  • Do you… not understand the point of a hypothetical question? Nobody cares if it’s possible.

Do you not understand this is not about being possible? I also didn’t know that I had to ask you how to answer the question. The question doesn’t make sense and I explained it enough. Nobody can live forever in an infinite game, not because its not possible, because it makes no sense.

  • Not sure if you’re doing it to troll people

    Oh now I’m a troll?

because you’re having issues with taking things too literally or some other reason

I brought up enough reasons why the question doesn’t make logical sense, not just if its possible or not. In fact, it seems like I’m the one who does not take it literally and answers the question in a different way as it was asked. Which is wrong? I explained why I can’t answer the question in any other way, because this is the only answer I can give, given the reasons. It does not have anything to do with imagining things or not, the question makes logically no sense.

It’s not like that I’m not allowed to discuss here and take the question as I want. No one have to respond to me if you do not want to discuss.

  • Enforcement is secondary, the first and most important step is making it illegal. And maybe providing an alternative they develop and control themselves, a custom China based Linux as a replacement for Windows. So the first step is making it a reason not to install Windows willing fully. And the enforcement goes as far as they can, nobody said that it can be enforced on everyone.

If anyone is caught talking or using Windows because they don’t use VPN and hide their browser identity, then the government could investigate a bit further. Nobody want to be caught in China. Windows has a builtin identification, the browser tells a lot, and Windows tries to connect to the internet for downloads and updates. All of that could be tracked. You would need to be offline in order not get caught, unless you know 100% exactly what you do, maybe then its safe.

I’m not a wizard, I don’t know the exact methods. This is just what I know as a normal citizen who does not really do all of this stuff. Imagine what they know.

  • That’s really cute. I personally won’t use it (don’t even use Fish), but wanted to give some tips. First, the code is intended to run each time a new terminal (more accurately a new instance of Fish is run) is opened up, right? If so, then I suggest to optimize a bit for performance, so opening a terminal stays snappy.

There are parts that do not change usually, so running and grabbing the content each time is a bit of waste. I’ll suggest creating a single cache file with all the content that stays the same. In example following lines

    awk -F'"' '/PRETTY_NAME/ {print $2}' /etc/os-release
    awk '/cpu cores/{c=1} c{ print $4; if (/cpu cores/) exit }' /proc/cpuinfo

need to run only once, if the cache file doesn’t exist already. At start of script check if the cache file exists, and read the file once only. The file could be in /tmp/ directory, so it gets deleted with reboot and should run once and always up to date. There is also a file cat /proc/loadavg, which you could use instead using uptime | awk. So instead you could just have a more simple sed or grep command. Instead:

    uptime | awk '{ print substr($(NF-2), 1, length($(NF-2)) - 1)"% Load" }'

    do

    grep -o '^[^ ]*' /proc/loadavg

Note my code examples are in Bash syntax, not sure if there are differences that matters here. I see you like awk a lot BTW.

Edit: Changed the line with uptime | awk from your code, as I copy pasted the wrong line by accident before.

  • Please read again. It is not possible to transfer consciousness into a simulation, without copying data. What does “transfer” mean if not copy? Also a simulation is an algorithm that describes how to simulate. In which case your copies genetic code, atoms and brain wouldn’t work without changing. Your body isn’t bits and bytes, it has to be converted into. And that happens while you are still there. So if anything of your mind and body is “transferred” to the simulation, it has to be copied and changed in order to integrate it.

To explain what that means with an analogy: Emulators and game ROMs are copies of the exact hardware. Roms would represent your bodies atoms genetic code. Then there is the environment side, the Emulators. Think of the entire simulation as the emulator, which has custom code to play back the games (you and the environment).

Also are you aware of Quantum Physics? It is impossible to measure everything with 100% accuracy and certainty. This is not a skill issue of us, this is how the universe works. So it is in fact physically impossible to create a 100% digital code of you. And even if it was, it wouldn’t be you.

Assuming the Wikipedia article is correct. That is not proof that MY money goes there. She would have payed it without me buying the game anyway. I don’t care about her political stance and acts. It’s also a topic that does not affect me, so I do not have any feelings. Every company does something bad, should we never buy games again, because a producer did something stupid or the parent company getting money does something stupid? She is not involved in the games I buy and play, then I buy and play those games. I don’t care about her opinion.

I don’t know how to make that more clear.

and Warner Bros would hardly notice your support.

Ah yes, selective facts. Why does Warner Bros doesn’t notice my support, but the one person you are against it does? In fact, royalties are just a little sum, compared to the entire costs.

I don’t care about her political views, as long as it does not affect the media I’m watching or playing. Also buying a game is supporting more than a single person getting royalties, it’s also about the publisher and developers of the game, which has way more impact. It is her decision and not mine to be against a group of people.

YOU state that the royalties from my money are directly used to silence or attack those group of people. Which is a claim you can’t backup, but use an argument to support your own view and try people to stop paying her money. I will not pay anything if my money is really used for that, but that is something have to be proven first.

I do not support anti-trans politics, in fact I don’t care. She is not the only person in the world, so I’m not pirating a videogame that a publisher and team of developer has spent millions and ton of time into a project, where she has no influence on the game. You can choose to ignore everything else and focus on this single person only.

An analogy to a different topic, but illustrating the issue I have with your logic: With your logic, I have to stop using Linux, because Microsoft has WSL integrated into Windows. Plus Microsoft is using Linux too. Anyone supporting Linux supports Microsoft too.

  • That’s not what is being asked. OP put right in the post “afterlife” as in.

That is being asked. I am talking that there is no afterlife if you copy yourself. The “afterlife” is meant to be “overcome the death” by cheating through copies. It’s not expressed with those words, but the logical application is a copy if we talk about this subject.

Nobody is copying you into a PC.

But that is the topic. It is about making an exact copy of yourself in a videogame (infinite game). I quote the article:

A game consists of players, an interface, an environment, and gameplay. All of these elements are readily accessible in a computer simulation such that an entity capable of simulating configurations of time/space/matter/energy would also be capable of instantiating a simulation which conscious energy may exist within.

Rather than limit possibilities to a single perspective, I dream of infinite games created and refined by their players in innumerable variants. The possibilities for play include all of the most hoped-for afterlives and offer other novel experiences to explore.
