As per the revised data, 1,27,028 MBBS seats have been renewed, while 13,186 additional seats have been introduced. The updated seat figures are particularly important for candidates participating in NEET UG Counselling 2026, as the NMC-approved intake determines the seats available for admission.

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has released an updated MBBS seat matrix showing a further rise in the total number of medical seats for the 2026-27 academic session.
The earlier NMC data showed 1,36,939 MBBS seats across 823 medical colleges. With the revised figure now standing at 1,40,214 seats, the total intake has increased by 3,275 seats.
The additional seats provide NEET UG 2026 aspirants with more admission opportunities during counselling. However, the actual availability of a seat will depend on factors such as the college, state, candidate category and applicable admission rules.
Private medical institutions have witnessed a notable expansion in their MBBS seat capacity.
As per the earlier NMC figures, private colleges offered around 73,643 MBBS seats, whereas government medical colleges had more than 63,000 seats.
Under the latest revised matrix, the intake of private medical colleges has increased to 76,243 seats. As a result, private institutions now account for more than half of the total MBBS seats listed in the updated matrix.
The NMC has instructed medical colleges to verify the information listed for their respective institutions in the revised MBBS seat matrix for 2026-27.
If colleges find any incorrect or missing information, they have been asked to bring it to the attention of the concerned NMC authority for review and necessary action.
Such verification is important ahead of counselling because the approved seat intake will determine the actual seats available to NEET UG 2026 candidates.
The revised seat matrix is an important reference for candidates participating in NEET UG Counselling 2026. Aspirants should check the latest seat availability before submitting or modifying their college preferences.
Seat availability may differ according to:
Medical college
State or Union Territory
Candidate category
Government or private institution
NMC-approved seat intake
Candidates should rely on the latest revised seat matrix rather than older figures while preparing their counselling choices.
