RSE-Based Periodic RVE Generator for Heterogeneous Materials

Overview

This repository presents a MATLAB-based implementation of the Random Sequential Expansion (RSE) algorithm for generating statistically random periodic Representative Volume Elements (RVEs) of heterogeneous materials.

The developed framework enables the generation of microstructures with prescribed inclusion volume fractions while ensuring non-overlapping particle placement and periodicity of the representative domain.

Methodology

The microstructures are generated using the Random Sequential Expansion (RSE) algorithm.

Starting from an initial inclusion, subsequent inclusions are placed by randomly selecting their relative distance and angular position while preventing overlap with previously generated inclusions.

To ensure periodicity, whenever an inclusion intersects a domain boundary, its corresponding image inclusion is simultaneously created on the opposite boundary.

The process continues until the target inclusion volume fraction is achieved.
