Badgeware is our family of wearable, programmable badges built around the Raspberry Pi RP2350. They're small computers you can wear, clip to a lanyard or leave on your desk, and program in MicroPython over USB.
Choosing a badge
- Tufty has a 2.8" full-colour IPS screen, suited to games, animation and other projects with changing graphics.
- Badger uses a 2.7" e-paper display that holds its image without continuous power, making it useful for name badges, dashboards and other projects that mainly display information.
- Blinky has a bright white LED matrix instead of a screen, for scrolling text, pixel art and simple notifications.
All three use a dual-core RP2350 running at 200MHz, with 16MB of flash, 8MB of PSRAM, 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5 and a 1000mAh battery charged over USB-C. They also have five front buttons and a Qw/ST connector for adding compatible sensors and breakouts without soldering. They share the same Badgeware MicroPython API, so code can be adapted between the different badges.
Making it yours
Each badge comes with some apps ready to try, and you can write your own in MicroPython. Double-tap reset and it appears as a USB drive; copy a Python file across, eject it and the badge runs your code. The Badgeware API provides functions for drawing graphics, text and shapes, handling sprites and reading the buttons, with guides to help you build your own applications.
You can also add a few extras. The add-ons include a polycarbonate case, desk stand and flat and right-angle USB-C cables. Qw/ST accessories such as the Multi-Sensor Stick add environmental, light and motion sensors, while the Qw/ST Pad adds game controls for turning Tufty into a handheld console.
