Axmol Contributor Compensation Policy
Axmol Engine is an open-source project developed and maintained by its core team and community contributors.
To support the long-term development of the project, Simdsoft Limited may provide financial compensation to selected contributors and active members of the Axmol Core Team.
Participation in Axmol is voluntary.
Contributions do not automatically create a right to payment.
In particular:
- A merged pull request does not automatically receive compensation.
- Compensation is not calculated by PR count, commit count, issue count, or any fixed point system.
- Accepted issues, reviews, documentation updates, or other contributions do not automatically create an entitlement to compensation.
- Specific paid tasks or bounties exist only when the scope and compensation have been explicitly agreed in advance.
Exceptional community contributions may receive one-time compensation at Simdsoft's discretion.
The Axmol Core Team consists of contributors who have demonstrated sustained and meaningful participation in Axmol and have been invited by Simdsoft Limited to take on an ongoing role in the project's development and maintenance.
Long-term community contributors may be considered for Core Team membership based on factors such as:
- Sustained and meaningful contributions
- Technical expertise and project knowledge
- Reliability and quality of work
- Willingness to take long-term maintenance responsibility
- Code review and technical support
- Current project needs
- Available project resources
Core Team membership is by invitation and is not automatically granted based on contribution count, pull requests, or length of participation.
Core Team membership is based on continued participation and is not permanent.
Meaningful participation may include:
- Code development and maintenance
- Pull request review
- Issue investigation
- Documentation and tooling
- Release work
- Platform or subsystem maintenance
- Technical community support
- Other meaningful contributions to Axmol
Core Team membership may be reviewed periodically.
Members who remain inactive for an extended period, or who no longer meaningfully participate in the project, may lose active Core Team status.
Former Core Team members may be invited to rejoin if they resume sustained participation and the project has an ongoing need for their involvement.
Historical contributions may continue to be recognized even after active Core Team membership ends.
Ongoing contributor compensation is generally reserved for active Axmol Core Team members.
Compensation is normally reviewed on a quarterly basis and may take into account:
- Contribution level
- Technical and maintenance responsibility
- Project impact
- Consistency of participation
- Current project needs
- Available project resources
Core Team membership does not guarantee a fixed compensation amount or permanent compensation.
Simdsoft may adjust, suspend, or discontinue compensation when contribution levels, project needs, available resources, or other circumstances change.
Axmol may occasionally offer compensation for a specific task, issue, investigation, or development objective.
A task is considered a paid task or bounty only when its scope and compensation have been explicitly agreed in advance.
Unless such an agreement exists, contributors should not assume that an issue or pull request carries guaranteed compensation.
Simdsoft may also provide one-time rewards for exceptional contributions that materially benefit Axmol.
Axmol's development and contributor support may be funded through multiple sources, including:
- Corporate sponsorship
- OpenCollective
- GitHub Sponsors
- Other project funding channels
Project funding may support activities including:
- Core development and maintenance
- Contributor compensation
- Development and testing infrastructure
- Documentation and tooling
- Release engineering
- Community operations
- Other activities supporting the long-term sustainability of Axmol
The amount available for contributor compensation may vary and is not defined as a fixed percentage of project funding.
Simdsoft Limited administers the contributor compensation program and determines the appropriate payment method and funding channel for each payment.
Payments may be made directly by Simdsoft or through OpenCollective, Wise, bank transfer, or other supported payment channels.
OpenCollective is an available funding and payment channel, not a mandatory compensation platform.
Contributors receiving compensation may be required to provide information reasonably necessary for accounting, tax, compliance, and payment purposes.
Compensation does not change the open-source nature of Axmol.
Core Team membership or compensation does not by itself create:
- Employment with Simdsoft Limited
- A contractor relationship
- Ownership of Axmol
- Governance rights
- Special control over the project
Any formal employment or service relationship, where applicable, will be established separately in writing.
Sponsors likewise do not obtain ownership or governance rights solely through financial support.
This policy replaces the previous Axmol Contribution Reward Guide for new compensation decisions.
Under the current framework:
- Individual pull requests no longer automatically receive rewards.
- Ongoing compensation is primarily associated with active Core Team participation.
- Core Team members are invited based on sustained contribution and project needs.
- Core Team status and compensation are reviewed over time.
- Specific paid tasks or bounties must be explicitly agreed in advance.
- Simdsoft determines compensation amounts and payment channels.
- OpenCollective and GitHub Sponsors may continue to operate as independent community funding channels.
The previous guide may remain available for historical reference but should no longer be used for new compensation decisions.
This policy may be updated as Axmol's development needs, funding structure, community, or administrative requirements evolve.
