Update the manual workflow default to Python 3.14.8.
The repository now targets Python 3.14.8, but .github/workflows/update-doc-db.yml still defaults its manual python-version input to 3.14.7. A manual run that accepts the default can generate the documentation database for the wrong CPython version.

Remove the newly added test logic
This new assertion block adds test logic to extra_tests/snippets/stdlib_typing.py, while the repository's critical test-code policy permits test-file changes only for adding or removing expected-failure decorators and explicitly forbids modifying assertions, logic, or data. Remove this addition from the test file or change the repository policy first; it cannot land in its current form.

The deletion path truncates the type name to 100 bytes. The assignment-conversion path at Line 3595 truncates to 200 bytes. The PR description and the tests specify a 100-byte limit only for deletion, so the 200 bound may be intentional. The behavior is still easy to misread.
Both blocks repeat the same char-boundary loop. Extract one helper and pass the limit as an argument. This follows the guideline to extract the differing value first and then call the common logic once.

Select Python 3.15 when the current default is older.
If python3 is 3.13 or 3.14, the guard at Lines 14–15 skips this candidate list. Setup leaves the older default in place, and scripts/whats_left.py now exits because it requires 3.15. Change the guard and minimum-version checks to 3.15 as well as preferring python3.15.

Defer stale checks until the parameter cache is materialized
When __typing_subst__ is added before an alias's first parameter lookup, this return treats the parameter as stale even though Python 3.15 has not cached __parameters__ yet. For example, let late.__parameters__ == (T,), create GenericAlias(list, late), set late.__typing_subst__ = lambda x: x, and evaluate alias[int]; Python returns list[int], but PyGenericAlias::new eagerly saved (T,), so late misses tuple_index and this branch raises. Lazily materialize or track the parameter cache so the guard applies only after it was actually cached.

Remove the new GenericAlias test logic
This file introduces 226 lines of new test logic and assertions (including this assertion), but the repository's critical test-code policy permits test-file changes only for adding or removing expected-failure decorators and explicitly forbids modifying assertions, logic, or data. Remove this snippet or revise the policy first; it cannot land under the current repository rules.

Preserve laziness when an alias enters a union
The fresh path after the earlier cache fix is that PyUnion::from_components (crates/vm/src/builtins/union.rs:45-46) still calls this shared helper eagerly, so placing a newly created GenericAlias in alias | int reaches this lookup and materializes the alias cache before either __parameters__ property is requested. For example, create an alias around an argument exposing __parameters__, form the union, then add __typing_subst__; alias[int] now raises the stale-parameter TypeError, while a raising argument descriptor can make alias | int itself fail. Python 3.15 keeps union parameters lazy, so make the union cache lazy instead of forcing nested aliases during construction.

Revert the rewritten recursion test
The stdlib_types.py recursion block now changes when aliases are created and adds assertions against __parameters__ and subscription. The repository's critical test policy permits test-file edits only to add or remove expected-failure decorators and explicitly forbids changing assertions, logic, or data, so this test rewrite must be reverted and the runtime fix made without altering this test body.

Skip custom-metaclass classes before probing typing hooks
When an alias argument is a class with a custom metaclass, the exact arg.class().is(type_type) guard above does not recognize it as a type, so a metaclass that raises while resolving __typing_subst__ now has that exception propagated by this ?; for example, list[C].__parameters__ raises RuntimeError if type(C).__getattribute__ raises for that name. CPython skips every class object here and returns (), while the previous is_ok() path at least swallowed this exception, so use a PyType payload/subclass check before either hook lookup.

Summary
Extract the GenericAlias stale-parameter guard from #8954, matching the Python 3.15.0 reference used by #8950.
An alias argument can gain
__typing_subst__after__parameters__has been cached. Reject that missing parameter with the reference TypeError instead of applying the unrelated fallback substitution path. Existing valid substitution and tuple-result validation are preserved. The unique commit changes native GenericAlias substitution and preserves the original 22-line Python regression in the existing typing snippet.
