Park, Recreation & Community Service Upcoming Youth Fall Programming

Mayor Dominick Pangallo and the City of Salem Park, Recreation and Community Service department are pleased to highlight some upcoming youth fall programs. There is a mix of sports, crafts, music, and much more - a little something for everyone! To learn about and register for these programs and more visit salemma.myrec.com. 

Basketball Skills and Drills!

  • New to basketball? This is your child's opportunity to learn the basics. Participants will learn how to score, bounce pass, chest pass, dribble and play defense all while putting their new skills to the test in interactive basketball mini games at the end of each class. 

    Mini Hoopers
    Ages: 6-8
    Dates: Sundays, 9/14- 10/19
    Times: 10-11:00am
    Cost: $65
    Location: McGlew Park Basketball Courts (201 1/2 North St.)

    Rising Hoopers 
    Ages: 9-12
    Dates: Sundays, 9/14- 10/19
    Time: 11:00am- 12:00pm 
    Cost: $65

    In the case of an unexpected cancellation, 10/26 and 11/2 will serve as make up classes if needed.

First Down Flag Football!

This program is designed for beginners who are eager to learn the fundamentals of flag football in a fun and supportive environment. Participants will be introduced to basic skills such as passing, catching, and flag pulling as well as the rules and strategies of the game.

Participants should wear sneakers and bring a water bottle.

  • Date: Sundays, 9/14- 10/19
  • Time: 12:00-1:00pm

  • Cost: $90 for 6 week session

Halloween Crafts with Lane!

Join one of our arts and crafts specialists and playground instructor Lane Livermore for some fun Halloween themed crafts!

Participants will create Jack O'Lantern Collages, Monster Masks, and Trick or Treating Bags.

  • Date: Tuesday, October 28th
  • Time: 4:30-6:00pm
  • Location: Salem Community Life Center (401 Bridge St.)
  • Cost: $20

Piano Keyboard Lessons!

  • This five week program is designed for students who already have some basic piano skills.  Students will learn how to create chords and use basic rhythms to improvise and create their own songs.  The instructor, James Eric Rogers has over 45 years of piano experience and is a local musician, as well as an art and science teacher. There will be individual one-on-one instruction in each class so you can learn new skills.  If you are in the first session, you can continue your skills in the second session.
    Keyboards will be provided for the use in class. Class is limited to 7 students.

    Ages: 7-12
    Dates: Tuesdays,
    Fall Session: September 16th - October 7th
    Time: 4:00-5:30pm
    Place: Salem Community Life Center
    Cost: $90.00 for the 4 week session

Motors and Circuits!

  • In this 4 week class, we will build and test several types of motors and circuits.  Using battery packs we will build a robot that makes art, a motorized car or boat and a circuit board with lights.  You will take home everything that you make!  We are thrilled to have James Eric Rogers teaching this class.

    Ages: 6-12
    Date: Mondays
    Fall Session:  September 15th - October 6th
    Time: 4:00-5:30pm
    Location: Salem Community Life Center, 401 Bridge St.
    Price: $85.00 for the 4 week session, all supplies included
