Dolly Parton's death

[edit]

I would like to ask this question about the sad death of Dolly Parton. She was a icon and called the Queen of Country Music and may she rest in peace, but there is a some indirect debate on whether her entry is considered notable considering the Wikipedia:How the Current events page works regarding deaths including attempted additions of her entry to Portal:Current events/2026 August 25.

There are exceptions for deaths for Portal:Current events:

  1. Heads of states/governments (ex: Omar Bongo (article), Pope John Paul II (article), John Magufuli (article), and Qaboos bin Said) and even former heads of states/governments (ex: former U.S. presidents, Silvio Berlusconi (article), Robert Mugabe)
  2. Assassinations (ex: Charlie Kirk, Shinzo Abe) and murders (ex: Nipsey Hussle, George Floyd, and both Rob Reiner and his wife)
  3. Famous people who tragically died such as aviation accidents (ex: Kobe Bryant (article), Oliver Tree (article), and Paul Walker)
  4. Famous people who died in combat and wars (ex: Qasem Soleimani, Brent R. Taylor) or were injured in wars (ex: Mona Khalil)
  5. Other deaths, including famous people, that have a significant impact (ex: Michael Jackson (article), Whitney Houston (article), Amy Winehouse)

There is a blurb proposal about Dolly Parton's death on WP:ITN/C that is expected to be approved. She was called the Queen of Country Music. Should Dolly Parton's addition be added or should we hold on to that for now until a news of the significant impact she had appears on the Internet? Are URL examples like this (calls her the queen of country music), this (mentions her impact on Ohio), or this (impact she had on East Tennessee) a good option or should it come from a major news source instead? Or should we wait until the blurb is approved? --~2026-46404-73 (talk) 21:50, 25 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Musée Renoir theft

[edit]

In the sentence "Thieves steal artworks by Pierre Renoir from the Musée Renoir in Cagnes-sur-Mer, Alpes-Maritimes, France. The works had an estimated value of €10 million" there are two problems:

1. The link for Pierre Renoir is incorrect, it lead to Pierre Renoir the stage and film actor, rather than Pierre-Auguste Renoir the impressionist artist.

2. The estimated value is €9 million not €10 million. MrCryptoNerd (talk) 11:01, 8 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

@MrCryptoNerd: Thank you, I've made those changes. Actually, you could have edited the item yourself, as each day's news has an "Edit" link at the top right corner. -- John of Reading (talk) 11:08, 8 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Sudan

[edit]

Please consider adding significant, well-sourced developments from Sudanese civil war to Current events when they meet the usual inclusion criteria, so important developments are not overlooked. Go to Sudan Horizon or Sudan Tribune to find the news itself. ~2026-49039-12 (talk) 03:01, 9 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

@~2026-49039-12 Umm, yes, you can do that. Feel free. Alexysun (talk) 09:28, 18 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

CA state of emergency

[edit]

Is the CA governor declaring a state of emergency in preparation of El Nino something we put on here? Unknownplayr7 (talk) 18:00, 22 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

U2 50th Anniversary Event

[edit]

I'd like to get broader consensus on whether the following event is appropriate for inclusion under Arts and culture for September 25:

U2 marked the 50th anniversary of their formation by returning to Mount Temple Comprehensive School in Dublin, where the members originally met, and performing at the same location on the school grounds where they first performed together in 1976. The event received substantial international news coverage.

The entry was removed on the basis that concerts and commemorative celebrations are generally not included in Current Events. However, I think the unusual nature of this particular anniversary event distinguishes it from a routine concert or similar celebration. It was a one-off event marking 50 years since the band's formation, with the same lineup having remained intact throughout their career, held at the school where they formed, and at the same spot where they first performed together. Given those circumstances and the extent of the news coverage it received, I thought it was a sufficiently noteworthy current event for inclusion, especially considering there is a specific "Arts and culture" category here.

There are also previous examples of concerts being included in Current Events, including Live 8 (2005), Concert for Diana (2007), Live Earth (2007), the 12-12-12 Hurricane Sandy benefit concert (2012), and One Love Manchester (2017). I recognize that several of those had broader circumstances that may distinguish them from this event, and that older examples do not necessarily reflect current consensus.

I'm interested in whether this particular event is considered sufficiently significant for inclusion under current standards. Thoughts? Shkee23 (talk) 20:20, 27 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
