Jamie Taylor shared thisVersion 11 of OwaspHeaders.Core has a number of things I've wanted to ship for a long time. The two I care most about are configuring the middleware with a delegate and validating that configuration at startup; I'd rather an application fail fast at startup than fail at runtime. The release candidate is out now, five weeks ahead of the stable release on 10 November. If you try it, tell me what breaks. I'd especially like to hear what you think of the auto-installed agent skill, which you can opt out of, and the use of PublicApiAnalyzers. Thanks to Sander ten Brinke for the inspiration to include an agent skill in the new version.Jamie Taylor shared thisOwaspHeaders.Core 11.0.0-rc.1 is now on NuGet, five weeks before version 11 ships alongside .NET 11 on 10 November. Version 11 is a major release with breaking changes. The release candidate is there so teams can try it on a branch and report problems before the stable version lands. What changes: ✅ .NET 10 and .NET 11 only. .NET 8 and .NET 9 leave Microsoft's support on 10 November; teams that cannot move yet should stay on 10.x, which is supported until November 2028. ✅ Configuration moves to a delegate passed to UseSecureHeadersMiddleware, and it is validated at startup. A bad configuration now stops the application from starting, where it used to throw on the first live request. ✅ Report-only Content-Security-Policy is fixed, so browsers will start sending violation reports. Teams using report-only mode should make sure their report-uri endpoint is ready. The package also installs an agent skill into the consuming repository on build. It gives coding agents the version 11 API and tells them not to hand-write the headers the middleware owns. It is a page of markdown and a .gitignore: no code runs, git ignores it, and a single MSBuild property turns it off. The idea came from Sander ten Brinke, who also helped shape its design. Found a problem? Raise an issue on GitHub with "rc.1" in the title. Links in the first comment. #dotnet #aspnetcore #appsec #opensource

Jamie Taylor shared thisInspired by the responses in the comments for this post 👇, I’ve done a bunch of research and written a blog post (link in the comments below) about the current state of play. The summary is: stop hiring for specific tools, because the market turns on a dime right now and the tool you’ve standardised on might not be the one everyone uses in 6 months.

Jamie Taylor posted thisOver the last few weeks, I’ve heard many stories about software developers being rejected for roles simply because they use Claude. The reasoning is that their employer uses Codex and therefore Claude isn’t a suitable fit. This same logic applies to other model and harness combinations like Cursor and OpenAI. It’s worth remembering that you’re probably using the same (or very similar) underlying models. It’s like turning someone down for a driving job simply because they drive a Suzuki, but we drive a BMW here so it’s not a good fit.

Jamie Taylor posted this“Hi Jamie, I’ve got a brilliant app idea and was hoping you could build it for free. Thanks, bye!” This message is a daily occurrence for me and countless others in my industry. The short answer is no. The longer answer is no because I have bills just like you do. Please stop DMing people using mail merge tactics and asking them to do work for free. No matter how fancy the language, you’re still asking them to do expensive work for nothing. As Michael Jordan said, “stop it. Get some help.”

Jamie Taylor reacted on thisJamie Taylor reacted on thisTwo weeks ago, I had my last day at Microsoft. I started working on dev tools over eight years ago, fresh out of college, and it was a fun, trial-by-fire experience from day one. Being able to count on one hand how many breakpoints I'd set in school, joining the VS debugger team and then giving a talk about it at Microsoft Build barely three months in was equal parts terrifying and exhilarating. Since those first few months, I learned to love the VS debugger, helped extenders migrate to the new 64-bit VS, watched over the rapid birth of the Aspire dashboard and C# Dev Kit, discovered a knack for public speaking (I got to close out my Microsoft era with my first ever keynote—in Switzerland!), evangelism, and hosting VS Toolbox, and ultimately fell in love with solving the problems developers face every day. This chapter is ending sooner than I'd have chosen, so it’s a bit bittersweet. But working with so many smart, funny, reliable, kind people has been the most consistent highlight of these eight years, and I'm grateful for every chance I had to collaborate with, mentor, and learn from so many of you. Also, special shout out to those of you who watched and/or guest-starred on my VS Toolbox show over the past few years 😉. I'm looking for my next opportunity in product management or developer relations, whether it’s somewhere I can keep solving tough problems for developers, or where I can work with a brand new audience. If you know a team (Seattle-specific or otherwise) that might be a good fit, or just want to connect/reconnect, please reach out! #OpenToWork #ProductManagement #Hiring #Microsoft

During a period of unemployment, I volunteered at ARKH. I developed the website, which has had (at the time of writing) over 31,000 individual hits.
I developed several bespoke software solutions for ARKH, mostly related to logging into specific software tools, and acted as the sites IT administrator. I tackled the general IT issues that some of the other volunteers faced, along with some that the users of the charity faced, too.
