Oscar-winning composer Michael Giacchino (The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Cars 2, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, Star Trek, Super 8, Star Trek Into Darkness) has signed on to score Universal’s 2015 dino blockbuster Jurassic World.
In 2010 Giacchino added an Academy Award win for his Up score to his nomination for 2007′s Ratatouille. He’s also garnered an Emmy, a BAFTA, a Golden Globe, two Grammys, and numerous other awards over the course of a prolific career that began in video games and took off with his work on JJ Abrams‘ Alias and LOST. His all-new Jurassic World score will weave in iconic themes from John Williams’ classic Jurassic Park score, similar to what he did with the music for Abrams’ Star Trek and Star Trek: Into Darkness.
The fourth film in the Jurassic Park series is being helmed by Colin Trevorrow from his script with Derek Connolly and is set to star Bryce Dallas Howard, Chris Pratt, Vincent D’Onofrio, Irrfan Khan, and French thesp Omar Sy (The Intouchables). Jurassic World brings Giacchino full circle, as one of his first gigs was scoring the Steven Spielberg-produced Warpath: Jurassic Park vidgame based on 1997′s The Lost World: Jurassic Park. Giacchino’s upcoming scores include those for Jupiter Ascending, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and Tomorrowland. He’s repped by The Gorfaine/Schwartz Agency.

Amazing news! His music is warm, touching, and adds an extra dimension to a character’s journey.
How can you have a Jurassic Park movie without John Williams doing the score?!?!?
Look no further than 2001′s JURASSIC PARK III, which was scored by MATRIX composer Don Davis.
The question still stands. How can you have a Jurassic Park movie without John Williams. The memory of JP3 should gracefully fade into nothingness.
He’s a great talent. Too bad it is being used in this umpteenth reboot of the Jurassic franchise which seems about as old as the dinosaurs.
“Upteenth reboot’”? As far as I know, this is the ONLY reboot, which is only partially true considering it’s still a sequel to the previous films. And the franchise is only 20 years old, and still has a ton of life left in it.
I want to visit your alternate universe where there have been umpteen Jurassic Park films, instead of mine which is only coming up on our fourth.
I look forward to his bludgeoning, repetitive music.
His one of the best right now. You have no taste.
Rob It’s called Jurassic Park 3….or is that your point? Haha.
Sweet. He is the one guy I would like to see do Star Wars if john Williams can’t.
Such a talented guy. Looking forward to hearing what he comes up with.
Ryan, I agree, he’s done some amazing work. If John can’t do it, I’m glad it’s Michael.
Love this guy. One of the few likeable things about JJ’s STAR TREK is actually the score.
Cool! Let’s hope Michael Giacchino would incorporate original music themes by John Williams, just as Don Davis did for “Jurassic Park III.”
Wait! Giacchino IS incorporating original music themes.
Without John Williams, Michael Giacchino would be my only option, this is one of the best news around Jurassic World. He has done a masterful job with the Star Trek score. I’m sure he’ll do as well, knowing how much he respects John Williams.
