Scream Factory: Upcoming Blu-ray Release of Bob Brooks' Tattoo Canceled
Posted June 25, 2020 11:59 PM by
Scream Factory has announced that its upcoming Blu-ray release of Bob Brooks' thriller Tattoo (1981) has been canceled. According to a statement issued by the label, currently there are no suitable elements for a new master that can be used to source a Blu-ray release.
Scream Factory's complete statement:
"We hate to break bad news but our previously announced Blu-ray release of the 1981 thriller TATTOO has been cancelled.
We're sincerely sorry for getting hopes up for anyone who was interested in the release. (We were excited about it too.) Unfortunately, it was discovered later in our production process that we did not have usable film elements to create a new and suitable HD master. If any developments that are promising on that front surfaces in the future, we'll put it back on the schedule and re-announce.
If you pre-ordered through us directly on our site, our customer service department has issued refunds as of today. Please allow for up to 5 business days for them to be processed."
Wow. That was unexpected. If Shout Factory says they couldn't find any elements that even THEY would release, you know that stuff must have been B-A-D.
Well that's too bad, I've always enjoyed Maud Adams and I'd never seen this. From the synopsis, it sounds like it would be right up my alley. Hopefully they find better elements and can give it another go.
I love shout factory and they have always been a good company, but this smells bad. Something going on here with this film, is it being targeted or banned in some way ?
@shane1344
I believe it is. Scream/Shout Factory have really become suspect lately as they have a HUGE Black Lives Matter notice on their homepage, along with notices about the Coronavirus crap hindering their shipping times... an extremely non-PC film like this probably is not worthy of their time or restoration as they likely feel it endorses a culture of men dominating women.
Either way, Scream/Shout Factory has really been slipping over the last year: from their lame new artist designs of classic films, to their re-releases of mediocre movies with several copies of them already in existence - they really are not the top tier company that they used to be.
Same thing happened with VCI releasing The Phantom Creeps. They had pre-orders up last year (mine's still in) before noticing their print was bad. They didn't cancel though, just delayed it until they could source better elements from Sony/Columbia. Lesson: Don't offer pre-orders for a film you haven't even scanned yet.
Just wanted to say there are some real PC saps on this site too: a few of my posts as well as several others from yesterday on this board are now mysteriously missing... 🤷♂️🙄
Shout Factory,
Do NOT offer a pre-order before scanning and completing a release. It's unprofessional to tell the public you've got something to offer without checking to see if you can even offer it.
@MikeK84 I agree with you 100%. A few days ago I posted a response to Song of the South in the forums, and my post suddenly disappeared completely. The smells fishy as well. Even though I have no interest in this film, it seems like Shout! Factory is taking a knee for this nonsense our countrys going through. I thought that SF wouldnt let this happen. It just plainly looks theyre siding with the far left. I wont be surprised if this post gets deleted. Shame on you Shout! Factory if youre giving in to this nonsense.
I also noticed that the Song of the South post has been taken down. How convenient that this all of a sudden has happened. Is blu-ray.com being made to police the forum members as well? Looks that way to me.
To all my fellow members of this site. I firmly believe that this announcement is a direct result to the whole . Cultural Erasing movement that the left whats to happen. I really hope that this site and Shout! Factory arent just giving in and taking a knee to these left wing extremists. I really hope to be proven wrong. I really hope so.
@Panther73, I completely agree with you. It's a sad time in our country when great movies like Gone with the Wind, Mary Poppins, and the legendary John Wayne, are being erased by people who don't even know what real film is. It's horrible to think Fahrenheit 451 and 1984 have come to pass. The thought police will take our movies away.
@shane1334, I hope Im wrong about this being canceled. Like I said in my earlier post, I dont have any interest in buying this, but if turns out to true, Ill NEVER buy another Shout! Factory release EVER. This why I havent totally abandoning physical media because of things like this can certainly happen. Dont get me wrong, I do some streaming, but this kind of thing can certainly happen, and its happening right now. Its a total travesty in all aspects. I just recently bought two additional copies of Gone With the Wind recently, and I have no regrets doing it. Im happy to see that others like yourself can stand and scream at the left and say that this will not stand! Its comforting to know that Im not only angered by this and realize that Im not the only one as well. Preserve our film heritage, not destroy it!
I vaguely remember this on cable back in the day. Movies like these are made, then fade away and are never heard from again, released on video or played on TV or cable. You end up totally forgetting about them. Al Pacino's "Cruising" was another horror film that I had forgotten about. It is the good thing that our cable got shut off before that one came on! I was horrified seeing it as an adult, and I would have been left mentally damaged if I had seen that as a child!
I know this, all of these fake events going on today is to put an end to the concept of the USA - freedom of the people. This is what the JFK murder/coup was all about. Jack Ruby (the only man caught killing anyone that weekend!) did say that: "...A whole new form of government has taken over." Those words are intentionally ignored by 'history,' but anyone with common sense should have know that it was true when a president is shot down and someone else is forced into his position. If JFK died via a heart attack - different story.
All of this censorship (in THIS country!) is a problem and they use these fake riots and controlled opposition organizations as the excuse to revise history via mob control and on the take politicians who hate the USA. I say, for better or worse, never start lying (even more so) about history and trying to censor! They won't censor porn, snuff films, horror films or films where many people get killed like a person eating popcorn - yet they want to censor anything that goes against their global, imperial agendas? The odd part is, Hollywood used to be the opposite of what they are promoting now, although the mainstay was always racism and racial stereotypes against blacks/native Americans and Asians. There were even stereotypes against Italians, latinos, gays and others. Now, they try to act as if because they say so, that everyone are best buddies and loving!
Censorship means that you are trying to hide things and brainwash the public. In Communist China - ok, but in the US - no. There is a reason you keep seeing so many British people/things in not only movies, but US TV and politics. They are trying to merge nations together under false anger about a guy (George Floyd) whose 'killing' was not even violent, and no racism was observed by me. Keep in mind that i'm black. We could have peace on earth - if the governments would stop terrorizing the people!
Why are so many people thinking this is a political correctness issue, rather than it simply being what they claimed [usable elements]? I haven't seen this film in a long time, so I only partially recall the details, but considering all of the far more objectionable films that have come out, and are continuing to come out, shutting this title down doesn't really make sense.
