(1st UPDATE) President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. says Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla disclosed DICT chief Henry Aguda's resignation possibly 'because of the investigation that he is conducting'

MANILA, Philippines – President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Sunday, October 11, confirmed that he had accepted the resignation of Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Henry Aguda.

Marcos’ confirmation follows Ombusdman Jesus Crispin Remulla’s disclosure on Saturday, October 10, that Malacañang had accepted Aguda’s resignation.

Remulla mentioned Aguda’s alleged resignation on the show Executive Session on DZRH.

Asked about Aguda’s status, Remulla said “Nag-resign. Tinanggap na ‘yung resignation.” (He resigned. The resignation was accepted.)

Aguda denied resignation rumors last Wednesday, October 7. He said, “I am aware of the reports circulating regarding my position as Secretary of the Department of Information and Communications Technology” and that he continued to serve as the DICT chief.

Marcos said that the Ombudsman “already spilled the beans” possibly “because of the investigation that he is conducting.”

“So we came at that news or that information from different directions and so the timing was not coordinated,” he said.

Aguda and the DICT faced a controversy in the past weeks over the government’s efforts to regulate and block online platforms, including a decision to ban Discord, which was met with a severe backlash from users of the platform, including workers. – Rappler.com
