Republic of Azerbaijan is a country in the Caucasus region of Eurasia. Located at the crossroads of Western Asia and Eastern Europe,  it is bounded by the Caspian Sea to the east, Russia to the  north, Georgia to the northwest, Armenia to the west, and Iran to the south. Its territory covers south-west part of the Greater Caucasus and a big part of the Lesser Caucasus. The capital and the largest city of Azerbaijan is Baku. Located on the southern shore of the Absheron Peninsula, the city has long been considered as the biggest port of the Caspian Sea and unchangeable flag officer of the industry – such as oil, machine building, chemical, constructional.

Baku is one of the historic places where civilization can be traced back to early 6th AD. Being an old town, there are many people who arrive here in search of some ancient flavor that you can only find in the ancient cities of the world. Sightseeing in Baku takes you to the places and sites where you will get several monuments, temples, palaces and museums reflecting the aura of the bygone era. One of the chief attractions in Baku is the huge and imposing structure of Inner City. This section is picturesque, with its maze of narrow alleys and ancient buildings: the cobbled streets past the Palace of the Shirvanshahs, two caravansaries (ancient inns), the baths and the Juma Mosque, the Maiden Tower, upon which one can enjoy the vast and magical wide angle view of Caspian Sea.

Beside the numerous attractions, Baku has a colorful nightlife with a number of restaurants, bars, pubs and discos. These places differ for their atmosphere, location, cuisine and target mass. The clubs involve both Eastern and Western styles. In eastern style restaurants guests can indulge themselves for special treats of the Azerbaijani national cuisine, listen to local music, smoke water pipe and enjoy the peaceful and comfortable Baku nightlife. The western style restaurants are mostly for the young and energetic crowd. They provide high quality service, exciting parties, world’s famous djs’ music and enough arrangement for security.

In 2007 Culture Ministers of the member-states of the Organization of the Islamic Conference declared Baku to be the capital of Islamic Culture for 2009. The Walled City of Baku along with the Shirvanshah's Palace and Maiden Tower were inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000.

The capital of Azerbaijan is by right called the gates from Europe to Asia. Today, there are representative offices and embassies of quite a large number of foreign countries and on the street one can hear Turkish, English, French, German and Persian speeches, and in numerous restaurants and bars, the lack in lexicon in conversation with Chinese, Indians, Italians, and Scandinavians is filled with convincing gestures and smiles by the local people.
