September is Suicide Prevention Month, a time to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and remind our community that support is available and that no one should have to struggle alone.
Mayor Dominick Pangallo has proclaimed September, 2026 as Suicide Prevention Month in Salem, recognizing the importance of suicide prevention and accessible mental health resources throughout our community.
The City of Salem is especially grateful for the work of The NAN Project, which has spent more than a decade working to prevent youth suicide through peer-to-peer education, stories of lived experience, advocacy, and prevention efforts. We also recognize the many local mental health providers and community partners who support Salem residents every day.
While September brings important attention to suicide prevention, this work matters all year long. We encourage members of our community to reach out for support when they need it and to check in on the people around them.
