A new SpongeBob SquarePants-themed attraction is taking shape at the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minneapolis.

Dutchman’s Deck will open in March 2027, inspired by the Flying Dutchman, the ghostly villain of Nickelodeon's beloved animated series, and the antagonist of 2025's The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants.

The new attraction is taking up residence in the space formerly occupied by the similarly themed ropes course, Dutchman’s Deck Ropes Course, at Nickelodeon Universe.

When completed, the Dutchman’s Deck will feature five towers, seven bridges, two slides, interactive games, and tunnels on a course that rises 55 feet above the park just across from the SpongeBob SquarePants Rock Bottom Plunge roller coaster.

There will also be four Nickelodeon-themed birthday party rooms inside the Dutchman’s Deck area, according to an announcement from the mall. 

After it opens, it’ll be part of the standard wristband experience at the theme park, as opposed to costing an extra fee, as is the case with attractions like FlyOver America and the 5D Extreme Attraction in the mall’s central space.

All-new Dutchman’s Deck attraction sets sail inside Nickelodeon Universe at Mall of America for Spring Break 2027

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. — Argh! Prepared to be ghostified! Mall of America is bringing an all-new adventure to Nickelodeon Universe with the opening of Dutchman’s Deck, a towering new play experience inspired by the Flying Dutchman, SpongeBob SquarePants’ legendary ghostly pirate and main antagonist of the recent The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants. Opening in March 2027, the attraction will give kids a new way to climb, explore and play high above the theme park.

Dutchman’s Deck packs five towers, seven bridges and two slides into multiple levels of adventure. Kids can crawl through tunnels, explore interactive features and find plenty of ways to climb and swing.

“Dutchman’s Deck gives kids a place to stay active, spark their imaginations and have fun,” said Jill Renslow, Chief Business Development & Marketing Officer at Mall of America. “From climbing and exploring to racing down the slides, there’s something to discover around every corner. We can’t wait for families to set out on an adventure and experience it for themselves.”

Standing at nearly 55 feet high, Dutchman’s Deck brings the Flying Dutchman’s ghostly ship to life, complete with a crow’s nest, lookout towers and seafaring-themed play elements on every level. Lighting and underwater effects will add to the experience and make Dutchman’s Deck a colorful addition to the theme park.

Interactive games and musical play features keep young swabbies busy, with activities sized just right for the littlest buccaneers. Four Nickelodeon brand-themed birthday party rooms inside Dutchman’s Deck let families celebrate their big day on board while enjoying Nickelodeon Universe.

The H.R. MacMillan Space Centre In Vancouver to Host a PAW Patrol Planetarium Experience Featuring 'A PAW Patrol Christmas'

The H.R. MacMillan Space Centre in Vancouver, Canada has announced plans to host a PAW Patrol Planetarium Experience featuring A PAW Patrol Christmas this winter!

In the PAW Patrol Planetarium Experience, fans will get transported to Adventure Bay as they watch this holiday classic on the planetarium screen for the first time, with immersive 360° settings that will put them inside the iconic Lookout Tower, and in Santa's workshop. Fans who stay till the end will be treated to a brand-new Santa's sleigh ride scene made just for the planetarium!

PAW Patrol Planetarium Experience opens Wednesday, November 11, 2026, with performances every Saturday and Sunday through to Sunday, December 13, 2026. Tickets are available now on the official H.R. MacMillan Space Centre website. The presentation is recommended for ages 2+.

A PAW Patrol Christmas features a mix of original and classic holiday songs in a heartwarming story following construction-savvy pup Rubble. Give Like a Kid Again with UNICEF!

This Halloween, UNICEF USA is bringing its beloved Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF campaign to Minnesota with a special celebration at Booniverse in Nickelodeon Universe at Mall of America, October 15th–18th!

Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF has been bringing kids and families together to help children around the world for more than 75 years. What started in 1950 with a group of children collecting just $17 in decorated milk cartons has grown into an iconic Halloween tradition that has raised nearly $200 million to support children worldwide. (How cool is that?!)

This year’s “Give Like a Kid Again” campaign is all about reminding the next generation that even the smallest acts of kindness can make a big difference.

The FUN-ERGY FACTORY brings the brand’s signature spirit of play to life inside its booth (#1523) on the convention center floor, where kids of all ages power the experience through interactive challenges, immersive moments and must-share photo opportunities inspired by Nickelodeon’s beloved franchises, including SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS, AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER and TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES across all four NYCC days. MIAMI, Oct. 2, 2026 – Royal Caribbean is introducing “The SpongeBob Musical,*” the first-ever at-sea production inspired by the Tony award-winning Broadway show on Hero of the Seas when the fourth Icon Class vacation sets sail from Miami in August 2027. As part of the bold entertainment lineup on the newest family vacation, the adventure-packed show will bring the vibrant world of Bikini Bottom to life in the Royal Theater. “The SpongeBob Musical” joins Royal Caribbean’s award-winning entertainment portfolio, which continues to push the boundaries for experiences across stage, air, water and ice for vacationers of all ages.

From under the sea to at sea, “The SpongeBob Musical” on Hero will transform the beloved Nickelodeon animated series and 12-time Tony Award-nominated Broadway show into a reimagined production for the whole family that can be experienced only on Royal Caribbean. Filled with unexpected twists, larger-than-life characters, hit songs and above all – friendship, the adventure will show audiences that heroes can come from even the most unlikely places as SpongeBob and his Bikini Bottom friends race against time to save their town from total destruction. 

Beyond groundbreaking entertainment for all ages, vacationers can go all in on adventure across eight neighborhoods with experiences including:

• Crown’s Edge, part skywalk, part zip line experience suspended 154 feet above the ocean

• Category 6, the largest waterpark at sea

• Nine pools, including the new Coconut Cove pool and the adults-only The Hideaway, featuring two pools and the largest swim-up bar at sea

• 28 dining venues, including the multi-course Orleans Parrish Supper Club; an immersive train car dining experience at Royal Railway – Hero Station; hands-on cooking classes in a new venue to be revealed and more

• Brand-new family accommodations, including the three-deck Ultimate Family Treehouse featuring a rooftop terrace, whirlpool and two-deck teen space

Hero will take vacationers on 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean adventures from Miami, with every adventure visiting Royal Caribbean’s top-rated Perfect Day CocoCay in The Bahamas. Adventurers can choose to explore Western Caribbean spots like Cozumel, Mexico, and Roatan, Honduras, or head to tropical Eastern Caribbean destinations such as Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, and Philipsburg, St. Maarten.
