  • They really do need a road diet, and part of the way to get there is for a fire truck diet as well, which might need some regulations to be changed, like NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) codes and regulations

Not Just Bikes did a video on this too, titled “How American Fire Departments are Getting People Killed”

Currently they need custom chassis, over-spec’d horsepower, valves, do-everything mission kind of truck, whereas in Europe or Japan or Hong Kong, you’ll see standardized, compact, cheaper, safer commercial chassis that still carry the same equipment and equally tall ladders for the job

Some cities, fire departments can also veto street redesigns and developments, because they need to fit their oversized truck in the streets, so to get there, we need to get fire departments on board and gradually replace their fleet as they retire older trucks, as it might be cost prohibitive to do it all at once

  • Managed land proxy “plus" sounds like a nightmare, it would basically reward deforestation from what I could understand, cmiiw

Shortly after Cullenward and Searchinger resigned this summer, the GHG Protocol announced that it would be aligning its carbon emissions accounting with [ISO] […] ISO has its own proprietary forest carbon accounting standard that SourceMaterial and Bloomberg report closely mirrors the managed land proxy approach. In combining their methods, the jointly formed committees that help make those decisions could be anonymous, per ISO policy and against GHGP Protocol, which stipulates that membership lists be made publicly available.

    I wonder why

Cullenward has reasoned that this could offer cover for corporate representatives to dominate talks more openly than they have been, given the GHG Protocol’s governance rules.

  • I chose the prettiest horse

I’m kidding, at first there were some races where there was only one or two high attribute racer, so I bet big on them, and the payout was huge as the odds were high

As things progressed, I could just manipulate the market with schemes and distort the market with bet placement. ie, there were 3 favourite racers with odds of 2/1. I’d poison the oats of one, bet 1000 on a 4th horse so the odds of the other racers would rise higher, and then I could bet on the remaining 2 favourites and still come out with net winnings after all bets

I don’t think there was a lot to do with money besides those big public works that I missed. I just got entertained by the coloured triangles lol

  • I think abdominal thrusts AKA Heimlich maneuver is no longer recommended as a first aid for choking, but let me double check

edit: I was mistaken, you should alternate back blows with abdominal thrusts. Detailed info below:

    From React First UK

    Adult choking flowchart

    and Resuscitation Council UK

If a person is suddenly unable to speak or cough, particularly if eating. Ask the person: “Are you choking?” Encourage the person to cough.

If the person is unable to cough or the cough becomes ineffective, give up to five back blows.
If back blows are ineffective, give up to five abdominal thrusts.
If choking has not been relieved after five abdominal thrusts, call 999 and continue alternating five back blows with five abdominal thrusts until choking is relieved, or the person becomes unresponsive.

    • Do NOT use blind finger sweeps to try and remove a foreign body from the mouth or airway.
    • If the person becomes unresponsive, start CPR and ensure [local emergency number] has been called.
    • Any person successfully treated for choking with abdominal thrusts or chest compressions should be evaluated by a healthcare practitioner since complications and injuries may occur.
