Fall Semester Email Templates

Ready-to-send emails to share with students September-November

Welcome back! Here's one goal to set this academic year: earning the CHES® credential.

Having the CHES® credential shows employers you have met a rigorous national bar across the core areas of health education practice. Many employers actively prefer or require it. In this competitive job market, being able to put CHES® after your name sets you apart and signals that you are serious about this profession for the long haul.

CHES® stands for Certified Health Education Specialist. It is the national, accredited credential from the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing (NCHEC), and it has been the recognized standard in our field since 1989.

Actions to take now:

· Testing in October 2026? Schedule your exam appointment to lock in your preferred date and location.

· Planning for the April exam? The Helen P. Cleary Scholarship can cover your exam fee and study materials, and applications are open September 21-25. It is awarded to students who show financial need and a real commitment to the field, and it is worth every minute of the application.

Not sure where to start? I'd be happy to help you map out a plan.

The best deal of the year is here: early-bird registration for the April CHES® exam is open November 1-30 at the lowest fees available.

If you are wondering whether the CHES® credential is worth it, here is the short version – YES! The Certified Health Education Specialist is the nationally recognized credential in our field, and it is one of the clearest ways to prove your readiness to employers. Many employers prefer or require it. CHES® certification distinguishes you in a crowded job market, and it is a credential you keep and build on for the rest of your career.

Two things that set successful candidates up well: · Develop a study plan --Pick up the Companion Guide, a study resource built around the exam or create a study group with your peers. And keep an eye out for NCHEC’s new study app.

· Sketching out a study plan with a few hours each week over five months keeps the material manageable. Focus on a few Areas of Responsibility at a time.

Reach out if you would like help getting started.

P.S. If your family is looking for birthday or holiday gift ideas – tell them to support your quest for CHES® certification. This is a lifelong gift that keeps giving.

Spring Semester Email Templates

Ready-to-send emails to share with students January-May

As the semester begins, here is a deadline worth acting on: regular registration for the April CHES® exam closes January 31, and the fee increases by $60 after that date.

Be inspired by this story from Efe.  CHES® certification was critical to her success and it could be in yours.

This is also a good moment to settle into a study routine. Aim for roughly 5 to 8 hours a week, and focus on Areas IV and V this month. A steady pace now makes the weeks before the exam far less stressful.

Let me know if you would like help building a study schedule.

This is the final window to register for the April CHES® certification exam. Late registration runs February 1-28, and after that you would have to wait for the next cycle, so if the CHES® credential is your goal, now is the time.

Still asking if it’s worth it? Don’t take just my word for it: read Sara's journey from teaching to epidemiology. Her journey shows that CHES® certification follows you across your career.

Two things to help you feel ready:

  • If you plan to test remotely, attend the remote proctoring webinar so there are no surprises on exam day.

  • Keep your studying on track, with a focus on Areas VI and VII this month.

Happy to answer any questions as the exam approaches.

Good luck to everyone taking the April CHES® exam. You have prepared for this, so trust your work and go in with confidence. Earning your Certified Health Education Specialist credential is a real achievement, and one you will carry throughout your career as proof to employers that you have met the national standard in health education.

And if you are thinking ahead to the October exam, do not miss this: the Helen P. Cleary Scholarship can cover your exam fee and study materials, and applications are due this month. It is awarded to students who show financial need and a genuine commitment to the field, and it is a resume-worthy honor in its own right. It takes only a short application, so it is well worth submitting.

Cheering you on.
