Nickelodeon International to Premiere 'Sonic Prime' In June 2026

Nickelodeon International will premiere Sonic Prime, the hit CG-animated adventure series based on the iconic Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, across its Nickelodeon Global Unlimited feed, currently available in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), South Africa, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Portugal, in June 2026! The news follows the series debuting on Nickelodeon's international Nicktoons feeds last year.

Sonic Prime will air weekdays at 11:00 CET on Nickelodeon Global Unlimited.

In Sonic Prime, the action-packed adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog go into overdrive when a run-in with Dr. Eggman results in a literal universe-shattering event. Desperate to piece his prime reality back together and save his old friends, Sonic races through the Shatterverse, discovering strange worlds and enlisting new friends in an epic adventure of a lifetime.

Co-produced by SEGA and WildBrain, Sonic Prime was animated at WildBrain’s Vancouver studio, with SEGA and WildBrain jointly participating across production, distribution and licensing. SEGA represents licensing for Sonic Prime in North America, LatAm and Japan, while WildBrain CPLG represents the brand in the rest of the world.

Sonic Prime comes to Nickelodeon as part of a partnership between Paramount and WildBrain to bring the hit series to the top kids’ entertainment channel. The agreement saw 22 half-hour episodes and one hour-long special of Sonic Prime launch on Nickelodeon in the US and Australia on December 7, followed by Italy (on Super!, Paramount's free-to-air kids channel) on December 23, Nickelodeon UK & Ireland on January 20, and on Nickelodeon Germany on March 1. The series has since rolled out on Nickelodeon and Nicktoons channels globally.

‘Sonic the Hedgehog 4’ Wraps Shooting; First Look at Metal Sonic Revealed

Director Jeff Fowler has wrapped filming on Sonic the Hedgehog 4.

Fowler, who directed all three Sonic films, shared the news via X/Twitter, writing: “On behalf of this amazing cast/crew, we have filmed the BEST Sonic Movie yet and can’t wait to share.”

He also shared a photo of himself in the director’s chair posing with a figure of Metal Sonic, the evil robot teased in the third installment.

Update (6/8) - Voice recording for Sonic the Hedgehog 4 has begun, Ben Schwartz has announced! Lee Majdoub has also teased that "You're all going to lose your minds!".

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 marks the latest adventure for the anthropomorphic speedster. Plot details for the fourth film are under wraps. But the cast will be led by Ben Schwartz. Jim Carrey, Kristen Bell, Idris Elba, Keanu Reeves, James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Ben Kingsley, Matt Berry, Colleen O’Shaughnessey, Lee Majdoub, Nick Offerman and Richard Ayoade, who is swapping crystals for emeralds.

Paramount’s live-action/CGI hybrid film series has proved incredibly lucrative at the global box office, grossing more than $1 billion.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3, which debuted in December 2024, is officially the property’s highest-grossing entry with $218 million domestically and $422 million globally to date. Sonic 4 builds on the commercial success of its predecessors: the original 2020 Sonic the Hedgehog became a surprise winner, earning $148 million domestically and $319 million globally and setting a then-record for the highest-grossing video game adaptation in North America. And the 2022 sequel Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was bigger than the first, powering to $190 million domestically and $405 million globally. In January 2025, the Sonic franchise collectively surpassed $1 billion in box office receipts worldwide.

Knuckles, a limited "side quest" event series set between the second and third movies that follows Knuckles (Elba) on a hilarious and action-packed journey of self-discovery as he agrees to train Wade (Adam Pally) as his protégé and teach him the ways of the Echidna warrior, smashed global viewership records when it debuted on Paramount+ in April 2024.

Sonic's back in Sonic Prime season three, which made its debut on Nickelodeon on Friday, May 15 at 6:00 p.m. (ET/PT)! Following its launch, fans can catch more all-new episodes of the hit CG-animated adventure series based on the iconic Sonic the Hedgehog franchise every Friday at 6:00 p.m. (ET/PT) on Nick.

In Sonic Prime, the action-packed adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog go into overdrive when a run-in with Dr. Eggman results in a literal universe-shattering event. In the season three premiere of Sonic Prime, "Grim Tidings," with the Paradox Prism in his hands, Nine begins building the Grim into his own personal paradise, unless Sonic and Shadow can convince him otherwise. (#3x; season three premiere)

Kristen Bell Joins ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 4’ Voice Cast as Amy Rose

Kristen Bell will join the voice cast Sonic the Hedgehog 4 as Amy Rose, the pink creature with a major crush on the titular blue speedster.

Ben Schwartz, who provides the voice of Sonic in Paramount’s live-action/ CGI hybrid film series, shared the casting news on social media with the caption, “WE HAVE OUR AMY ROSE!!! And I could not be more excited!!! Please welcome the incredible @kristenanniebell to the @sonicmovie family!!!”

Bell is prolific in the voice acting arena, having supplied the pipes for Anna in Disney’s wildly popular Frozen franchise. She also voiced a sloth in Disney’s Zootopia 2 and narrated the hit CW television show Gossip Girl. Bell, who broke out in the 2004 teen drama Veronica Mars, also starred in The Good Place and currently stars in the Netflix series Nobody Wants This.

Plot details for the fourth film are under wraps. Metal Sonic, an intelligence robot with a dark side who appeared with Amy Rose appeared in the mid-credits scene of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, will also appear in the upcoming action-adventure, though a voice actor hasn’t been revealed. In prior Sonic entries, Idris Elba and Colleen O’Shaughnessey voiced the speed demon’s anthropomorphic pals Knuckles and Tails, and Keanu Reeves is behind the mysterious Shadow. Meanwhile in human form, Jim Carrey has portrayed the hedgehog’s main antagonist Dr. Robotnik and James Marsden and Tika Sumpter play Sonic’s adopted parental figures.

Jeff Fowler has directed all three Sonic films, which have collectively grossed $1 billion at the global box office. He’s returning for the fourth installment, set for theatrical release in March 2027.

Update (3/3): Director Jeff Fowler took to social media on Monday (March 2) to announce that Sonic the Hedgehog 4 has begun production. The post includes an image of the filmmaker appearing to wield the hammer that is associated with the franchise’s pink hedgehog Amy Rose, which follows the announcement last month that Kristen Bell is set to voice the role.

“Ready 4 Action,” Fowler, who helmed the first three movies, captioned his post. “#SonicMovie4 now filming.”

Toronto, ON – July 15, 2025 – WildBrain, a global leader in kids’ and family entertainment, and Paramount have doubled down on their partnership to bring the hit series Sonic Prime to more Nickelodeon fans around the world. In an expanded agreement, Paramount has extended its rights for 22 half-hour episodes of Sonic Prime and one hour-long special to include territories across APAC, EMEA and LatAm. These new territories add to those previously announced including the U.S., Australia, Italy, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the U.K. and Ireland.

Nickelodeon will begin daily roll out of the first 16 episodes in the new territories beginning July 21, 2025, with the remaining episodes rolling out at a later date. In APAC, fans will be able to enjoy Sonic Prime on Nickelodeon in New Zealand, the Pacific Islands, Southeast Asia and the Philippines. In Sonic Prime, the action-packed adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog go into overdrive when a run-in with Dr. Eggman results in a literal universe-shattering event. Desperate to piece his prime reality back together and save his old friends, Sonic races through the Shatterverse, discovering strange worlds and enlisting new friends in an epic adventure of a lifetime.

Co-produced by SEGA and WildBrain, Sonic Prime was animated at WildBrain’s Vancouver studio, with SEGA and WildBrain jointly participating across production, distribution and licensing. SEGA represents licensing for Sonic Prime in North America, LatAm and Japan, while WildBrain CPLG represents the brand in the rest of the world.

Sonic Prime comes to Nickelodeon as part of a partnership between Paramount and WildBrain to bring the hit series to the top kids’ entertainment channel. 'Knuckles' Now Available to Stream on ITVX In the UK

The hit Paramount+ Original event series, Knuckles, is now available to stream on ITVX, the streaming service from British free-to-air public broadcaster ITV, as part of the service's Easter Treats. Set in the “Cinematic World of Sonic the Hedgehog,” from Paramount Pictures and SEGA of America, Knuckles is a new live-action six-episode event series that follows Knuckles (Idris Elba) on a hilarious and action-packed journey of self-discovery as he agrees to train Wade (Adam Pally) as his protégé and teach him the ways of the Echidna warrior. The series takes place between the films Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Sonic the Hedgehog 3.

In addition to Elba starring as the titular character, Adam Pally reprises his role from the film franchise as Wade Whipple. The ensemble cast includes guest stars Stockard Channing (The West Wing), Edi Patterson (The Righteous Gemstones), Scott Mescudi (Don’t Look Up), Ellie Taylor (Ted Lasso, The Mash Report), Julian Barratt (Mindhorn), Rory McCann (Game of Thrones), Cary Elwes (Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning), Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future), Paul Scheer (Black Monday), and Rob Huebel (Childrens Hospital). Special guest star Ben Schwartz will reprise his role as Sonic, as well as special guest star Tika Sumpter, reprising her role as Maddie. Colleen O’Shaughnessey will also return as a special guest star in her role as Tails.

All of the key creative team from the previous films have returned for the series, including the films’ director/executive producer Jeff Fowler, who directed the pilot episode and helped transition the film's signature cinematic animation style to television, as well as Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, John Whittington and Toru Nakahara, who serve as executive producers along with Idris Elba. Additional directors for the series include Ged Wright, Brandon Trost, Jorma Taccone and Carol Banker.

The series was created for television by John Whittington and Toby Ascher, who is showrunning during production. Whittington, who wrote Sonic the Hedgehog 2, serves as head writer and wrote the pilot for the series. Additional series writers include Brian Schacter and James Madejski.

Knuckles originally debuted on Paramount+ on April 26, where it smashed numerous records over its premiere weekend, including setting a new global record as the most-watched Paramount+ original series of all time with more than 4M hours streamed over premiere weekend. In addition to its overall record, the series marks as one of Paramount+’s most-watched kids-and-family title ever. The series launch also had a halo effect on other Sonic the Hedgehog titles on the service, with viewership up more than 278 percent globally over the daily average.

The combined global box office for Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 stands at $725.2 million. On Paramount+, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is the top-performing Kids & Family film on the service in reach and is also one of the service’s most re-watched films. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will be released in theaters on Dec 20th, 2024.

Upon its theatrical debut, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 raced to the top of the North American box-office, followed by the franchise’s biggest international opening. The film has grossed over $478 million, making it the highest-grossing feature in the series and the second highest-grossing video game film of all time, catapulting the franchise past $1.2 billion in global box office gross.
