Need to confirm

[edit]

Did anybody noticed some bug on the VisualEditor. Appears to be a regression of a commit related to the tool, and as far as I know it only affects mobile, but on more than one browser and wiki:

  • Open the edit button on any mainspace article, and use the Visual edit button. The next time one opens the editor again, there would be no way to use VE; if the default is VE, they would be greeted by an empty source editor that blanks the entire section. If on source editor, the option to VE is broken.
  • A similar thing happens in the content translation tool; the editor fails to load the srecond time it is accessed.

A temporary solution is to refresh the page, but this is inconvenient. Need to reach out first before going to Phabricator. ToadetteEdit (talk) 08:01, 12 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

I believe this is the same as (or related to) phab:T437828. The Editing team are looking into that. Thanks for reporting. Quiddity (WMF) (talk) 21:29, 14 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi. The bot that operates the daily-article-l mailing list needs a new maintainer before the end of this month. More details are available at Talk:daily-article-l. --MZMcBride (talk) 05:22, 17 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

How can I set skin-specific styles or interface texts, without affecting other skins?

[edit]

I have been working on my Maimai Wiki (a wiki intended to be a community-driven resource for Sega's Maimai series) on Miraheze, and I'm currently configuring interface visuals.

I've edited MediaWiki:Copyright-footer, but it affects all skins including Citizen which the wiki is also using. I want the content in MediaWiki:Copyright-footer to show fully on Vector 2022, but only show the license line on Citizen (hiding the additional Sega disclaimer).

How can I set skin-specific styles or footer content so they don't affect each other?

Here's an example of what I'm trying to achieve: https://ibb.co/Pvy3sSbC.

Thanks.

PS. And sorry if I've posted this in the wrong place.

Malware?

[edit]

My domain hosting (one.com) have disabled my site, using a scanner tool that claims these files (from 1.46.0) are malware:

includes/Html/Html.php -- includes/Session/Session.php -- vendor/wikimedia/parsoid/src/Wt2Html/DOM/Processors/Section.php

Nothing can convince them that they are not malware. What should one do? Clay Camel (talk) 08:52, 21 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

I'd start with asking them which "scanner tool" they use, and which exact "malware" that tool believes that it detected. AKlapper (WMF) (talk) 10:34, 21 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
You might want to verify that this really is a false positive first. For example, download 1.46.0 from a trusted source and compare its hash, or diff it, against the version you have installed. You can then tell your hosting provider that the files are identical at a byte level with the official distribution which might help. MarcGarver (talk) 13:13, 21 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I have tried asking them why their tool flags these three files as malware, but they won't say which tool they use or provide a detailed explanation. I have replaced the files with brand-new files from version 1.46.0, but they don't believe me... I suppose I have to find another domain host and move my wiki. English is the only option when the public looks at my page !

[edit]

I am guiding French speaking visitors of my community to my supposedly bilingual global meta-wiki user page, but there is no language choice for a French speaking visitor. I use Desktop French Linux Mint, French Firefox, but all I get is : Login to change the language This is missing something, like logic. Please help. Ineuw (talk) 00:25, 27 September 2026 (UTC) P.S: Deleted all cookies, before testing this. Ineuw (talk) 00:37, 27 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi, as you wrote "Log in to select a different language for menus", is something unclear with that message? Is this a feature request? Also note that going to https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Ineuw?uselang=fr is a potential workaround. AKlapper (WMF) (talk) 19:17, 27 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I may be missing with something you are trying to archive, but you can add {{languages}} for pages with multiple-lingual subpages when the page is not being managed by the translate extension. P858snake (talk) 19:38, 27 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
The visitor has no Wikipedia account. How can they change the language of their choice???
and where can I upload a screenshot ? Ineuw (talk) 21:26, 27 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
  • As AKlapper wrote, you can add a link with the uselang parameter on the top of the page. This works regardless of whether the user is logged in or not. (Maybe you could create a feature request to include an equivalent of this in the language selector. uselang makes displaying a page for logged-out readers far less efficient than without uselang, so site operators may not like the idea, but maybe they’re fine with it as long as the setting for logged-out readers is only for a single page view.)
  • On French-language wikis (where you don’t have a local user page) like French Wiktionary, the page should display in French by default. (I don’t see any language-dependent content on the latest version of the page, so I couldn’t test it though.)

Thanks for all the help from everyone. The French Wiktionary never had a home page. When created, it dawned on me and began the changes throughout. As for the language indicator, I emailed the English link beforehand to members of my French community, and then I noticed the issue. The current option is aimed at registered users, and this must be a design oversight. This doesn't serve anyone, and certainly not visitors, even with an account.
