A "Deal or No Deal" style game for the Nintendo 64, built using libdragon with the preview branch.
- Classic Deal or No Deal gameplay.
- Select your box and open the others round by round.
- Receive offers from the Banker based on the remaining values.
- Decide: Deal or No Deal?
This project needs the mips64-elf toolchain plus libdragon's preview branch
installed into a common prefix ($N64_INST).
Option A — the libdragon CLI (Docker): follow
the official installation guide,
then build with libdragon make instead of make.
Option B — a native install. Grab the prebuilt toolchain from the official image and build libdragon on top of it:
# 1. Extract the mips64-elf toolchain into a prefix of your choice
export N64_INST="$HOME/.local/n64_inst"
mkdir -p "$N64_INST"
docker run --rm -v "$N64_INST:/out" ghcr.io/dragonminded/libdragon:latest \
bash -c 'cp -a /n64_toolchain/. /out/'
# 2. Build and install libdragon (preview) into the same prefix
git clone --depth 1 -b preview https://github.com/DragonMinded/libdragon.git
cd libdragon && ./build.shmakeThat's it — no environment setup required. The Makefile discovers the toolchain
automatically, checking $N64_INST first and then the usual prefixes
(~/.local/n64_inst, ~/n64_inst, /opt/libdragon, /opt/n64_inst,
/usr/local/n64_inst, /n64_toolchain). If yours lives somewhere else, either
export N64_INST or pass it inline:
make N64_INST=/path/to/n64_instThe build converts everything in assets/ into the ROM filesystem
(PNGs to .sprite via mksprite, the TTF to font.font64 via mkfont),
packs it into a DFS image, and links the region-free ROM no-deal.z64.
make clean removes all generated output.
After building, you will have a ROM file no-deal.z64 in the project's root directory.
- Emulator: Load the ROM file into your preferred N64 emulator (e.g., Ares, Mupen64Plus, Simple64).
- Flashcart: Copy the ROM file to the SD card of your N64 flashcart (e.g., EverDrive64, 64drive) and load it on your console.
Enjoy the game!
