how are new colors assigned if not passed in as part of the original patches?

providing the standard collection arguments, facecolor,
edgecolor, linewidths, norm or cmap.
Also, all hatches will be set to the first patch's hatch,
regardless of the hatch set in the original patches.

**kwargs
All other parameters are forwarded to `.Collection`.
