List of paintings of John Adams

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

John Adams was a Founding Father of the United States, lawyer, political activist and the country's second president, serving from 1797 to 1801, and was preceded by George Washington in 1797 and succeeded by Thomas Jefferson in 1801.[1]

Adams died on July 4, 1826, at age 90, the same day as Thomas Jefferson, with his last words being "Thomas Jefferson survives", not knowing that Jefferson died hours before him.[2][3]

Adams was painted a significant amount due to painters needing his likeness to record the nation's history; it was also due to cameras not being invented until 1816.[4]
