Jolo Revilla

Jolo Revilla (full political name: Ramon Revilla III; full real name: Jose Lorenzo Hernandez Bautista III) is an actor and politician who is serving as congressman since 2022, representing the 1st District of Cavite.

He was born to what is now Cavite’s largest political dynasty, his parents being Senator Ramon Bong Revilla Jr. and Cavite 2nd District Representative Lani Mercado-Revilla. His older brother Bryan is also in Congress, serving as representative of Agimat party list. His uncle Strike Revilla and aunt Rowena Bautista-Mendiola are the mayor and vice mayor, respectively, of Bacoor, their family’s bailiwick. His first cousin, Gregorio Miguel Bautista Ocampor Jr., is a councilor of Imus, also in Cavite. His grandfather, actor Ramon Revilla Sr., paved the way for the family’s entry into politics, having served as senator from 1992 to 2004.

Jolo entered politics in 2010 when he was elected captain of Barangay Panapaan VII in Bacoor. In the 2013 elections, he ran for vice governor, won in the three-way race, and served for three full terms. After his term ended in 2022, he ran for congressman of the 1st District — the district from which Bacoor (or 2nd District) was carved out — and defeated an Abaya from the family that had controlled the legislative seat for nearly three decades.

While serving as vice governor, he graduated in 2018 with a degree in legal management under the Expanded Tertiary Education Equivalency and Accreditation Program of Lyceum of the Philippines together with other public officials of Cavite. In the same year, he took up a five-day executive education program for emerging leaders at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government. In 2024, he graduated with a master’s degree in sustainable leadership and governance from De La Salle University-Dasmarinas together with his mother and older brother.

He and his relatives in Congress have authored bills that seek to mandate the periodic training of teachers and school personnel on first aid and basic life support, to create rainwater harvesting facilities in development projects in Metro Manila, among others. He abstained during the voting for the absolute divorce bill in 2024, and was one of the authors of the bill that created the Maharlika Investment Fund. He was named Outstanding Congressman by Superbrand Marketing International Inc. in 2024.

Revilla made news in 2015 when he was rushed to the hospital after sustaining a gunshot wound. His family claimed he was cleaning a handgun when it accidentally fired into his chest. His father, who was then detained over charges of plunder in relation to the pork barrel scam, was allowed temporary liberty to be able to visit him in the hospital.
