Sudan

[edit]

Please consider adding significant, well-sourced developments from Sudanese civil war to Current events when they meet the usual inclusion criteria, so important developments are not overlooked. Go to Sudan Horizon or Sudan Tribune to find the news itself. ~2026-49039-12 (talk) 03:01, 9 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

@~2026-49039-12 Umm, yes, you can do that. Feel free. Alexysun (talk) 09:28, 18 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

CA state of emergency

[edit]

Is the CA governor declaring a state of emergency in preparation of El Nino something we put on here? Unknownplayr7 (talk) 18:00, 22 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

U2 50th Anniversary Event

[edit]

I'd like to get broader consensus on whether the following event is appropriate for inclusion under Arts and culture for September 25:

U2 marked the 50th anniversary of their formation by returning to Mount Temple Comprehensive School in Dublin, where the members originally met, and performing at the same location on the school grounds where they first performed together in 1976. The event received substantial international news coverage.

The entry was removed on the basis that concerts and commemorative celebrations are generally not included in Current Events. However, I think the unusual nature of this particular anniversary event distinguishes it from a routine concert or similar celebration. It was a one-off event marking 50 years since the band's formation, with the same lineup having remained intact throughout their career, held at the school where they formed, and at the same spot where they first performed together. Given those circumstances and the extent of the news coverage it received, I thought it was a sufficiently noteworthy current event for inclusion, especially considering there is a specific "Arts and culture" category here.

There are also previous examples of concerts being included in Current Events, including Live 8 (2005), Concert for Diana (2007), Live Earth (2007), the 12-12-12 Hurricane Sandy benefit concert (2012), and One Love Manchester (2017). I recognize that several of those had broader circumstances that may distinguish them from this event, and that older examples do not necessarily reflect current consensus.

I'm interested in whether this particular event is considered sufficiently significant for inclusion under current standards. Thoughts? Shkee23 (talk) 20:20, 27 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Proposal to rename portal

[edit]

Hello! I think it's high time that we rename the "Current Events" portal to the "Bus Crash Events" portal since that is the main focus of our coverage. I'm sure our readers will appreciate our explicit dedication to this important topic! Nosferattus (talk) 16:29, 20 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

If you would like to contribute to the portal, each of the subpages can be edited by anyone. Here are links to edit the pages for the last week: October 20, October 19, October 18, October 17, October 16, October 15, and October 14.
If you would like to contribute to the "Topics in the news" section of the portal (the same content as "In the news" section of the Main Page), then please add your comments to the page Wikipedia:In the news/Candidates. —andrybak (talk) 18:59, 20 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Sources

[edit]

Is there any way there can be an informal policy about (not) using sources prior to elections? It isn't like the existence of the elections are difficult to verify away from wiki. I know I try hard to find unbiased cites, which is hard enough when it isn't an upcoming election. And so many times they wind up being other countries' media, with media and locality biases of their own. While I get that a lot of people want those biases (and some are sneaky and subtle), and I know IMHO too many people try to use wiki to cadge people into altering political stances or "picking for them", with AI and gen AI and LLMs being what they are, it seems like a good time to set some priorities.

I would like it if we did not have "sources"/"cites" on election entries til counts are done. And if we could have a policy on what guidelines qualify sites as least biased. Fwiw, no "articles" describing elections probably are.

While this needs to be sorted for "not election" stuff also, this is sort of urgent given how many elections occur (and the upcoming mess).

Thanks. ~2026-58037-85 (talk) 14:48, 1 November 2026 (UTC)Reply

Baseball player image

[edit]

Is it possible to use a different image of William Contreras on the 'Current events' front page? The image used right now is from 4 years ago and is from when he played for the Braves, which is not the team he plays for now nor is it the team that won the World Series. If this is too nitpick-y, then I apologize, but the image just feels misleading. Aleknov (talk) 15:36, 3 November 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Aleknov, please propose your suggestions in the discussion over at Wikipedia:In the news/Candidates#(Posted) 2026 World Series. —andrybak (talk) 15:57, 3 November 2026 (UTC)Reply
