What happens in the first 48 hours of a cyberattack? Christopher O'Rourke, Director of Cloudforce One R.E.A.C.T. at Cloudflare, joins Triad Technology Partners for a candid conversation about why smaller organizations are often prime targets, how attackers use local entities to reach larger networks, and what organizations can do before chaos begins. They also discuss DDoS attacks, AI-powered threats, incident response, transparency, and why security is ultimately a team sport. If you think your organization is too small to be targeted, this conversation is for you. It’s not too late to stop by Cloudflare’s booth 1646 at #EDUCAUSE! Come connect with our team to learn how Cloudflare helps higher ed organizations secure users, devices, applications, data, and AI across campus. #Cloudflare #HigherEd #ZeroTrust
Reflecting on EDUCAUSE so far this week, one theme dominated every conversation with higher ed IT leaders: "We’re heavily invested in Microsoft 365 and Copilot—so how do we govern everything Copilot DOESN'T touch?" While M365 covers the native stack, campus environments face Shadow AI, BYOD devices, third-party agents, and strict FERPA demands. Here is how Cloudflare secures the gaps: 1️⃣ CASB: Gain visibility into Copilot exposure risks and integrate directly with Microsoft Purview sensitivity labels. https://lnkd.in/gZ7R46kY 2️⃣ DLP: Maintain FERPA compliance inline. Use Exact Data Match (EDM) on hashed Student IDs to prevent data leaks across web, SaaS, and AI prompts. https://lnkd.in/gFrhrUwj 3️⃣ SWG: Secure non-M365 web traffic and enforce Tenant Control to restrict unauthorized personal M365 tenants on campus networks. https://lnkd.in/giB94rt3 4️⃣ Access / ZTNA: Replace legacy VPNs with identity-aware access. Integrates natively with Entra ID, automates via SCIM, and enforces MFA with or without the IdP. https://lnkd.in/gvmTjHa9 5️⃣ MCP Server Portal: Govern agentic AI with WriteGuard to attribute agent actions to human context alongside our new adaptive security framework. https://lnkd.in/esXXC3SM 6️⃣ Email Security: Catch advanced phishing native filters miss and inspect internal east-west email between compromised campus accounts. https://lnkd.in/guU887pH 7️⃣ AI Prompt Protection & Gateway: Guard non-Copilot AI (ChatGPT, Claude) and use new AI Gateway User Insights to track AI adoption across campus. https://lnkd.in/g4Y4r5KS 8️⃣ Remote Browser Isolation (RBI): Execute untrusted web code in the cloud to protect unmanaged student devices from zero-day exploits. https://lnkd.in/gWGCsErR 9️⃣ Edge DNS Security: Block malware C2 traffic and automate DMCA copyright violation mitigation across campus Wi-Fi and dorms. https://lnkd.in/gPetC_7c 🔟 Cloudflare OS: A reference architecture providing higher ed IT actionable blueprints for agentic AI and Zero Trust modernization. https://lnkd.in/g4pChBt7 Gina Myers Will Payne Sarah Johannes Eric Lewis Sangeeta Dhir Gwyneth Canfield Joshua R Wesley Daniel Seffens Matthew Boknevitz Paige Budde Natalie Pickrom Julie Dang Lauren B. #EDUCAUSE #Cloudflare #BirthdayWeek

NEW: It’s Cloudflare’s Birthday Week and we have lots of post-quantum updates! As we move to make Cloudflare post-quantum ready by 2029, we’ve run into big questions every large organization could eventually face: Where is cryptography hiding in our code? Is our production traffic actually using PQ encryption? Can an attacker downgrade a protocol away from PQ cryptography? How will PQ signatures scale across the Internet? Today we’re sharing one specific answer to each of these big questions. These include: 🔍 Adventures in discovering cryptography across our codebase, along with lessons learned. (Spoiler: AI was used. Heavily. See image below.) 📈 New telemetry for measuring adoption of PQ encryption in production for domains behind Cloudflare. (Now GA!) ⚔️ An IETF draft that protects IPsec from quantum downgrade attacks. (Now in beta with our Cloudflare IPsec product!) 📜 Plans for a public certificate authority that supports Merkle Tree Certificates for PQ authentication at Internet scale. (Yes, I did say a new CA!) Exciting work from many different people, including my two awesome interns Tiago Vieira da Silva and Sophie Park. Links to all four must-read blogs below!
