What's new in the RC since the beta? A couple of things, but worth calling out are
- A rebuilt `--watch` mode
- Stability improvements across the board
- New ported editor features
- Strategies for using less memory in editors
The rebuilt `--watch` mode is powered by a Go port of Parcel's watcher, giving TypeScript 7 efficient, stable cross-platform file watching.
Expect much less CPU usage on idle.
Editor support has come a long way since we first debuted: auto-imports, expandable hovers, inlay hints, code lenses, JSX linked editing, semantic highlighting, sort imports, remove unused imports, and more are now available.
Not yet mentioned in the blog post: TypeScript 7.0 will release unused type-checkers in the editor after enough idle time. For bigger projects, this should help reduce memory usage after peaking.
Speaking of which: TypeScript 7 also brings more parallelism to builds.
ℹ️ Some tips ℹ️
`--checkers` controls the number of type-checking workers, while `--builders` controls parallel project-reference builds.
Use more on powerful machines, or scale down to fewer to control
For teams moving gradually, `tsc` from TypeScript 7 can run side-by-side with the `tsc6` executable & API from TypeScript 6 using the new `@typescript/typescript6` package.
