Salem kicks off its historic 400th anniversary celebration with a free community launch party on Saturday, January 10, from 2-5 PM at Salem High School, 77 Willson Street, Salem. The event brings together indoor and outdoor winter activities, inviting residents of all ages to explore area nonprofits inside while enjoying fire pits and ice mosaics outside.
The Salem 400+ Launch Party marks the beginning of a year-long celebration leading up to Salem's 400th anniversary in 2026. The event is designed to maximize comfort and enjoyment for all attendees, with indoor space for browsing nonprofit vendors, bidding on silent auction items, and sampling student-prepared appetizers, while outdoor fire pits and stunning ice sculptures provide a festive winter atmosphere.
"We've created an event where everyone can participate comfortably, whether you want to stay warm inside exploring local organizations or stay outside to enjoy the winter beauty of fire pits and ice art." said Salem Mayor Dominick Pangallo. “I’m grateful to the several dozen organizations from across our community who will be joining together to kick off this special celebration with us, and to the members of City of Salem staff and many volunteers who have worked hard to pull together this exciting moment. I encourage everyone in the Salem community to attend!”
Indoor Attractions: Nonprofits, Appetizers, Silent Auction and more!
Inside Salem High School, attendees will find a bustling atmosphere featuring more than 60 local nonprofit organizations ready to connect with community members. These groups will showcase volunteer opportunities, collaborative projects, and ways residents can support Salem's future. The indoor venue ensures comfortable browsing and meaningful conversations regardless of the weather.
Salem High School's CTE Culinary Arts students will prepare and serve passed appetizers inspired by the city's 400-year culinary journey. These complimentary appetizers will circulate throughout the indoor space, allowing attendees to sample the students' talents while exploring the nonprofit fair.
The silent auction, also located indoors, features local treasures and unique experiences donated by community partners. Attendees can browse and bid on items in a comfortable setting, with all proceeds supporting Salem 400+ programming throughout the year.
The public will also get a chance to find out the name of the Salem 400+ cat mascot!
Outdoor Winter Wonderland: Fire Pits and Ice Mosaics
For those who want to embrace the winter season, the outdoor area features crackling fire pits where attendees can gather with complimentary hot cocoa and s'mores. The outdoor space also showcases stunning ice mosaics making their Salem debut, providing a picturesque backdrop for photos and winter enjoyment.
Families will find supervised kids' activities that keep young attendees engaged and entertained both indoors and outdoors, allowing parents to explore the nonprofit fair and connect with neighbors.
