Thanks. Viriditas (talk) 00:08, 27 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Viriditas: Sure, I can revise a little, but I'm a bit pressed for time because I'm in the process of writing another article that I wish to publish this week. Also if you're still hook-looking, I think the mOTHERboard piece may make for an interesting ALT1. Thanks, PantheonRadiance (talk) 00:59, 27 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Viriditas: Added some revision ideas, feel free to further revise. I like how you moved Gaskins' background to the Curator section. For that paragraph, I appended some secondary sources to Gaskins and the artists' info where applicable, like the Roborant piece and SFC, and added comments in the notes (mostly a) to mark info that seems in or out of scope. Besides that, I think if these changes are implemented, the article would be nearly there; it just needs a citation for the Reaction paragraph (if it can be found). I'll check back tomorrow as I'm a bit behind in work for another article, but did you also come up with a new hook yet? PantheonRadiance (talk) 00:30, 29 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

• Passed GA review on October 10, 2026 and was nominated the same day. No policy issues such as copyright problems found. Well written article to fine sources. Unfortunately the hook fact isn't usable. The source making the equivalency in money to "today" was published in 2012. Currency valuation has altered significantly in the last 14 years, so while true at the time of publication in 2012, it is no longer true in 2026 due to inflation. The article text needs to be changed to reflect that the £17 million evaluation was to 2012 monetary value (and not "today"), and the hook needs to be modified as well in order to be approved. An alternative hook with a different fact proposed might be wise as well. Ping me when ready for review of a different hook(s), and once the factual error has been changed in the article. Best.4meter4 (talk) 16:46, 13 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
@4meter4: Thanks for the rewiew. The quote was to support the original amount (£ 140,000). I used the inflation calculator to get the 2025 value, but just placed the result. I have now added the {inflation} template to get the 2025 value. It does not accept 2026 and I think it looks pedantic to specify it in the Lead or the DYK call. Also, inflation calculations to the 1850s have a margin or error. Hope this helps.
The article has a monthly readership >30,000 and I think Turner is a painter with such a rich body of work (as well as a very colourful palette AND life) and had an impact on Impressinist painters and even American Abstract painters in since the 1940s, that he deserves even more awareness.

@Jp1008: I understand your frustration over the stickler to accuracy, but we simply cannot make a "today claim" with this type of sourcing. This is the type of factual error that routinely gets reported at WP:ERRORS, and then would result in the article being pulled off the main page. I'm not being pedantic to be a stick in the mud, but to make you aware of the type of scrutiny hooks undergo when they run on the main page. This would get flagged rapidly as an error, and we simply can't publish hooks that don't exactly match what the source is saying. You can date it to 2025 evaluation in the hook, but we would need something dating it to the day it runs to say "today". See WP:DYKHOOKCITE The hook should include a fact that is unlikely to change prior to or during its run on the Main Page. There has been global inflation in the last year, and this is not a stable claim. The hook as proposed is not going to be approved.4meter4 (talk) 20:05, 13 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
@4meter4: I perfectly undertand. You don't make the rules and I don't know them as this is my first DYK submission. I don't remember the original phrasing. If I can just make it here rather than resubmit (I will if needed), it can be
alt 0a ... that the 19th century English painter J. M. W. Turner, the son of a barber, died a rich man with the 2025 equivalent of £17 million?
@Jp1008: Just to clarify, you do not need to submit new hook ideas in a different thread. You propose new hook alternatives in the same thread with bolded "alt1", "alt2", etc. Minor alterations to a hook would be "alt1a", "alt1b", etc. Since this was a modification of the original hook (known at DYK as al0) this hook is "alt0a".
I still cannot approve this hook because it is not yet compliant with WP:DYKCITE/ WP:DYKHOOKCITE. In order to approve the hook I need an inline citation directly after the hook fact which verifies the sentence His investments and properties were valued £140,000 (equivalent to £16.9 million in 2025). The problem is that Brown, a 2012 publication, cannot verify a 2025 claim. I understand you used a calculating tool, which is fine, but you will in fact have to cite the calculating tool with the math outcome visible in the citation directly after this sentence, and leave an explanatory note (ie Template:Efn) as to how that was arrived at from Brown in order to pass DYK review. I also note that the article itself never states he was a rich man when he died. I know this is somewhat inferable from what's on the page, but unfortunately DYK hooks cannot featured inferred content. Everything in the hook has to be directly stated in identical or nearly identical language with an inline citation to a source with identical or nearly identical wording in it. So you will need to add the statement that he "died a rich man" to the article with an inline citation to a source saying that in order for me to approve the hook. I know it takes getting used to DYK review. It's pretty stringent on what we can approve. Best.4meter4 (talk) 00:39, 14 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
• The Bank of England Inflation calculator is the one to use. It says: " What cost £140,000.00 in 1851 would cost £17,633,583.78 in September 2026." Change in value: 12495.4% Average annual inflation: 2.79%. I rather regret the nominator's obsession with Turner's wealth, but there we go. It is valid for a DYK, although many Victorian artists made very good money. Johnbod (talk) 17:56, 4 November 2026 (UTC)Reply

I really hate DYKGRAT at the best of times, but this is a porn star talking about her vulva, hardly "excessively sensational or gratuitous". (A less kicked-up-idiocy-at-WT:DYK comparison would be Kate Tolo's vagina, which is currently on the main page.)--Launchballer 18:55, 3 November 2026 (UTC)Reply
I have left a message at WT:DYK to get a wider hearing. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 00:10, 4 November 2026 (UTC)Reply
Suspending for a moment the issue of hook-as-gratuitous (and even that we seem to be faced with a nullifying philosophy, whereby nothing is gratuitous): I will point out here that "porn star talking about vulva" defense opens up another topic; if we take that at face value, and if the hook that hinges on it is not gratuitous, then it becomes banal. If we assume that it's just casual, "just a sex worker discussing the tools of her trade", then we would assume that is as interesting as a carpenter discussing his pry bar. As in: not at all interesting -- and, as such, ineligible. If this were the case, it would follow then that the hook is only being proposed because it is being gratuitous (and transgressive of our standards), in fact with a full knowledge of this. Dahn (talk) 13:01, 4 November 2026 (UTC)Reply
Like I stated, you can argue this for literally any hook. Just looking at DYK today, that Christopher H. Bidmead became the script editor for Doctor Who after writing a "fan letter"? shouldn't be featured since this is just a writer engaging in his craft. Same with that, after literary agents described Your Name Here as difficult to follow, co-author Helen DeWitt responded by adding more material? that Rewind became the first Philippine film to gross 900 million pesos at the worldwide box office? is just a standard cinematic news item. If DYK followed this, there would be no DYK. — Knightoftheswords(talk) 22:36, 4 November 2026 (UTC)Reply
I regard those hooks as subpar, yes (perhaps not the Bidmead one, which is about something that happened to a writer, not even pushing the product of his writing). I especially dislike those that appear to advertise products currently in shops (just as I have spoken out about hooks that have passed with a clear partisanship in ongoing political debates, be they fluffery for Iran or for the anti-Vučić activists or whatnot). I cannot police DYK against all such entries, but I can urge my fellow editors to apply more caution -- not least of all when the "dog bites man" hook is centered on a pornographic product. This, incidentally, is not puritanism, it is a basic interest in maintaining editorial standards; I myself have recently written a hook referring to toplessness in communist Romania -- though picked out and phrased so as to mention a cultural and political aspect (the "significance" aspect should also debunk your claim that "there would be no DYK without banal hooks"; in fact, most hooks are not ads for products, but I can see how the recent increase in such hooks has given you the impression that DYKs are, and should be, written as ads). Dahn (talk) 06:47, 5 November 2026 (UTC)Reply
Perhaps a bit off-topic, but let's also note the added hint of banality in pornographic hooks: Unlike writing a book or a script, even a godawful one, unlike a minor achievement in carpentry or plumbing, displaying or describing one's genitals is an efortless craft, fungible to a certain extent, accessible to just about anyone on the planet, and centered on attributes that, like hair color or physical condition, are largely outside one's control. The analogy with book- or film-themed promotional hooks (as annoying as they are) also fails on this level: as a rule, the cultural product doesn't exist on OF, or on dick pics for that matter. This even sets it apart from other pornographic products, which may even be culturally significant, and were hooks can be written, and have been written, to be focused on that aspect of things. Your proposed hook really was the bottom of the barrel, from any position one takes. I'd wager that even die-hard gooners would be puzzled as to what makes this a hook. Dahn (talk) 07:06, 5 November 2026 (UTC)Reply
I have struck the hook per the concerns raised by other editors. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 04:21, 5 November 2026 (UTC)Reply

It looks like there is already some interesting stuff to be squeezed out of the sources - but I already found something weird. The hook isn't the most interesting fact in the article. (Also, technically the U.S. government is funding a private consortium to build the reactor.) Try to go for something that would seem unusual to a layman, rather than a simple definition. Maybe that it's the first to use chloride instead of fluoride? Maybe that it's in Idaho? INL, like most DoE National Laboratories, is operated by a private contractor and not directly by the federal government, so the images are not actually public domain. The top image should be permissible under fair use since it's a structure under construction, but you'll have to downsize it to 250px, re-upload it to Wikipedia (not Commons), and include Template:Non-free use rationale on the image page. • First, "sealed" is a bit of an interesting word, but the common known meaning is that the road is closed rather than paved. Secondly, a gravel road that has been paved isn't exactly notable unless you highlight it was a main road that hasn't been paved for 80 years until recently. Thirdly, the road description is largely unsourced. I recommend citing to an official map if there's any.--ZKang123 (talk · contribs) 06:30, 20 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

• New enough, long enough, no QPQ needed. Fun article, and pretty solid for food articles. Its tricky to make a non-stub food article! Only one practical issue in the article, in that "Pumpkin swirl brookies are typically more orange than regular brookies." needs a citation or removal. But I'm not really sold on the hooks. They're not that interesting. At a minimum, I wouldn't name the people (nobody will care or know); for hook1 I'd suggest something like ALT2. I don't like ALT1 and I'm not seeing a way to improve it unfortunately? Anyways, if you can fix that sentence, and lemme know your thoughts on other hooks, we can get this approved :) CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n!⚓ 01:22, 19 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello, @CaptainEek thank you so much for reviewing my article. The orangeness of the pumpkin cookies has been removed, thank you for letting me know it was there. I believe that ALT 3 may be better for accuracy purposes, as from what I've read, MasterChef Australia is a round (or episode) based series, and the brookies did not win him the competition itself. If you believe that ALT 2 still would be able to be used, then I would be happy to have it be used. I would love to hear what you think. - FinnDalyyy

I have also created ALT 4, which could be used instead.

Hello @Launchballer, thank you for the help. The source used is pretty on par with the quote chosen, "The brownie portion provides dense, fudgy richness with deep chocolate flavor, while the cookie portion adds structure, chewiness, and pockets of sweetness from chocolate chips. When baked together, the two baters create a visually striking marbled effect and a highly textured bite." - FinnDalyyy (talk) 15:46, 30 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

No close paraphrasing was detected, and the article meets DYK length requirements. No QPQ needed for a nominator with less than five nominations. The hook fact is mentioned in the article, but lacks a footnote. That has to be addressed per WP:DYKHFC before this can be approved. Nevertheless, there are some issues in the article content that need to be addressed. The infobox states Bey's birth as around the 1870s. However, the biography section stipulated that Bey's age was in his forties in 1921, suggesting that he might have been born sometime between 1870 and 1881. Other than that, the article stated that Dedeoglou invited Bey in 1926, yet the sources that you cited did not mention the year of that event. Once you resolve these issues, the hook is ready to be published. Faldi00 (talk) 16:21, 26 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Thank you! I removed the "birth_date" from the infobox and I have also reworded the sentence as you correctly noted (you were right that the invitation isn't dated, only his arrival is). In the infobox, you stated that Bey was born in Koşu. Please include it in the body sections of the article and cite the source that mentions it.Faldi00 (talk) 10:48, 31 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

• New enough, just long enough, QPQ done. However, the article needs to be thoroughly looked through to ensure it is not misrepresenting the sources. At various points, the text draws implications the sources do not make. For example, the hook suggestion that Salim was a representative at peace talks does not really accord with the source, which suggests Salim was sent as a gesture but that no talks happened. The article saying he "earned" the rank of sergeant is almost the opposite of what the source implies. "named as a potential successor" goes beyond the source, which notes only he was seen as a possible successor along with his brother, which is little more than noting they were sons of the leader. The defection of Salim and his brother created a power structure per the source, and I am not sure where "weakened its command structure" comes from. I have not checked everything, this was a small sample. CMD (talk) 04:23, 30 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

The prose size tool will show slightly less than a fivefold increase since I converted the list of astrolabes into a bullet-point list (which is ignored by the tool). I'm asking for the list of astrolabes (which could be prose text, but is more clear as a list) to be counted toward the fivefold increase.

• DareshMohan, New enough, BLP-compliant, neutral. I don't see what is supporting "During the flower exhibition at Yercaud..." in the source. Long enough, although I think the sentence "His teachers were Nathashwara Vidhuvan Nadesan..." is bloat, just reading as a string of names without context, none apparently notable; they can be removed. I'm less sure on whether it is reliably sourced. Much of the article is based on an interview with the subject. On the hook specifically, is this something that is formalized? This source has obviously not run the numbers themselves, they can't even get his age at death right. It's likely coming from a press release. Can you give some comment on this, so I can have confidence to endorse the number being on the front page uncritically? Whonting (talk) 10:33, 25 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
• @Whonting: The Yercaud statement is from a different source has been updated in the article and the bloated statement has been removed. What do you think about the alternative hook? The Tamil language alternative version of this article predicted he has sung at least 300 songs per the discography table and I agree there are press release errors regarding his age at death and number of songs being 300 vs 3000.
• Thanks DareshMohan, the Hollywood Reporter article gives me more confidence with both hooks, I'll give a tick to this once the following is addressed. And after looking closer, I think the age thing is reversed - the article's claim that Krishnaraj was born on 25 December 1951 is unsourced. Whonting (talk) 05:41, 29 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Overall: Thanks for your work on this page, I really enjoyed reading it and the promotion to GA was well-deserved! I've spotted no issues in a read-through, Earwig check and spotcheck of sources. (I do slightly wish the article used sfn templates, but appreciate the work that would be involved in adding them now as you noted during the GA review.)

I think a couple of the proposed hooks might just need a little more work/thought if you want to keep them as options:

• The first proposed hook (ALT0) doesn't (directly) appear in the article, which is important for verification. The second paragraph in the 'Causes' section says that information about the birth control pill was limited and could be withheld from single women, but doesn't clearly state that WIP publications were the first to explain them. Generally speaking "first" hooks are also quite tricky as they are prone to being debunked (see WP:DYKHOOK).
• I think ALT1 is good, although "forgotten" is also not covered in the article as it is; "earlier" might be better, but is less hooky. Do the cited sources support "forgotten'?
• I don't have any issues with ALT2, which looks good to me.

Let me know if you have any further thoughts on ALT0 and ALT1, or otherwise let me know if you'd prefer to withdraw them and just proceed with ALT2. Cheers, Chocmilk03 (talk) 00:33, 3 November 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Chocmilk03: Thank you so much for the feedback! How does this sound for a rewrite of ALT0? ...that underground magazines in the women in print movement distributed information about contraception when it was illegal for single women in the United States to possess birth control?
For ALT1, the source that explicitly mentions "forgotten women's writings," is Mixed Media by Simone Murray (the phrase "forgotten women's classics" appears on p. 69 and p. 75. If I added that source to the hook, would that suffice, or is there more needed?
My final question is whether I can/should make these edits directly to the proposed hooks, or if I should strike through the old ones and add additional ALTs with the new source and phrasing. This is my first DYK so I don't want to unintentionally make disruptive edits. Any guidance appreciated! Hawksquill (talk) 14:47, 4 November 2026 (UTC)Reply

• The article was moved to main space on 10/26 (after six months incubation) and thus satisfies the newness requirement. It is also long enough. However, this hook concerns a new commercial product scheduled for release on November 6. The two proposed hooks read like an advertisement/promotion for the product, touting its new features (first "water resistant" and first with "OLED display"). It is also timed so as to be run on the main page around the product's release and during the Christmas buying season. The main page of Wikipedia should not be used to promote the release of a commercial product. See WP:DYKNOT prohibiting the use of DYK as "a means of advertising, or of promoting commercial ... causes," especially during "product launches". It is also a work-in-progress which has an entire section tagged as "This section is empty." Cbl62 (talk) 13:39, 27 October 2026 (UTC) Reply

• Article is new enough and long enough. First hook is adequately sourced, with the second I dunno which source supports it. The "drop three random sentences into Google" test shows no copyvio. Going by Google News results it seems like sanitary conditions are a common topic, so NPOV seems OK although I wonder if there is anything here that could be used. I think the hook needs some work, though; neither seems particularly interesting, perhaps we should pipelink Oyingbo under "one of the oldest and busiest markets in Lagos" or would that be too long? Come to think of it, are there other major markets in Lagos? It's a big city (2nd largest in Africa) AFAIK so if this is actually the largest market there, it should be noted. 21 has a broken DOI and I wonder if one can actually generalize from that study. Regarding 20, how many markets are there in Lagos to confront Oyingbo to? What's the relevance of breastfeeding and HIV to the market - it doesn't seem like it's a discussion about misconceptions on HIV spread? What's the source for "Oyingbo market mainly offers foodstuffs, such as meat, fruit, and vegetables. "? What's "Ogunbona, Morounmubo Deborah. "Chapter Twenty-Two.""? I am a bit struggling with finding the content in #5. 6 doesn't work. Where is "oldest" in #1? Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 17:27, 27 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Unfortunately that second part might still be a little in-universe (and misleading, as "jail isn't real" is (1) in quotes and (2) applicable to only the game that was quoted). That second part just happens to be the interesting aspect of the hook, sadly. Epicgenius (talk) 19:03, 27 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Perhaps switch out Poirot's with Christie's name? With that change, the hook would be good to go. Epicgenius (talk) 22:18, 1 November 2026 (UTC)Reply

The fact that Wollaston Lake interrupts the watershed of the Arctic Divide is supported by sources, by a source from two centuries ago and two modern sources. However, going through those sources, I've not found a mention that Wollaston Lake is the "largest lake in the world that naturally drains to two oceans". I've not found it in Bouchette, Sowby & Seigel, or Mitchell & Prepas. Am I just missing it? Can you provide clarification?

Hook interest Yes, interesting hook.

The map is very large scale and doesn't show the location of Wollaston Lake; also a visual accessiblity issue, as the Arctic Divide is in green and the Hudson Bay watershed is in red; difficult for colour-blind readers. The highway sign needs to be expanded to be read, so not good for a small size

QPQ Shrira-Pesenson equation languished in the approval process, with comments from several editors; Antony-22 finished the review process and approved the article as good to go.

Comments I have a few vocabulary points:

• (1) Nonsuch was an English ship, not British; England and Scotland were still two separate countries at that point, and the HBC exploration was an English initiative.
• (2) I don't think the term "European Canadians" is appropriate. It's a modern term to indicate individuals in Canada with European ancestry, and as the article mentions, it can be a politically loaded term. I doubt that it would have been used at the time of the explorations. Hearne and Arrowsmith would both self-identify as English. Peter Pond is a bit of a mystery, but was originally from Connecticut and appears to have returned there after his fur-trading days were done. Thompson was Welsh, and although he lived permanently in Montreal, he likely wouldn't have been thought of as Canadian when he was exploring, since at that time the term meant the francophone inhabitants of the old Province of Quebec and then Lower Canada. I would suggest ditching "European Canadians" entirely and using a term such as "European" or "people of European background".
• (3) "newly confederated Canada" just sounds odd to me. Canada is not a confederation, by political science definitions. The term "Confederation" has come to mean the process of coming together, but not the nature of the country. Why not just say "Canada"?

Interesting article. Enjoyed reading it.

Qviri, did you take a zoomed-in version? Or could we at least crop to zoom in on it?
QPQ: None required.

Many elements of the DYK eligibility criteria were covered during the GAN. I did a source verifiability spot check by running the article through WP:AI source verifier and it turned up no actionable issues. ALT2 is not eligible because it doesn't appear in the article (unless I'm just missing it), but I think ALT0 is strongest anyways. There's a potential license issue with a different photo in the article, which I raised on the talk page, but that can proceed independently of this DYK.

Overall, once the photo visibility issue is resolved it'll be good for ALT0a (which fixes the in-universe issue): ... that people held a funeral for Global Convenience (pictured), a floating replica convenience store art installation in Toronto, after it was removed? I've created File:Global_Convenience_floating_art,_Harbour_Square,_July_2026_(cropped).jpg, which addresses the image issue. This is now good to go...except that there are concerns that the article may have been written with AI and the article has been correspondingly tagged. So this should probably go on hold until those are resolved. Sdkb talk 16:35, 31 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

'She had been in their back yard and was limping. She came up and allowed them to pet her. It was a sunny day. She then went wading in their pond and then went off into the woods and that was the last time they saw her,” Doyle said. “She had been unhappy for weeks and wouldn’t let anyone get near enough to see what was wrong. 'It was like she knew … and came to say goodbye,' he added. Three years later, she’s still missed."

"The 42-inch iron statue and granite base, dedicated to the village’s celebrated, tame white-tailed deer that captured the hearts of many when she was alive, was quietly put in place atop a concrete pad in late September on a grassy patch of land donated by Community Bank. It’s located in a highly visible area in the downtown, just off the sidewalk, a few doors down from the community theater. The project was championed by PROP (Preservation and Revitalization of Pulaski), a non-profit, community group, a paid for by private and local business donations. The inscription on the granite base reads simply, 'Bella.'"

"It’s been more than three years since Bella’s disappearance. Up until that point, she fearlessly walked the village streets and yards, posed for selfies with young and old alike, played with local dogs, slept in backyards and on front porches, took day-time naps on the elementary school lawn, dined on residents gardens and often was hand-fed by many, often with her favorite snack – Captain Crunch cereal. Talk to village residents today and everyone seems to have a Bella story."

The thing that baffles me here is that you are referring to Ryan Gosling as a "minor actor" and an MCU film as a "[minor] movie". It's a hook about one of the most popular actors today in a very anticipated movie in the biggest cinematic universe in existence. How could anyone look at any hook involving an MCU movie, one that stars Ryan Gosling nonetheless, and think it won't resonate with readers? I personally think it's an enthrallingly subversive concept that such a big casting move in such a prominent film could be owed in no small part to a popular podcaster badgering the actor and studio executives enough to actually manifest the fancast directly at Hall H. And they don't even have to care about Josh Horowitz or entertainment podcasting because a lot of the heavy lifting in the interest of the hook is about Ryan freaking Gosling and the MCU, two subjects specifically so popular. That's one of the tricks with DYK that I am so sad reviewers seem to just not get; when you have a particular subject that you're worried people won't know or care about—like Horowitz himself—if they have any connections to any more popular subject, you might consider writing a hook about the connection to the very popular thing. But I suppose this just falls on deaf ears. Again, baffled at why this could be declined. BarntToust 17:00, 2 November 2026 (UTC)Reply

Please propose a different angle under DYK's hook requirements surrounding BLP or related articles.

It only has the allegations but not the outcome of investigation. GA promotion and nomination were both on 30 October 2026, satisfying newness. The article comfortably exceeds 1,500 prose characters. Each substantive paragraph has inline sourcing. No copyright violations or close paraphrasing were found in source spot-checks. The completed New Karakorum review supplies the required QPQ. Note: Articles intended to be held for special occasion dates should be nominated within seven days of creation from the start of expansion, or promotion to Good Article status. The nomination should be made at least one week prior to the occasion date, to allow time for reviews and promotions through the prep and queue sets, but not more than two months in advance. The proposed occasion must be deemed sufficiently special by reviewers. The timeline limitations, including the two month maximum, may be waived by consensus, if a request is made at WT:DYK, but requests are not always successful. Discussion clarifying the hold criteria can be found here: Hold criteria; discussion setting the two month limit can be found here: two month limit.
