Vico Sotto

Vico Sotto (full name: Victor Ma. Regis Nubla Sotto) is serving his third and final term as mayor of Pasig City. He was first elected as mayor in 2019. Prior to being mayor, he was part of the city council from 2016 to 2019.

The son of TV and movie personalities Vic Sotto and Coney Reyes, he never wanted to be part of show business. He said he had wanted to work in government since he was 10 years old, partly influenced by his older half-brother LA Mumar, who was taking up development studies.

He graduated from the Ateneo de Manila University in 2011 with a bachelor's degree in political science, and in 2018 with a master's degree in public management. He received in 2018 the YSEALI Professional Fellowship Award and held residency at the Iowa Public Information Board.

Before entering politics, he worked as a legislative staff officer at the Sangguniang Panglungsod of Quezon City from 2013 to 2015, then as a project associate of the Ateneo School of Government, where he focused on the Government Watch and Political Democracy & Reforms projects. He also taught social science at Arellano University for one semester before filing his candidacy.

In beating incumbent mayor Bobby Eusebio during the 2016 election, Sotto ended the Eusebio clan’s 27-year hold on the mayoral seat in Pasig City.

Sotto is known for the reforms he has introduced in the local bureaucracy, regularizing workers who had been on contractual status for decades, eliminating corruption in the procurement process, and ensuring equitable distribution of aid to families. He made headlines closing down erring companies and siding with picketing factory workers.

In 2024, a graft complaint was filed against him and two other city hall officials with the Office of the Ombudsman, alleging that he approved giving a tax discount to a telecommunications company despite supposed inconsistencies in the documents it submitted. The company denied receiving tax discounts from the city government.
