Matt Burns posted thisJust bragging that the team at The New Stack killed the OpenAI DevDay news, and they got 2 out of the 9 Techmeme headlines (cc Paul S. and Frederic Lardinois). It's nice when hard work gets noticed.

Matt Burns posted thisHuge props to The New Stack's amazing team today. They killed it covering the news from Anthropic, OpenAI, and Jetbrains. Love this team of writers. If you're looking for the news that matters to AI-native developers, you need to follow these people. Matt Burns shared thisLove talks led by Carly PageMatt Burns shared thisJoin a small group of CISOs and SOC leaders on September 15 for a closed-door working session on where security operations are heading as AI reshapes both the attacks and the tools. Jami Hughes, Deputy CISO at Zions Bancorporation, and our Co-Founder and CPO, Oren Saban, open the discussion, moderated by Carly Page of The New Stack. Spots are limited, so we'd suggest applying early. We'd love to have you in the room. Apply to attend: https://lnkd.in/dua6VrV5

Matt Burns shared this(I was on vacation when this published so my thoughts are delayed) I had a lovely conversation with Samar where he broke down how Temporal is using AI throughout the org, how much it's costing, and what the output looks like. It was a frank conversation, and I'm grateful he was so open. I'm looking to do more of these. Hit me up if you're a CEO (or represent a CEO) that are rapidly deploying AI and want to talk about the upsides and downsides of the journey.Matt Burns shared thisMost of the measurement happening right now around AI is measuring velocity, because velocity is the thing that is easy to count. I'd argue that on its own, velocity tells you almost nothing about whether any of the work mattered. "It's not about shipping features faster. It's about shipping value customers care about." That is what I told Matt Burns at The New Stack when we sat down to talk about how we are using AI at Temporal, and it is the bar we build to. If this resonates with you, come build with us. We're hiring! Link: https://lnkd.in/gFdWRUzQTemporal 5x’d AI spend and doubled revenue. CEO Samar Abbas says he can’t prove they’re connected.Temporal 5x’d AI spend and doubled revenue. Matt Burns shared thisThis is funMatt Burns shared thisSo I followed my curiosity down a Claude tunnel last week and made a ... game? Well, sort of. It's more like a low-poly, PS1-inspired walkable memory of this humming, light-filled season of life with two little ones that (literally) run circles around me. Walk around ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gD7nMhpU Crank up the sound, hit spacebar on all the things, find the easter eggs, let me know what you think, cheers! ✌🏽

Matt Burns reposted thisMatt Burns reposted thisIn an interview with The New Stack, Sead Ahmetovic, co-founder of the WeAreDevelopers conference, talked about why he started the global conference in Vienna 11 years ago. "The marketing people, the business people, the sales people, the startup people — they all celebrated themselves. And developers are introverts. I’m an introvert. We are not that loud when we achieve something or build something. But developers build the products that the entire world uses.” Check the link in the comments for our full conversation, which also includes insights from Thomas Dohmke, CEO of Entire and the former CEO of GitHub, about what it's like when the HDMI cable fails during a live demo, among other more substantial topics.

Matt Burns posted thisA few people asked a fair question after my last post. Okay, but how are we growing media properties in 2026? What actually changed? I'm happy to share. We have three sites, so there are three different answers, but one shared habit. We're obsessive about our target audience. Roadmap is the rocket ship, and it runs on a simple mandate. Keep every Roadmap current, and launch new ones the moment demand emerges. We moved fast on Claude Code, OpenClaw, and a forward deployed engineer roadmap. Then we added premium tools that serve the same core users, like the AI tutor, a teams plan and Lesson Packs. The New Stack rebuilt what it covers. We cut way back on evergreen explainers and on second-day analysis that landed late. In their place: breaking news written for our core audience, second-day stories on the first day, and timely technical analysis and tool comparisons. We write for developers and engineers building with AI, and we do it with a sense of urgency and authority. The traffic validates this approach. Breaking news sometimes leads, but for the most part, ultra-timely, in-depth analysis carries about half of our top traffic, and people stay on it roughly twice as long as breaking news stories. Towards Data Science grew on steadier ground. Ludovic Bénistant and Ben Huberman run it with a consistent hand, and we pay writers through a fair, competitive formula tied to engaged readership. In short, good work, paid fairly, brings more good work. That's most of the story. None of this is a secret formula. Know exactly who you're building and writing for. Give them something timely and useful. Pay the people who make it. Then do it week after week. I'm lucky to work with teams that do this every day. And we're hiring to do more of it. If this is your kind of work, DM me.

Matt Burns posted thisSorry LinkedIn, I need to brag (and recruit) for a second. Things are going great, and I feel great. We're growing the team to keep up, too. If you're an editor or writer who lives in this stuff, AI, cloud native, data, I want to talk. DM me. I've spent the last two and a half years at Insight Media Group, working with the editorial teams at The New Stack, Towards Data Science, and roadmap.sh. The growth this year has been amazing. For the first time, the network crossed 60 million pageviews in a single half, up 144% from the last half. The New Stack is a steady march. Up 37% year over year, and up 50% from the back half of last year. Towards Data Science has published work from 230 authors this year alone, and most of them got paid well for the published content. TDS is hitting just shy of 2 million monthly pageviews. And roadmap.sh. It's a rocket ship. Kamran Ahmed has shipped more features and updates than I can list here, and the user growth has been explosive. Roadmap alone has 3 million monthly users, and we just launched Lesson Packs, a faster way for users to go deep on a specific skill without stitching the path together themselves. This is a fun job. I love the work, I love the people, and I'm thankful to be building this network with Joey Hinson, Henry Pickavet, Kamran Ahmed, Nick L., Ludovic Bénistant, Javier Canales Luna, Jessica Brunner, Andrew Tillery, Laila Bailey and so many others.

Matt Burns liked thisMatt Burns liked thisEnjoyed taking the stage at #ShoptalkFall with Hitha Herzog to talk about learnings from the first 10 years of StockX and the three new business models we launched this year: Live Shopping, Listings, and Mystery Boxes. The short version: 10 years is just the beginning of the journey. Access and trust made StockX the leading global marketplace for culture. The next decade is about expansion into a multi-experience platform with new, used, live and gamification in one place, all still built on the same trust layer we started with a decade ago. Two areas I'm bullish on that came up in the conversation: Live Shopping. We're still in the early innings:roughly 1% of US e-commerce today vs. ~30% in China, and projected to hit $100B across the US and Europe by 2030. It's native to how the next generation discovers and buys and the signal we're already seeing on StockX Live is exciting. AI in the customer experience. Most of the industry, including StockX, has been transforming how it operates behind the scenes with AI. The next opportunity for brands and marketplaces is using it to change how people actually shop —our new AI photo-based Listings experience is just the start. Thanks to the Shoptalk team and to Hitha for the discussion.

Matt Burns liked thisMatt Burns liked this😺 Today we’re launching a new brand at Whisker 😺 Meet Lit™ For years, we’ve sold GreatLitter as the litter we recommend for Litter-Robot. It’s a great product with a uniquely simple, high-performing formula: one ingredient, 100% naturally sun-dried sodium bentonite clay. But we realized we were thinking too narrowly about the opportunity. GreatLitter didn’t need to just be a companion to Litter-Robot. It could stand on its own. So today, GreatLitter becomes Lit, an entirely new brand identity with a much bigger ambition: bringing a premium litter experience to cat parents, whether they own a Litter-Robot or use a traditional litter box. The product hasn’t changed because that one ingredient was already perfect as it was. But the way we’re bringing it to the world has. I love launches like this because they’re a reminder that innovation doesn’t always mean inventing something new. Sometimes it means recognizing the potential in something that’s already great and giving it a new platform to grow. Lit also represents another step in Whisker’s evolution. We’ve spent years building the leading brand in connected cat care, and we see a much larger opportunity to thoughtfully improve more of the everyday experiences that come with loving and caring for cats. More on that another day 😉 Huge congratulations to the Whisker team that brought Lit to life. Wildly clean litter. Now with a brand of its own. Check it out at Litterbox.com 🔥Lit™ Natural Cat Litter | Low Dust, Low Tracking, UnscentedLit™ Natural Cat Litter | Low Dust, Low Tracking, Unscented

Matt Burns liked thisMatt Burns liked thisThat’s a wrap for Microsoft’s FabCon/SQLCon in Barcelona for me, but it’s also the beginning of the fall conference season and that means it’s time to bring the show floor carpet reviews back! FabCon was outstanding. Learned a lot, but thankfully I did not have to stand on the carpet a lot. It was rather thin, and while I love that they reused older carpet, the colors between the different rolls didn’t always match exactly. Good, tight seams, though. No risk of stumbling while talking about SQL joins. 2.5/5

Matt Burns liked thisMatt Burns liked thisWe picked San José for a reason. This is the city where so much of what our network builds on got written in the first place — and now, for the first time, the World Congress is here too. The room made the thesis obvious before anyone said a word: this isn't a demo crowd. Ten thousand developers, engineers, and builders, walking into the place where "software eating the world" stopped being a slogan and just became the job. The throughline for the next two days: AI has moved past the demo. The harder, less glamorous work — reliability, security, the systems that hold up in production — is where the real conversation is now. Let's go! 🙌

"AI summaries and chatbots... are siphoning away audiences. A recent study found that in 2025, online traffic to news sites fell by one-third. This problem should concern everyone, not just journalists and media executives, because democratic societies cannot function without quality information. At a time of polarization, fragmentation, and democratic backsliding, news outlets that provide quality journalism are more necessary than ever." This is a bold proposal by Anya Schiffrin and Roberta Carlini urging Europeans to make AI pay for the quality content that thousands of journalists produce with rigor and care, and that feeds AI -- and a way to rebalance the playing field for the good. This pairs well with an excellent piece about how AI is eating education today (cannibalizing learning)... and, quite the opposite of a tempering approach, being emboldened to do so. fyi some of my European friends: David Kipp Lena Altman Anja Spiller Sven Engel

There's now a second bill to exempt ALPR data from FOIA here in CT: https://lnkd.in/eM_X_reX Unlike the other bill, this one is primarily aimed at limiting how ALPRs can be used. Police are banned from using them except to compare hits to hotlists. Data would have to be deleted every 7 days. And, like the other bill, ALPRs couldn't be used for immigration enforcement. CT data could also only be shared with other in-state agencies or with MA, NY and RI. And federal access would be limited to complying with warrants, terrorism related searches, or searches about motor vehicle registration. It would also require public agencies to publish written usage and privacy policies and gives individuals the ability to sue law enforcement found to have violated the law. HOWEVER, the bill would also exempt ALPR data from FOIA. It is slightly better in that it specifies that you can disclose camera locations and data derived from audits. Once again, I'm just baffled why that exemption is included in this bill. The majority of these provisions establish good accountability limits on ALPRs. Banning the public from seeing ALPR data doesn't accomplish the same end. Exempting ALPR data from FOIA is at odds with the accountability measures limiting the use of ALPR technology in this bill and in SB 4. Journalists and privacy organizations have used FOIA to break a lot of stories that have sounded the alarm about how ALPR is being used. Cutting off our access to that data doesn't stop abuse. It just makes it more difficult to expose. It's giving ALPR companies (which are private entities and not subject to FOIA) exactly what they want: more room to operate in secret.
