"In Macedonia from the 7th c. BC until late antiquity"

The exhibition In Macedonia from the 7th c. BC until late antiquity highlights aspects of the public and private life of the ancient Macedonians. It covers the Archaic period up until the 3rd c. AD, i.e., from the creation of the Kingdom of Macedon until the Roman period. The exhibition is articulated into internal spaces, corresponding to thematic sub-units: the economy, political and social organization, worship, war, death, daily life, commerce, and the arts. Most of the exhibits here come from the prefectures of Thessaloniki, Pieria, Kilkis and the Chalkidiki; some of the objects exhibited are on public display for the first time. Interactive touch-screen multimedia applications introduce the visitor to the form and functions of ancient Macedonian cities and Macedonian tombs. A video presents modern theatrical productions of ancient drama, and, for the first time ever, the visitor has the chance to listen to an ancient melody, following the transcription of the musical symbols from a 3rd c. BC inscription found in Vrasna (Thessaloniki).
