  • The standalone roaming breakthrough the GSMA Intelligence analysts are watching closely... T-Mobile US and India's Reliance Jio have launched the world’s first commercial #5GStandalone (SA) international roaming connection. Until now, majority of global 5G roaming was 5G Non-Standalone (NSA), which routes data through legacy 4G core networks. This breakthrough allows travelers to connect directly to pure 5G networks across borders, eliminating 4G bottlenecks. In our latest podcast episode Peter Jarich discusses how this launch goes beyond roaming. SA is designed to support enterprise use cases such as #IoT, #AI and #networkslicing — making this an important step in broader 5G monetisation. • BT Group and the British Transport Police are deploying drone-in-a-box sites across the UK Network Rail, using mobile connectivity to enable remote operations and beyond visual line of sight flights. With seven sites already operating and plans to expand to 14, the deployment highlights how connectivity and regulatory changes could help unlock wider commercial use cases for drones. Tim Hatt discusses how the implications extend beyond transport — from mining to energy and other remote operations where drones can provide a practical alternative to sending people into the field. What does sovereignty mean for telecom operators? The answer extends well beyond any single technology or service. The framework below presents sovereignty across three connected layers: data, infrastructure, and models and applications. Together, these encompass areas ranging from data residency and localisation to cloud, compute, inference, LLMs and AI applications. Operators already have capabilities and relationships that may be relevant across parts of this stack. The extent of the opportunity, and the role operators may choose to play, will vary by market and by layer. Our latest GSMA Intelligence report explores this developing landscape through publicly announced initiatives and industry perspectives. 🎙️ What does it take to own a room? Not a louder voice. Not having the perfect answer. And not walking in without doubt. In Episode Six of #SheShapesAfrica, Caroline Mbugua,HSC,MBA sits down with Kenechi Okeleke, Director, Regional, Social and Policy Research at GSMA Intelligence, for a conversation about presence, confidence and the moments that shape how we show up. Kenechi gets personal about his own journey. From being the five-year-old who would not leave the car at a birthday party, to standing on a stage in Seoul as the only Black person in the room and questioning whether he belonged, to learning that pushing a point too hard can make it harder for people to hear what you are actually saying. His lesson is that presence is not about performing confidence. It comes from preparation. From listening. From understanding the room before trying to influence it. And from knowing that a successful conversation does not necessarily mean changing everyone's mind. “The objective is not to convince everyone. The objective is that you have gotten everybody to listen to you and take your points seriously. If you can achieve that, you have succeeded.” That idea sits at the heart of this episode. You do not need to become the loudest person in the room. You need to trust that you have something worth hearing. 🎥 YouTube: https://lnkd.in/dekFFiXN 🎵 Spotify: https://lnkd.in/dH77w6qe 🎙️ Apple Podcasts: https://lnkd.in/dVYfPh2q Listen to Episode Six of #SheShapesAfrica and take the conversation with you into the next room. #SheShapesAfrica #Presence #Confidence #Leadership #GSMAIntelligence
