…e a scratch base another account can delete children in lets it rename the scanned tree aside and leave its own at the same name after the ClamAV gate, and restore the cross-device narrowing that never reached master

How do review limits work?CodeRabbit enforces per-developer PR review limits for each organization. Most developers receive the normal plan review availability. For paid Pro and Pro+ PR reviews, CodeRabbit uses adaptive limits for sustained high-volume activity. When a developer's recent PR review activity reaches the 95th percentile or higher among CodeRabbit users, additional reviews become available more gradually as earlier reviews age out of the rolling window. 📝 WalkthroughWalkthroughTrivy cache promotion now validates staged directory device/inode identity before promotion. It rejects substituted or unavailable staging paths, preserves the live cache, and limits copy fallback to cross-device rename errors. ChangesTrivy promotion hardening
Estimated code review effort: 3 (Moderate) | ~20 minutes Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to The PR adds identity checks before promotion and narrows fallback retries, but the current promotion path can still follow a substituted live-cache link, potentially redirecting replacement and leaving the cache dangling during cleanup. This concrete merge-readiness risk requires a fix or explicit acceptance; the changelog wording and one regression assertion also need follow-up. Sequence Diagram(s)sequenceDiagram

…here the source is still trusted by pathname, since stat through a symlink reported the moved-aside original and passed, and the cleanup before the rename and the whole cross-device copy sat outside the one check

…scratch, since an account that renames the validated tree aside during the copy and back before the check restores the inode and passes a comparison the token defeats
… identity reads cannot see a swap reverted between them nor one made part-way through, and the answer to what the cache receives should be the bytes something looked at rather than the name they arrived under
…since the marker check took promote_into to a cognitive complexity of 18 against the threshold of 15

_refuse_if_swapped()callsis_reparse_point(staged)before attempting to stat for identity. On Windows,is_reparse_point()returnsTrueon anyOSError, so a missing/unstatable directory will be reported as “is a link” instead of “could not be stat’d …”. Consider doing a singlelstat()first, using it for both the reparse-point check and the(st_dev, st_ino)comparison, so stat failures get the correct message and you avoid double-stat races.

Fixes #25. Cut from master at b67e8d2 and merges into master.
What changed
The staged Trivy databases are promoted by identity rather than by pathname.
dir_identityrecords the staged tree'sst_devandst_inowhentarget_trivy_dbcreates it,promote_intotakes astaged_identityargument and re-reads that pair immediately before the tree leaves the scratch, and a mismatch raisesScratchSwappedError, which the caller reports as a refusal with the live cache untouched. An identity that cannot be read is a mismatch, not a pass: treating the failure as a pass would restore pathname trust in exactly the case where something is already wrong.Portable, with no platform branch.
st_inocarries the NTFS file index on Windows, which is the valueGetFileInformationByHandlereports, so the Windows-only handle API the issue sketches buys nothing here.As the issue asks, this is documented as narrowing the window rather than closing it: an account able to rename the scratch aside can still do so between the comparison and the rename. Closing it entirely needs a handle held open across the whole interval, which is Windows-only, or refusing any base other accounts can write to, which discards the free-space flexibility the scratch base selection exists to provide.
report_scratch_privacytherefore keeps warning on a shared base rather than refusing: that trade is worth a deliberate decision rather than arriving as a side effect of this fix.The extra fix in this PR, and why it is here
promote_intoon master falls back toshutil.copytreeon anyOSErrorfrom the first rename, so a permission or missing-path failure is retried as a copy that half-writes the.incomingtree and reports its own error in place of the real cause. PR #40's review round fixed this in commit d2a1acc, narrowing the fallback toerrno.EXDEVand Windows error 17, but that commit was never pushed:git branch --contains d2a1acclists only the local branch. The operator merged the remote tip, so neither the fix nor its regression test reached master. It is restored here rather than in its own PR because it lives inside
promote_into, which this PR also modifies, and a second PR from master would collide in that function.Tests
Four added. A staged tree renamed aside and replaced at the same name is refused and the live cache still reads its old content; a staged tree that cannot be stat'd is refused; an unswapped tree still promotes, so the check does not refuse the case it guards; and a rename failing with
