Very excited to start chatting about what I have been building over the past year during my nights and weekends with @jacobwgillespie 🎉 Depot is a remote Docker build service that is 2-3x faster than `docker build` ⚡️ blog.kylegalbraith.com/2022/04/30/dep…

this is a nice write up. improving performance of ci is not just in the macro things, it’s details as well.

in our case it was a lot of very specific things to our setup: - we already have a "typecheck" step in the CI, so disabling it in "next build" speeds it up - we use `minimumReleaseAge` from pnpm, checking it in the CI is a waste of time if the hash for the lockfile stays the same

i'm going to just start sending people blog posts like this when people have any question about how much we give a fuck. apt should not be 1/5 of your ci job. so we went and built our own mirrors. taking the average step from 19s down to less than 3s.
We built an Ubuntu mirror and then made it faster
