About
CHOMPI is now
Open Source!
We’ve decided it’s time to discontinue CHOMPI. We won’t be manufacturing any more units, and instead are Open Sourcing the files for our CHOMPI Club Community to keep exploring.
Our team put together a video to chat through the process, give some insight, and bid farewell to this little friend.
What does it mean?
We put together a whole hub of CHOMPI Open Source info to dive into. But the TLDR version is this:
-
In short, the manufacturing landscape for CHOMPI has changed significantly (as it has for many small instrument makers). It was becoming too expensive and time-consuming to find a way to build CHOMPI that would still be compatible for current customers. So we’ve decided to discontinue CHOMPI, but make it open source so that the community can continue to explore and build on the platform.
-
firmware/chompi-tape: TAPE 2.0, the sampler firmware every CHOMPI ships with.
firmware/chompi-tempo: TEMPO 1.0, a pattern generator firmware — the counterpart to TAPE.
firmware/chompi-wave: WAVE 1.0, a wavetable synth firmware that doubles as a starting point for anyone writingtheir own firmware.
firmware/chompi-bootloader-v6.4-beta: The bootloader. Never shipped on units, which run v6.2; created to improve stability.
firmware/card-profiles: The factory microSD card contents for TAPE, TEMPO and WAVE — firmware, samples and settings.
hardware/hardware-pcb: Schematic, BOM, EAGLE PCB files, and the full fabrication package.
hardware/hardware-enclosure: The six PCB panel enclosure files, as well as laser cutting files for DIY panels.

Open source files all live on our CHOMPI GitHub
The Open Source page will walk through important details. There is also a quick link to download the CHOMPI WAVE beta firmware too.
We are not providing customer support for Open Source projects, or CHOMPI’s developed / made by 3rd parties. Check out the Open Source channel for community discussion on our Chase Bliss Discord.
-
As we close this chapter of manufacturing for CHOMPI, this is a hand-off to the community.
We will continue to provide ongoing support for CHOMPI customers.
We will be hosting the conversations on our Chase Bliss Discord, but not providing support for Open Source projects.
It’s up to you now.
We won’t be doing repairs or support on any CHOMPI’s not made by CHOMPI Club or Chase Bliss.
So what does this all mean for the future of CHOMPI?
This doesn’t mean we’ll never make something in the CHOMPI world again. We really do love this little pal, but for now this chapter feels complete.
Key info to know:
-
This is the final run of this version of CHOMPI. Once the stock is sold out, it will be officially retired. We currently have a small handful of CHOMPIs left at the Chase Bliss hubs the US, EU, Japan, and Australia, and won’t be re-stocking once they’re gone.
-
We’re carrying the ethos and passion for self expression behind CHOMPI into new projects we’re working on at Chase Bliss. We love our customers, and will continue to support past and current CHOMPI owners. We’re just not making any more of these.
That is a big part of why we Open Sourced CHOMPI. It’s been something we’ve wanted to pursue since the early days of CHOMPI, but some development and manufacturing limitations complicated that endeavor. Which is why we’re pretty jazzed about being able to open this up to the community now. CHOMPI exists largely in part from the support of our music, art, and education communities and we’re really happy we can pour back into those spaces. Our hope is that this provides pathways and foundations for students and educators to explore what's possible, and hopefully inspire the next generation of developers and instrument makers.
Our CHOMPI Club community is still active on the Chase Bliss Discord and you are welcome to join the fun!

Short answer: YES! We are continuing to provide customer support, repairs, and questions as normal for all past and current CHOMPI owners. We’re still facilitating repairs at our Chase Bliss hubs, and we care about helping people enjoy their CHOMPIs for years to come.
We’ve merged CHOMPI Support into the Chase Bliss ecosystem. That means all CHOMPI owners now have international support, and it will be faster and easier than ever to get help. We care a lot about our CHOMPI pals, and this will make your support experience even better.
All support (questions, repairs, etc.) are being handled by us and our Chase Bliss teammates! If you need help, feel free to submit a Support Ticket or email us at chompi@chasebliss.com
We’ve also transitioned our original CHOMPI Discord over to the Chase Bliss Discord, and we’ve made some new resources to help you along the way!
*Important to note: we will NOT be providing comprehensive support for Open Source projects however. We won’t be able to repair or support any custom made CHOMPI replicas or firmwares not manufactured by us.
If you create something new using our Open Source files, that’s awesome! But just know, that is now up to you to support.

From the very beginning, CHOMPI has been an unconventional and often wild ride. We feel so grateful to everyone who has joined us on this journey, who supported our Kickstarter, welcomed us into the Chase Bliss world, got excited and inspired to make music with us, and taken CHOMPI around the globe to places we never imagined possible. If you’re reading this, you’re part of the “Club” and we’re glad you’re here.
We’re still here, we still love our CHOMPIs, and love seeing the myriad of creative things you all do with them. CHOMPI isn’t dead, just evolving and growing into new spaces. Thanks for supporting us, we’re excited to bring you into the next chapters.
Big love friends,❤︎ Chelsea & Tobias

As electronic music enthusiasts, we endeavor to craft inclusive culture and empower new learners, making the world of sound design more accessible to a larger audience.
What started out as a personal journey to explore a more experimental form of music, grew into a community program, an education initiative, and now more than 10 years later has evolved into a unique musical instrument platform.
