  • Star Wars has a data transmission problem in that software isn’t easily distributed across the galaxy.

Its much more likely Anakin found the programming or just a part with the “OS” installed and put it into a bunch of spare protocol droid parts. Maybe it took some tinkering but I don’t think he did a bunch of low level stuff as he’s a slave without real education, and I don’t believe anything of that level of skill comes up again.

Also noted, I don’t think the droids in Star Wars are 1 for 1 “operating systems” as we know them as they (can) have advanced personalities in a way that our software certainly doesn’t do.

  • So, no, you don’t “have” to.

A bunch of couches have staples or nails on the bottom rim which will scratch up or tear your carpeting, or damage the lower couch material by rubbing against the ground. Even if you’re not moving the couch, sitting and getting up will still create movement enough.

If you don’t like the couch feet that came with it, you could always attach shorter or stubbier feet so it both won’t hurt your flooring and you could create a very narrow gap that wouldn’t have the problems you described.

  • So for a game I published, there are male/female characters with what I called undermeshes, which is basically underwear that’s painted onto the skin texture. By design, there is no “nudity”, as the underwear is the most exposed you can get.

At the time, there were two torso ‘top’ textures, both created from a base design. One was a sports bra looking thing for women, and just a bare (notably not hairy) chest for men.

Things were getting crunchy and I had a few NPCs that I was trying to dress differently for a town to make them distinctive. There was an unused semi-low-cut dress asset so I put that on a single NPC, but it looked funky with the sports bra.

So I assigned the male torso top texture to the lady so the bra wasn’t showing, made sure nothing scandalous was visible, and moved on.

    Game gets released.

Weeks later, I’m troubleshooting a quest dialogue bug, and recalled this particular NPC has different lines (and animations!) if you’re a specific sex/race.

I swap races and do the whole quest again, only to (re)discover that the reason the dress was unused was because it wasn’t 100% properly set up. So when the NPC moved about with the different animations, the dress didn’t move with her, making her temporarily very topless and with the bare male texture, showing a lot more than she was supposed to be able to.

In short, this is quite bad and could have resulted in a not-too-happy e-mail from Valve if someone else found it.

Fortunately (AFAIK) I’m the only one who caught it but it was a cold chill followed by an absolute panic hotfix.

  • So I was actually on Mastodon a long time ago in ~2016, where someone very programmer recommended it to me. I didn’t get it and so skipped out but I was aware of it.

Years later, before the API-pocalypse, I was getting frustrated with Reddit and then-Twitter and so bailed out on them. A friend had brought up trying to ditch Facebook and algorithms, and I recalled Mastodon and went to looking at it again, this time giving it a proper try.

Well I stuck around obviously and went to browse around at other Fedi-stuff and stumbled upon Lemmy/PieFed, joining it a short while later.
