Cognizant centre in Ireland

Our Bureau

BANGALORE: Cognizant Technologies Solutions (CTS) is setting up a ``near shore'' development centre (neither offshore nor onsite, but somewhere in between) in Limerick, Ireland.

The new centre is part of the company's international expansion plans. CTS took a slightly different route to set up the centre. It purchased the assets of UnitedHealthcare Ireland Ltd, a subsidiary of the UnitedHealthcare group.

The company's 70 strong staff offering software development, maintenance, and support will now be part of Cognizant Technology Solutions, Ireland. This was a model that companies such as EDS and IBM have been doing for a long time, though this is the first time a company out of India had done it, said Mr Ramkumar, Chief Knowledge Officer.

The Ireland centre will also service the European as well as the North American markets. The centre will also serve the company's business continuity plans. At least as far as the mission critical applications were concerned, the company was ready to double bandwidth and see that there was no break in continuity, Mr Ramkumar said.
