Attackers are changing how they turn exposure into access. Security leaders need to know where their organizations are vulnerable and be ready to act quickly. In my October CXO Monthly Roundup, I examine: 🔍 Vulnerabilities and Zero-Days: What vulnerabilities like PHP2Shell and HTTP2Shell mean for enterprise security and why organizations need to identify exposed systems quickly. 🤖 Global AI attacks using ARTEX: How a Chinese threat actor targeted global organizations in South Korea, Japan, the United States, India, Canada, and more, using the ARTEX pentesting framework powered by multiple open source models. ⚒️ North Korean APT attack using a trojanized Terraform provider: A campaign that abuses trusted developer workflows to deliver cross-platform malware and steal sensitive data. 🔐 SEO poisoning leading to Armorsteal: How poisoned search results lead users to fake software installation websites that deliver credential-stealing malware. Zscaler reposted this
The almost daily headlines around new vulnerabilities, compromised software updates, exposed credentials, and so much more had some calling last month "Black October." All of this driven by AI. It was the busiest I have been in nearly 20 years at Zscaler, with new AI-driven threats exposing legacy systems and organizations on an increasingly rapid basis. It was also the busiest I have been in a single month engaging with media, analysts, and customers because of how fast everything was evolving in cybersecurity. October has long been recognized as Cybersecurity Awareness Month. This past month, more than any previous one in any previous year, everyone became aware of the importance of cybersecurity. AI is powerful and AI is dangerous, if unchecked. It is a refrain I have said in nearly every conversation recently. Never has it been more apparent for organizations to install a Zero Trust architecture. I go deeper in this article about what that means, and how AI can be an accelerator for any business if security is built in from the outset:

T-Mobile's new cybersecurity report provides an inside look at how they're strengthening security at scale. By adopting a zero trust approach — where every user, device, and application must be continuously verified — T-Mobile is strengthening protection across its environment with the Zscaler Zero Trust Exchange platform. Since implementation: 🔎 160M+ transactions inspected this quarter ⛔️ 6M+ online threats blocked since launch Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eHVz_QNh
Cyber threats keep evolving. The security behind your business has to keep pace. As adversaries adjust their tactics, businesses have more reason to look closely at the security behind the connectivity, systems, and data they depend on. Our new report, “Advancing Cybersecurity at T-Mobile," provides a closer look at how we’re strengthening security across our network and operations, helping businesses manage cyber risk, and working with the broader security ecosystem. Zscaler ThreatLabz uncovered a suspected TraderTraitor campaign that uses a trojanized Terraform provider to deliver FLATROOF and ROOFDECK: https://lnkd.in/ggEQRxEf The FLATROOF backdoor deploys cross-platform Python scripts to steal sensitive data from the victim before ultimately dropping the ROOFDECK backdoor to gain full remote control.

Modern attackers don't rely on obvious typos or loud ransom screens. They use AI, message leaders directly inside tools like Microsoft Teams, and quietly steal data without ever locking a device. What to do instead: ➡️ Talk to decision-makers ➡️ Practice chat-based attacks ➡️ Cut off lateral movement ➡️ Reward fast reporting Assume someone will eventually click the wrong link, and design your access rules so that one mistake cannot bring down the business. 🏁 “Don’t treat AI adoption and security as separate tracks.” - Zscaler Chief Product Officer, Adam Geller. In this episode of #SecuringSpeed, learn about the AI security risks leaders are still underestimating, especially when AI is layered onto fragmented environments with inconsistent visibility, policy, and access controls. The advantage goes to leaders who build security into the foundation early — so innovation can move faster without adding risk.
