Ken Furudate, D.M.D., Ph.D., is a clinician-scientist and data scientist whose work bridges clinical oncology, cancer genomics, and computational biology. He has 11 years of clinical experience as an oral and maxillofacial surgeon in Japan, including board certification, and brings a clinically grounded perspective to translational cancer research.
At The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Dr. Furudate works with large-scale multi-modal omics datasets, including bulk, single-cell, and spatial transcriptomics, to investigate cancer progression, metastasis, and therapeutic response. His research integrates statistical learning, machine learning, and computational biology to identify biomarkers, uncover disease mechanisms, and generate clinically actionable insights.
He completed the Institute for Data Science in Oncology (IDSO) Fellowship and currently serves as an IDSO Affiliate, contributing to collaborative data science initiatives across MD Anderson. His long-term research goal is to develop computational oncology approaches that improve biological understanding, enable risk stratification, and support more precise cancer care.
