At the very least, Miley Cyrus is honest.

During a radio interview with “The Bert Show,” Miley Cyrus said she already knows the kind of comments that can be elicited from a mere mention of her name.

“If you say ‘Miley Cyrus,’ there’s going to be some type of bad press or controversy that comes with it,” the actress/singer said. “It’s just part of where I am in my life right now....It’s like when Hilary Duff started growing up off the Disney channel, everyone thought she was anorexic...just because when she goes out she doesn't look like a 12-year-old anymore. It's the same thing."

Well, Cyrus certainly no longer looks 12, as she proved in her latest music video for her single “Can’t Be Tamed.” But she maintains that nothing she does is for shock value.

“It’s written for someone my age – if you go to a high school, no one is singing about happiness and rainbows and butterflies all the time,” she said. When it comes to her selection of movie roles, she's “doing real high school parts which include real high school things. When people look…at what high school nowadays is, it’s not exactly what you always see on the Disney channel…the movies that I’m choosing are a little more realistic.”

Speaking of school: the 17-year-old added that she’s not planning on applying to any colleges. “I’m a firm believer that you can go back at any age you want, because my Grandma went back to college at 62," Cyrus said. "For right now, I really want to focus on my career. I've worked hard to get to where I am now, and I want to enjoy it while it lasts."

Just saw video of Untame. Dejuv of Brtney spears. It is the last time my daughter will have anything of hers. Indeed she has grown up to be an example of what not to be as a young lady. It is disappointing to see someone so talent wasted. The entertainment world has enough Britney Spears & Lohan

Of course it is. That's what most of the young talent is about these days. Look at Gaga and now Christine Agulara who has actual talent but has resorted to putting on a rubber suit and crawling around a stage. Miley is no different.

Wow! I think she should go to college first before she focus entirely on her career

Smart Move. Most entertainers who start out young then go to college early usally lose momentium and end up never regaining their prior success. By focusing on her career now, she is open to go to college at a later date, when things slow down or when she feels she has to slow down. By then she will have enough money to never work again should she choose to do so. Besides the main reason for going to college is to increase your earning potential. Miley's earning potential is already about as high as it can get, so her only reason for going would be personal expansion of her knowlege into an area she isn't already experienced with.

Really? Because I was thinking Brooke Shields, Jodie Foster, Emma Watson and Nathalie Portman. All went to college and yet had pretty decent careers. An intelligent, well-rounded performer is more marketable. Alternately, if the entertainment career doesn't pan out, you're left with an education.

Well, Miley is worth over 100,000,000 US Dollars, so where is the need to go to college? She has learned more than i had learned after i had 4 years of college. And, look at all the people who look up to her as a role model. I have two, my children. She could quite now and would never have to work again, nor would her children, their children and their children...

College is for broke people who dont know what they want to do with their life. Miley is already rich so I guess the only reason she'd need to go is for the knowledge. But I have no idea what she'd want to study. Like music, for instance, she's already made it. She's almost 18. Thats hardly a child when you think about it. Cant be tamed isn't all that bad as I thought it would be. She jus seems to be slipping away from her disney channel image which is good. And lets be real. She probably does work hard. Give her some credit. It isn't easy being famous and impressing strangers 24-7.

Why should she go to college? She's already got a career and if she decides to go later, good for her. My only wish is that she stops with the damn peace sign.

l'm a huge fan of Miley's.What l admire about her,is the fact that she knows her own mind.Miley has more itelligence that most ppl twice her age, because she's grown up in an adult world. There's far too many ppl out there that think they know whats best for her,but l don't think she's done too bad,so far.l've got complete confidence that Miley knows exactly what she wants out of life.Miley is a gd person.l think miley has got too much sense to go the way of (shall l say, others before her).l have so much respect for miley, she remains grounded,& true to herself, while others have gone off the rails.Miley has the love of her family,& l will always be a fan of hers, simply because l believe in her.God bless you miley,ur amazing.l personally love to see miley doing the peace sign,it still shows me,that in amonst all the glitzy lifestyle that goes with being a celebrity, she still believes in god,& whats gd & wholesome.Well done miley,& thnx for just being you.Miley is the most beautiful girl, both inside & out, that has ever walked this earth.PeaceXX

I have grown to like this girl, and guess what – I believe her. Spears was on the cover of Rolling Stone at 16 looking pretty "shocking" ..... that is entertainment.

  14. Mom of a Miley Fan

I am a Mom of an 11 year old Miley fan. I have not yet seen her new video, however, my daughter has and she was very upset by it. She thought it was inappropriate and tasteless. There are ways to show you are growing up and not just a Disney personality without going to the extreme. Her parents need to giving her a little more guidance. I also wonder what her little sister thinks of the video.

Guess what Mom, she's not the same little 14 year old that started on Hannah Montana. How many times does she need to say it. Why do you expect her to continue to "play" that character? She's NOT Hannah Montana. There's plenty of other stars of the moment your daughter can latch onto, so relax. Stop trying to tell Miley's parents how to raise their kids. I'll bet anything that Miley's little sister is just fine with what she's doing. Hypocrites!

Miley is comparing herself to Hilary Duff. I don't recall HIllary Duff doing anything as racy as that Can't Be Tamed video when she left Disney. I watched the video on VH1 this weekend and was shocked. She is shown in quite compromising positions with both men and women while in a very scanty feathered costume. She's not quite reached the level of Christina Aguilera's Dirty but it's only Miley's first video. I hate to see what comes next. It's another bad celebrity example that young teens and tweens are going to look to as what society expects of them. Hillary Duff has maintained her dignity and poise and serves as a good example for young ladies. Miley is heading down the Britney road.

Amusing how people think Miley should concentrate on career over college since she has millions. Let's not forget as she follows Britney, Lohan, she may be worth nothing in a few years after after payin off DUI, Rehab etc charges. She is just another no-talent no brainer spandex-wearing 'entertainer'. Her, Lady Gaga, Beyonce just to name a few are trying to outdo each other by over-the-top outfits & videos. It's not about the music anymore.

what she has to realize, like a lot of these other "stars" is that the people buying her albums are middle school aged girls... adults aren't listening to her stuff. She needs to be aware that young girls are looking up to her bad example... sorry, comes with the territory!

Bad example? It's a freaking music video, and she has no obligation to set an example for others anyway. It's the children's parents' jobs to teach them how to be model citizens and good people in general, not some celebrity whose only contact with them might be a high five on the way to the stage or maybe a few minutes of idle chit-chat via a backstage pass. I'm a huge fan of hip-hop music but I don't look to the the personae that that artists portray to dictate how I will live my life. I'm not going to start selling coke by the truckload and start pimping some hoes so I can stack cheese next to my beamer, benz, or bentley. Parents need to stop blaming the entertainment industry for their children's behavior and instead take it upon themselves to be more involved in their children's lives, then maybe your daughters won't want to go out wearing less fabric than it takes to make a ShamWow and your sons won't go cruising in your SUV with the music playing at 70 decibels and their pants hanging around their knees.

Rich or poor, attending college is about acquiring new knowledge, which opens up an exciting new world of ideas. To attend college, however, is a matter of choice. Like her grandmother, I chose to return to college late in life and received my first BA at 60. Although that was my choice and the choice of some others, however, Miley has to make her own career decisions.
