On March 17, 2025, the City Seal Task Force, appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council, began to engage in research and community conversations to evaluate Salem's City Seal and recommend whether—and if so how—it should be modified. The final decision will ultimately be made by the City Council.
Between now and September 2026, we’ll be taking part in a shared learning process, including presentations from local historians, cultural workers, and other experts. These presentations will be made available online, with accessible summaries to ensure everyone can engage with the information.
At regular intervals, we will host public listening sessions to hear directly from community members. Our first session will be on July 14, 2025 at 7pm via Zoom — all are welcome to attend and share their perspectives (to receive notifications about the agenda, please sign up at: https://www.salemma.gov/List.aspx). This will be a dedicated space for public input, and Task Force members will be there to listen and learn from you.
