Stephen Colbert - Ben & Jerry's Americone Dream

The journey to greatness is seldom a straight line. There are left and right turns, detours and double-backs. However, for Stephen Colbert, heir to Letterman’s Late Show throne, the direction has always been up.

From his Daily Show debut in 1999 to the start of The Colbert Report on October 17, 2005, Colbert continued to make us laugh. His quirky, irreverent, left-of-center right-wing punditry struck a chord with us. If ever there was a perfect cable news match for a Ben & Jerry’s flavor, Stephen Colbert was it.

Planning for Americone Dream began in fall of 2006. We tinkered, toyed, and played until we perfected Stephen’s personal mix of vanilla ice cream with fudge covered waffle cone pieces and a caramel swirl. There was no way a flavor this euphoric could stay secret, and it wasn’t long before word got out. Rumor became reality when Stephen invited two very special guests to The Colbert Report on March 5, 2007:

The Colbert crowd received Ben and Jerry with open arms. Many people in the audience were already huge fans of our ice cream, and this latest flavor helped cement a place for us in their hearts (and stomachs).

A lesser man may have ended the show right there, but Stephen Colbert is anything but a lesser man. If anything, he’s a moster man, which says a lot since that’s not even a real word. Before the end credits started rolling, Stephen channeled his inner Oprah and handed out pints of Americone Dream to every single person in attendance:
