Claire from Bon Appetit, the internet's favorite pastry chef, has recreated everything from Skittles to Hot Pockets. But her most recent 40-minute trial has stumped her more than usual – gourmet Sour Patch Kids.
The candy has a unique combination of chew and dryness that took Claire over 35 attempts to satisfactorily recreate. The shoot got to her so much that she had to temporarily switch places with fellow Bon Appetit chef Amiel Stanek, frying one of his steaks for him on his episode Every Way to Cook a Steak.
Claire made the batch for her local sour food fan, Food Director Carla Lalli Music's son Cosmo. In honor of his sweet and sour passion, Claire used his outline for her delectable child-shaped candies, making for an especially strange moment when his mom Carla tries one at the end.
"To have pleased the people who already love Sour Patch Kids is great," Claire says at the end of the video. "I never want to see them again."
