If you'd like, we can attempt to do this ourselves.
I think that before working on a higher-level implementation for the new Microsoft.Extensions.VectorData abstraction, it would be good to have a low-level .NET Chroma client. There's ChromaDB.Client which is an open-source community project, where we've also helped out (specifically Jiri Cincura ↹ (@cincuranet)); but that project is a bit behind and needs to be brought up to date (for example, it's still stuck on the Chroma v1 API, see ssone95/ChromaDB.Client#69).
Ideally, Chroma itself would own its .NET SDK and keep it up to date, similar to other language SDKs - is this something you'd be willing to look into? Once there's a good .NET SDK as foundation, writing a Microsoft.Extensions.VectorData implementation on top of that should be quite easy.

ChromaDB.Client has been brought up to date in ChromaDotNet/ChromaDB.Client: it uses the Chroma v2 API (ssone95/ChromaDB.Client#69), covers all of it, works with Chroma Cloud, and its CI tests it against Chroma 0.4.10 to 1.5.9. ssone95/ChromaDB.Client#84 brings the work back to the original repository.
On top of it, ChromaDotNet/ChromaDB.VectorData implements Microsoft.Extensions.VectorData and runs its conformance tests against Chroma and Chroma Cloud, hybrid search included. It comes with samples for Semantic Kernel and Agent Framework, and CommunityToolkit/AI#57 proposes adding it to the toolkit.
The provider is now in the AI Community Toolkit as CommunityToolkit.VectorData.Chroma (CommunityToolkit/AI#58), built on ChromaDotNet.Client. The C# docs are proposed in MicrosoftDocs/semantic-kernel-docs#459.
There's currently only an IMemoryStore implementation.
