Follow-up to #8788. The remaining Python-visible integer names both
RustPython and pyre still published from libc are:

  • SIG* / SIG_BLOCK / SIG_SETMASK / SIG_UNBLOCK
  • pathconf / sysconf _PC_* / _SC_*
  • CLOCK_* module attrs
  • the unix socket integers already exported on Windows (AF_INET,
IPPROTO_*, SO_*, MSG_*, AI_*, SHUT_*, …)

stdlib signal, posix, time, and _socket take those from
host_env. WinSock entry points and unix use libc as c for types and
syscalls stay as they are.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Compatibility
    • Expanded the availability of POSIX configuration, signal, socket, and clock constants across supported platforms, including Windows socket shutdown names.
    • Preserved existing Python-facing constant names and behavior while making additional platform-specific constants available through the host environment.
    • Existing clock, signal, socket, and POSIX configuration values remain unchanged.

Re-export signal numbers, pathconf/sysconf names, clock ids,
and the unix socket integers the VM still took from libc.

signal, posix pathconf/sysconf enums, time clock ids, and the
shared socket pyattrs re-export host_env instead of libc.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The host environment now re-exports platform-gated POSIX, signal, socket, and clock constants. Related standard-library modules use these exports instead of importing the constants directly from libc.

Changes

Host constant exports and consumers

Layer / File(s) Summary
POSIX constants and enum discriminants
crates/host_env/src/posix.rs, crates/vm/src/stdlib/posix.rs
host_env re-exports platform-gated pathconf and sysconf constants. PathconfVar and SysconfVar use these exports for their discriminants.
Signal constants and imports
crates/host_env/src/signal.rs, crates/vm/src/stdlib/_signal.rs
host_env re-exports platform-gated signal constants. The VM signal module imports them from host_env.
Socket constants and imports
crates/host_env/src/socket.rs, crates/stdlib/src/socket.rs
host_env re-exports platform-gated socket constants, including Windows shutdown aliases. The stdlib socket module imports the constants from host_env.
Clock constants and imports
crates/host_env/src/time.rs, crates/vm/src/stdlib/time.rs
host_env re-exports platform-gated clock constants. The VM time module imports them from host_env.

Alias WinSock SD_* as SHUT_* so the shared pyattr names resolve.
Re-export the rest of the libc socket integers the VM still took
from `use libc as c`.

Module integer names come from host_env. Types and syscalls stay
on libc / WinSock.

Assisted-by: Claude
pyattrs now take those names from host_env. Keep only the syscall
names the shared body still reads as c::.

Separate the Fuchsia constants from the host_socket import.

host_socket exports AF_ALG and AF_CAN only on Linux and Android, but this import also compiles on Fuchsia. The Fuchsia build therefore fails with unresolved imports. Import both constants from c on Fuchsia to preserve their existing #[pyattr] exports.
