Sally Wentworth

As president and CEO of the Internet Society and Internet Society Foundation, Sally leads both organizations in building and defending an Internet for everyone. She has been with the Internet Society for more than 17 years and became CEO in 2024.

Prior to joining the Internet Society, Sally worked at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and the U.S. Department of State. These experiences helped shape her lifelong passion for strengthening dialogue between policymakers and the Internet technical community.

Sally strongly believes in the Internet as a resource for social and economic development and takes a people-first approach to her work. As CEO, she engages with the community on critical issues affecting the Internet and champions the life-changing, global impact of the Internet Society’s work.

Organizational Priorities and CEO’s Role

The CEO is responsible for the day-to-day conduct of the Internet Society’s activities, guided by the Internet Society and Internet Society Foundation Board of Trustees. The CEO serves as President and a nonvoting member of the Internet Society and Foundation boards and as Trustee and President of the Connected Giving Foundation.

The CEO also serves as a liaison to the PIR Board of Directors and appoints the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) nomination committee’s chair.

In consultation with the CEO, the Internet Society board establishes long-term strategic goals for the Internet Society and Foundation. The CEO presents annual action plans and budgets designed to achieve these goals.

The current five-year strategy sets two overarching goals:

  1. People everywhere have access to affordable, reliable, and resilient Internet.
  2. People everywhere have an Internet experience that is safe, secure, and protects them online.
