Taxes Included in This Salary Calculator

  • Municipal Tax (Kommuneskatt): A local tax that forms part of Norway's ordinary income tax. For most taxpayers, the municipal share is 11.35%. Our calculator assumes you are a Norwegian tax resident and applies the ordinary tax rules, rather than the PAYE scheme for foreign workers.
  • County Tax (Fylkesskatt): A regional tax that also forms part of the ordinary income tax and helps fund services provided at county level. For most taxpayers, the county share is 2.40%.
  • Joint Tax (Fellesskatt): A national tax paid to the state as part of the same ordinary income tax system. For most taxpayers, the joint tax share is 8.25%, bringing municipal, county and joint tax together to 22% of ordinary income.
  • Bracket Tax (Trinnskatt): A progressive tax on personal income. It applies only above 226,100 kr, after which rates increase across five brackets from 1.7% to 17.8%. This is one of the main reasons higher salaries face higher marginal tax rates in Norway.
  • Social Security Contributions (Trygdeavgift): A flat-rate contribution levied on gross salary to fund Norway's National Insurance Scheme, including pensions, sickness benefits, and other social security support. Our tax calculator includes the standard contribution rate of 7.6% for employees aged 17 to 69.
