Max Fabiani

I was one of the most celebrated architects of Imperial Vienna, personal advisor to the heir to the throne Franz Ferdinand, and the designer, here in Gorizia, of the Trgovski Dom, one of the first multipurpose buildings in Europe; but perhaps you don't know that I was the architect who fired Adolf Hitler.

I was one of the most important architects working in Vienna, where I designed the multipurpose Urania building, the Portois & Fix Palace, the Artaria Palace, and Palmers House, between the 19th and 20th centuries. From private consultant to the heir to the throne, Franz Ferdinand, I became chief architect of the Austrian exhibitions.
I also dedicated myself with great passion to the reconstruction of Ljubljana after the 1895 earthquake, Bielsko—now in Poland—and Gorizia in 1921.
In fact, my brilliant Viennese career ended in 1921 because I felt "morally obliged to complete the work begun in Gorizia," where I designed the Trgovski Dom, one of the first multipurpose buildings in Europe. I was the architect who fired Adolf Hitler.
